I love the idea of turning my back on this society and walking away. I am seventy now and I think its a bit late for me to buy land and build a cabin. There are different degrees of walking away though. I recently moved from a big city in West Yorkshire to a small village at the back of beyond in East Yorkshire. I love it here I have a small garden and I am growing some of my own food and I live quite a simple life. I wish that I’d had the knowledge and courage to walk away forty years ago. I was too busy and stressed running on the hamster wheel keeping my head above water to realise that there might be another way. Anyone that is able to do it now I say don’t hesitate just go for it and I wish them all the luck in the world.

Always amazed at people who would insist I buy a motorized skiff and stop taking so long to get from one place to another. When I pointed out that I paddled for free and having a skiff and motor and gas and maintenance I would have to have a job and live in town and be a wage slave like them. live in a less remote place, only 200 miles from a town of significance. We do have electricity, but if one wants a home and such you still have to clear your own land, build your own house, etc. We have one local store and a couple fuel stations, and two liquor stores owned by the same person.
Folks are living off grid all over the States. If they can’t build their own homes, they buy tiny homes. There are off grid communities, or you can buy land. There are also tiny home builders who you can buy a tiny home from. Many are on wheels that can be towed. I’ve been seriously thinking of buying a tiny home. With the direction our countries are going, I believe this will be very common soon… Off grid = freedom + stress free living.

The problem in England is that it’s almost impossible to ‘legally’ live in a tiny home on a permanent site. Just crazy. You can in Scotland (Wales possibly, not sure on that). @@AnnaAdventuring Yes, I’ve been thinking about tiny homes too - online researching them for quite a while. In the states there are quite a few sites specifically for tinys. In the U.K. none to my knowledge. Also they have to be narrow enough for the roads, (classed as mobile even if you wanted to permanently site them), and our roads are of course much narrower than US. I think though they could be sited in your own land and wouldn’t require planning permission. I’ve just got to buy the land first, then find the money for the Tiny. I dream on!!! 😊

It really does depend on his back story. If he was living full-time in a logger's cabin and had permission to be there for logging purposes, then he broke the rules. So they had every right to get him off, unfortunately. If, however, he just built it and slowly stayed longer and longer, he would have been fine.

Hello - do you happen to have an email address for Mr. Woodlander please, as I would like to speak to him.
I still hold hope enough people will wake up where were not forced to choose between digital ID and vaccines or living in the wilderness chopping wood to survive. I’m game for a combo of the two (not digital ID or vaccines or digital currency) but some of us have close family members who live abroad. I don’t want to never be able to see my sister again who lives in another country. I’m game for the general life style of off grid but not willing to give up fighting to be free and travel whenever I can! Nor will I comply to their demands. I hope the 15 minute cities wake up enough people to cause havoc - we can win in numbers. We just need more to add to the numbers. It’s reassuring that people are waking up by the day. 3 years ago I didn’t know ANYONE else awake. These days it’s not unusual to meet awake folk. What is discussed here is a genuine risk. I respect that but I stay strong in the faith we will win. Not them!!! F that! F them! Wake up! Stand up!
Can't wait to see you visit Simon's woodland 🙏🙌

Wow, so exciting to hear that things like this are actually taking place. This man was well ahead of the game.
Great video, followed Woodlander for a while now and totally admire what he has done for himself and his family, and now helping others moving forward. Thankyou both so much.
The best video yet by far. It's not a new concept but the fact that Simon is organising and coordinatig such a concept to make it possible and affordable now for people has come at the right time. It is the perfect solution that is still doable at this current time and is right in saying he needs to act as soon as possible before Schwab implements some rule or policy to nip it in the bud. Def sounds like the best alternative so far on how to deal with the WEF's encroachment on people freedoms in the cities and small towns on how to opt out of mainstream living whilst it is still possible. No one knows if the WEF may intervene down the track against such independent communities People just need to get on board asap and contribute to the purchase of such tracts of land whilst still available and possible. He is like a breath of fresh air with a plan that offers hope for many people who would not normally be able to afford to buy acreage and where to live more safely and more contentedly in a more organic, simple, less restrictive and less stressfull environment with like minded, caring and supportive people in communities dotted all around the countryside of the UK. Go Simon.
Love the woodlander.... very sensible chap❤
I spent the first eighteen years of my life living on an off grid smallholding in the middle of the forest. Proper off grid too - no running water or electricity. We had a well in the yard, candles for light, grew and preserved our own food, foraged, fished (in my uncle's pond most of the time but still - we didn't have to buy the fish) and hunted. Dad also did a lot of bartering - amazing what he could get for a pheasant or few wild ducks. If I had money to buy some land I would definitely go back to that. I don't so I'm just making do with growing as much of my own food as possible and making as much of what I need as I can. Btw, big fan of both you and Simon 👍

For female hygiene dad would buy us what we needed. Rubbish was burned in the stove. Since we produced most of what we needed there was very little of it - mostly paper and some soft plastics. @@lexiedovahkiin we would spend all summer stashing up firewood - it's easy enough when you live in the middle of the forest. Every room in the house had one of those big, tiled furnaces (or stoves - I don't think there's an equivalent word for it in the English language). We had to light the fire in each of them daily during the cold months, they kept us toasty and dried our clothes as well. Other thing is that it's a very physical lifestyle, you have to bring the firewood from the shed, get the water from the well, tend to livestock, shovel snow, etc. - it will keep you warm. That, plus warm clothing and good hot food kept us comfortable. I grew up with that so for me it was normal but, even now I do a lot of the same things to stay warm. I need to work all summer to get my firewood and turf sorted for the winter even though I do have central heating. I rarely use it and rely on my two stoves to keep the house warm, plus I cook on the kitchen one in the winter. We have had a power cut in my area in late March, nothing major, just few hours in the evening but the neighbours were sitting in the dark, freaking out because they couldn't put heating on or make tea. I had a roaring fire on, stew and kettle for the tea on, battery operated lights and few candles going and I spent a lovely, quiet evening with my pets. Don't get me wrong, living the way I was brought up is really hard work but it's doable. Plus you have the peace of mind that no matter what you will have food, water and heat. You can't do it on your own tough, we had to work from the moment we learned to walk. I could split firewood, light the fire and cook basic food, like scrambled eggs, by the age of six. We had to because dad was working full time on top of the homesteading and there was no one to do it for us.

What a great idea this man has .
I remember the documentary. I think the old lady was called Hannah. She was unfortunately forced into a council house and had to give up all her animals, It still makes me cry when I think about it for too long
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." I first heard this in Dead Poet's Society. It's still my dream.
Got bad news for you Richard. You're not allowed to escape rent extraction in Britain! Even if you find a piece of land far from prying eyes, as a friend of mine did. In a camouflaged caravan deep in a wood with permission from his land owning friend, they photographed him from a helicopter after a tip from a nosy walker. He came home one day to find an order to quit with threats of court fines. I recommend you compare the appalling rental system in Britain compared to the rest of the world. You'll find our system is the most draconian of all. Also check out Priti Patel's recent attack on gypsies out of the blue. I am still interested especially now we are threatened by the WHO and other non elected bodies taking control of our lives, which I could not have believed could be considered a few years ago.

Much as I admire these inspirational guys the truth is that quiet opposition & just say no simply isn’t going to work, only when those responsible for the mess we find ourselves in are with their backs to a wall faced by a mob who want their immediate demise, then & only then will they fold, this will become a long overuncivil war because “they” will not give in easily!
Yet another great guest . Thank you Richard.
We have been visiting land for sale for about 6 months. This is music to our ears. My wife’s parting comment before going to work was ‘Best we buy some land and love in the woods’. And then this popped up (we have Siri switched off - so it was synchronicity - not big tech eves dropping)
Oh Richard this is your best interview ever with this gentleman..... I'm very interested in this... due to retire in 2.5yrs, hoping to make the break but worried about being able to afford to live off pension, may have to continue working just to get by but don't really want to.
Great summary of the Woodlander’s journey. I’m sure people who know him well know it, for us, as I, who’ve found him but not gone back into his story, this is a wonderful interview. Valuable too. Thank you baldy-gits 🤗

The problem with park homes sites is that you have considerable monthly fees on top of council tax. Not viable if you don’t have income over and above a state pension, or considerable savings.

During the great depression a lot of oeople did this in the UK and here in Australia. The isolation and inconvenience meant many of these places were abandoned in the post war years. Today the National Parks Authorities are hell bent on chucking people out of their shacks which have survived from those days as weekender fishing shacks.

I am 63 years old, and would love to live in this type of community. Any room for an old lady ? 😂
Hannah Horkswell was a recluse and was interviewed by the BBC, she also had animals and she lived well into her nineties and was a lovely lady and so happy.

Set up as a PMA (People's members association) with two trustee's at the land registry and you can set up your own law within that as long as everyone agrees with that.
I have wondered for years if less than 25 % turn out to vote what exactly is their mandate. I was in Worthing this week doing maintenance for a large corporation and across the road was the Environment agency waving placards for a payrise. The water companies are still tipping untreated shit into our rivers unprosecuted. The environment agency should all be unemployed

I'll be investing in this project. I spend a lot of my retirement days walking in the woods, large areas are being fenced with 2 metre fences, which they say is to protect from deer. In the last 20 years, about 50% of the roadside forest car parks have been closed down, the forests are getting more restricted.
Brilliant fantastic.. more !!!
I got in on the 4 year rule. But this gent's info is very wrong. The '4 year rule' applies to the part or whole change of original use, of a structure that was already built by permission. To erect a building on a piece of land sans permission and get away with it, is the '10 year rule' which relates of change of use of land. So, the easiest path is to justify an 'agricultural' building to get PP, then hide in it to obtain the 4 year rule lawful habitation. It's shite, but you have to battle thru. And, each time officers get an informant telling on you and they turn up, your timeline returns to Day1. I had that happen to me three times. Then there'd been a change of planning personnel, and I was forgotten for 6 years. When an old, semi retired enforcement planner eventually returned (I always got on well with him, so I suspect he hid my files), he suggested I apply for lawful habitation under the 4 year rule. I strolled through it with no difficulties. Please ensure accuracy for those who need to follow suit.

I couldn't agree more. Best thing I ever did was get out of suburbia to a rural area. I always wanted to live like Tom & Barbara in The Good Life. Not quite there yet but heading in the right direction. I will have to watch this interview again as I don't understand how Simon bought his land and now owns it if, as mentioned in previous interviews, anyone who buys property does not own it but only has permission to use it. Thanks to you both for a fascinating and inspiring interview.
Totally agree with the turning away from them instead of fighting with them, as that is what "they " expect is to do. And turning away is depriving them of the energy they get from us, and we can put that energy where it is being used in a more fruitful way.
Off grid would be great. However, not all of us can do that. It still costs money to go off grid unfortunately.

Surprised it is still legal to do this in England. We used to have squatters rights law in Canada. If no one kicked you out within 6 years the property became yours. Not anymore, Our government and their banker friends don't want anyone having land they don't pay tax or a mortgage on. I imagine it won't be long before they close that loophole there as well
What an interesting conversation. Thank you, gentlemen!
Thankyou both! I want to do this but I don’t know anyone to build this. I can offer my human power and energy not money and also motivation and positivity I will pray for people to meet one day and it will happen Take care everyone💪🏻👍😘
