I watched The Sopranos as it was originally broadcast, so it's the opposite for me, every time I watch Game of Thrones (or House of the Dragon) and the HBO title card drops, my brain is already hearing the rumbling bass of the Alabama 3 theme music.

That last scene with Zellman set something in motion that will become important in the last episode of this season. Some award winning acting in that last episode. The HBO tune, for me, will always be connected to Curb your Enthusiasm. Speaking of which, Larry David will make a cameo in an episode you guys haven't watched yet.

I can understand it. Only on rewatch did I realize just how small Albert's role really is. At this point, his scene with Richie is his only really prominent one.

Charlie hit on something that I think is one of the reasons people like Tony. We all have had those moments when we wish someone would get what coming to them or just want to give someone the belt. Tony just does it.

Not the reason Tony beat Z the reason is Tony feels like a Father figure to Irena at this point and the fact that Z is his age disgusts him So he takes it out on Z.

I think the reason the FBI wasn’t worried about them getting married is that you can be called to testify over things that happened BEFORE the marriage. They’re building a RICO case so they just have to prove Chris and the others are apart of an organized crime ring. Adrianna can testify to everything she’s seen and heard before their marriage.

Watching this with you guys again, reminds me that season 4 is one the the darkest season of TV ever made. So grim. But yeah, David Chase was very disturbed by how much people admired and idolized the sopranos and he made a conscious choice to challenge people’s ability to admire these sociopathic monsters…

Re Irina, Tony thinks everything/everyone is his. If someone else is having a good time or improving their life, he hates it. That's actually the personality of a narcissist. His mother was BPD -- both disorders are closely related ie parent/child.

I associate the HBO intro with Oz because it actually ran on free Swedish TV just a year after the states.

Irina seemed to be doing better with Zellman than she was with Tony. I honestly think that is what bothered Tony the most.

I think the thing with Irina is the same with Gloria, she connects him with a pattern of behavior he can associate with his mother. Melfi pointed to him that Carm was probably one of the few good decisions he made relationship-wise, but I think he struggles to connect with Carmela because he's not used to an actually stable woman around. Seeing Irina also become more stable and mentally healthy (at least apparently) probably bothered him, because he keeps getting less avenues to "reconnect" with the feminine he learned from his mother.

Could have named this episode “Turf Wars”. Every story thread was about a turf war. Even a turf war over an old flame. The scene where Tony was trying to explain “real estate” was really just another turf war story... about struggling Italians a century ago. It meant nothing to AJ because he has no connection to that time. Tony thinks of the past as “we got screwed”... a ready made excuse to do the things he does. Same excuse for whipping Zellman... he messed with Tony’s “sacred” past & his turf too!!

Easily my favorite song in the entire series, “Oh Girl” by the Chi-Lites. Every time I rewatch this show, it gets stuck in my head for a couple days. But for me, every time I hear the HBO thing begin on a series, I immediately think of The Sopranos and the opening song that starts. Happens every time I watch Boardwalk Empire or House of the Dragon.

The FBI was after Tony first and foremost. Adriana was a way of getting to Christopher which could lead to him cooperating against Tony. Plus, Adriana could still be called to testify against Christopher about anything prior to their marriage

The podcast that Chrissy and Bobby Baccala did, when they did this episode, they had on the guy that got his ass beat by Tony. He said Chase's original script had him bare assed and beaten. Gandolfini stepped in and said it was unnecessary, that shirtless in boxers got the point across. The actor getting his ass beat had a lot of respect for Gandolfini because of that.

YOU lads are wrong about Tony & Irena see Tony has always felt too old for Irena because her personality and because Irena cannot take care of herself So when Tony cut her loose heis expectations were that she find somebody closer to her age who could support her and love her But when he saw Her with Councilman Z he felt disgusted with Z and himself So he took it out on Z......Tony loves Irena as a Father figure and protector at this point. He is Not interested in her sexually anymore. There is zero for him to gain from her anymore.
