    I’m not a professional swimmer and it took me 6 months of constant every day training to be able to do one lap of butterfly swimming and another 6 months just to be comfortable with it. It’s not easy but with practice you can do it.

    Don't be afraid of this swim stroke. I swam competitively in my younger days, but never performed the butterfly stroke till a couple weeks ago. I watched a couple videos and I didn't know how I was doing, but someone at the pool last night said :did you use to swim competitively?" I asked why he asked and he said my butterfly stroke looked good! Now at 45, I'm swimming for my workouts vs weights and love it. Feel so much better, but love the butterfly stroke! It's such a workout!!!

    I only respectfully disagree with breathing rules. For longer distances, breathing every stroke is required. For a short sprint, hypoxic breathing patterns are fine. Most coaches are traditionalists and demand every-other-stroke for breathing. Phelps and all other professionals tend to breathe every stroke. I'll trust the pro's.

  • @wloonie

    @wloonie

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's not really breathing every stroke but entire Phelps's technique whice makes it plausible for him to breathe every stroke. He kicks both up and down, swims in the flat position and pulls with much flatter forearms. Therefore his recovery takes much less time, which he can use to breathe more without too much cost.

    Breathing every stroke is only good for a max 200. In a max 50 you should basically not be breathing, in a 100 you want to breathe about every two for a good balance between speed and oxygen. In very long distances (800+) breathing every 2 saves energy.

    To optimize your approach to mastering the butterfly stroke, focusing on one aspect at a time is very important. Initially, concentrate on mastering the body positioning, specifically the body undulation, as it is the foundation of the stroke. Once you grasp this element, move on to incorporating the arm movement, ensuring that both arms are moving in unison. The timing of the leg kick also plays a crucial role in the propulsion of the stroke. A common mistake is to kick too early or too late, so pay attention to the timing and make necessary adjustments. Incorporating a kickboard can also be beneficial as it allows you to independently focus on the leg kick. Finally, could you combine all the elements and practice the full stroke? It's important to remember to maintain a consistent rhythm and coordination with all stroke components. Incorporating a snorkel can aid in the breathing aspect of the stroke, allowing you to focus on the other elements without added strain, as taking a breath is the hardest part (at least for me). It is essential to be patient with yourself and to keep going even if progress seems slow. Remember that mastering the butterfly stroke is a process. You will eventually achieve your goal with consistent practice and attention to detail.

Need to rest a minute after each lap. Tried to do one lap butterfly and then, without stop, another lap freestyle to go back to the start point, but man, it`s just brutal. I guess I need to adjust and get used to the 50 meter nonstop drills
