@@paulsaul7674 Actually, my regulator worked fine as I checked it several times before. The window was not going down at all. The issue was with the actual wires. No, there is no need to take the window out. Just the inner panel and the lower speaker. I reconnected those broken wires with only a kit from Walmart. If you have the same issue, check the wires in the harness first before you buy a new regulator or motor.

2007 FSI Engines require you to change the cam follower located in the high pressure fuel pump every 10k miles. It takes around 30 minutes to do with the right tools, but something to be aware of if you’re going to think about buying one. Further advice if you chose to get one.. Either find a good vw/Audi shop and expect to go there often, or learn to wrench.

My 2003 2.0 FSI A3 8P 3 door with automatic transmission came to me as a Japanese import in 2011 with 50,000km on it. It is now at 185,000km. Being a 2003, the original suspension settings are hard and handling is great. I think from about 2004, Audi softened the set-up, but from those 2004+ A3s I've driven, the body roll and grip are as good as mine, just not quite as sharp, but with a big improvement in ride quality. Many for sale in 2011 had a transmission valve-body fault, so I made sure mine had been upgraded (that's a $2500 job). So it won't take long on a test drive for the gearbox to make severe down changes, thumps or sudden drop-outs to reveal themselves. Next up, from memory, are small plastic water pipes behind the engine. Heat and age causes them to leak at the joints. Find a good mechanic (no special Audi skills!) and stay on top of it - maybe happened three times: obey the low water warning signal! When you test drive one, don't be put off by driveline whines - it could be tyre noise only! I've had three brands over the years, and a wonderful set of Dunlops made an incredible noise, the Korean cheapies at the moment are still a little noisy. Hint: when your car battery dies, there are some good youtube videos on changing it yourself - it looks impossible, but pulling off and twisting the MAIN WIRING LOOM (!!) does work, even if your entire nervous system shrieks at the badness of doing it. Some commenters have asked about a driveline vibration at about 100kph which they cannot trace. Mine has a bit of that under power. I'm wondering if it's a CV joint, but it's not tyre or wheel imbalances. Mind you, this has not got either better or worse over the last 30,000km. Apart from a wheel bearing replacement, some CV boot replacement work, regular oil changes including over-regular transmission fluid changes (I'm superstitious about transmission heat leading to wear), this "boring" car has wormed "her" way into my heart!

Budget is around 4000 EURO.If could summarize, which petrol engine should I take in consideration I will be very thankful! I need something for a short time (~3 years max.) but to make a good team with my budget and not to throw huge amounts of money in repairs and maintenance. Thank you in advance!

Easily over $100, even over $145 depending where you service it (any shop vs Audi dealership) but if done yourself it should be a good $50. It's a European car service is expensive but parts/fluids/oils aren't that expensive for an Audi for this particular model so if you think you can handle doing your own service work I recommend that and you'll save a ton

definitely keep extra money for the additional repairs, mainly: -the timing chain / chain tensioner can be often worn at this mileage (usually a short rattling noise at cold start) -carbon build up on the intake valves can be an issue usually at 200 000 km, so if the engine is misfiring then this can be the problem, but it can be cleaned -the usual stuff like spark plugs and ignition coils can be faulty but this is nothing unusal - in this case you get misfires too -and if the previous owner used bad quality fuel then the injectors can be clogged all in all, the engine has to be smooth on idle without misfires/shuddering, keep the extra money for these things and change the engine oil after max 10 000 km + use high quality fuel

Inspect the cam lobes and change the cam follower located inside the high pressure fuel pump before buying. Some people neglect to change the little part and it can cause catastrophic engine damage if not replaced every 10k-20k miles. Also, they have timing belts, so change at the latest after 90k miles from the mileage written on the timing cover. Everything else that goes wrong with them is little stuff here and there, carbon buildup, ac compressor, expensive xenon lights, occasional oil or coolant leaks, commonly from the valve cover gasket. But you can expect there to be a possibility of piston ring issues, so if the car burns a lot of oil (1 quart every 1,000 miles) then it’s got bad piston rings and you’ll need hardcore engine work done. Also, the DSG clutchpack can go out in 120k miles and can be very expensive to replace.

For the most part yes but a manufacturer will have many different configurations for say a 2.0tdi. The first 3 letters of the engine code denotes a particular engine, If the A4 has 30 different codes it has 30 different engine configurations. The A3 2.0tdi(same engine as golf gtd) is 140bhp and was made to be a pocket rocket, the A4 2.0tdi ( also found in the passat) was made to be a smoother, quieter more luxurious ride.

The main issues with the Generation 2 engines (as we call them is the U.S.), or otherwise known as the EA888 which started 2008.5 through 2012, are the timing chain tensioners failing by losing tension and the timing chain itself stretching. This mostly happened on the CCTA coded engines, but has span across all engines of that generation (EA888). Both issues can bend valves and cause catastrophic failure. The other issue is the water pump and housing assembly fail a lot! Its an expensive job to have a mechanic replace the water pump and housing, because its mounted under the intake manifold and you really can't get to it without taking off the intake manifold. Its usually about $800 to $1000 U.S. dollars if you have a mechanic perform the work. Most of the cost is in labor. You can do it yourself for about $230 U.S. dollars if you have the mechanical independence to do so. I bought a 2008.5 Audi A3 2.0T TSI (Chain driven) in 2015 with 85K miles on it. Drove wonderfully until November of 2017. It seems like all the component parts on the engine have given out. I've spent about 4K U.S. dollars on DIY repairs and shops repairs. Two weeks ago the radiator started a slow leak. That'll be $330 U.S. dollars for the part. Ill have to take off the whole front end of the car to replace it. It would probably be about $1000 USD if I were to have a mechanic do it. I'm at 150K miles now. The shocks and struts have gone bad as well and those need replacing after I get the engine settled...hopefully. Its a fun sporty car when its working. But it seems like around 120k miles the components start to fail on a lot of them as my research suggests. If you haven't bought one already, the 2013 Audi A3's and up have much better reliability thus far and it seems they've fixed the timing chain tensioner issues. however, timing chain stretch may still be a problem. Anything under a 2013, I would have a complete inspection done before buying it. It would be money well spent. At this point, I have a very equal love and hate relationship with my A3! Hope that was helpful. I absolutely recommend checking out the Deutsche Auto Parts channel or the HumbleMechanic channel. They have lots of videos on VW and Audi DIY repairs, news, and information regarding most engine models. They are a great resource! Re

There are two known issues with those 3.2l engines. One being semi common and one being rare, but still more common than on other engines. The first problem is that the timing chain can stretch over time. If this is not detected early enough it will quickly damage the chain tensioners. Eventually this can lead to major damage to the engine when the chain fails catastrophically. This problem can easily be detected by the distinct rattling sound it causes (simply search for "Audi A3 3.2 Steuerkette" here on YT for some examples. This is by no means a common occurrence with this engine, but it's common enough that you should look for it when buying a used care. And if you already own one, it doesn't hurt to check for it every once in a while. Some A3 3.2 fans have theorized that certain types of oil can increase the chance of this issue occurring, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's much more likely due to excessive stress on the engine from overly sporty driving (the 250hp engine does lend itself to that though, so I'm certainly guilty of that myself XD). The other issue is quite rare, but also very serious. Especially with the early models of the 3.2l engine some would fail catastrophically within the first 30-50k km due to the pistons damaging the cylinders (I'm not a native English speaker and I can't find a good translation, the technical term in German is "Kolbenkipper"). This issue was fixed within the first few years and if you buy a used one it's very unlikely to get one with this issue as any engine that already has more than 75-100k km is basically guaranteed to not have the issue. The only exception would be a car that had the issue, got an entirely new engine on warranty, which itself had the same issue, but does not exhibit it yet. But this is so statistically unlikely, it can basically be ignored. Other than that, those 3.2l engines are known to be virtually indestructible. They can easily run for hundreds of thousands of km without any issues. And to top it all off, they are one hell of a fun to drive, especially in the A3 which is comparatively light for the amount of power this engine provide (around 1.4-1.6t depending on the type of transmission and selected extras). I picked one up last April (a 2003 3-door variant with ~110k km that looked like a car that was 2-3 years old rather than the 14 it actually was XD) and I haven't regretted it one bit so far. I put in another 10k km at this point and all it took was one new set of summer tires (I got it with a set of new winter tires on the rims that came with the car and a spare set of original Audi rims from another A3 3.2 with some used summer tires that were on their last leg and had to be replaced after ~7k km).
