This episode first made me think about working for myself when I watched it back in 1983. 6 years later I started window cleaning and have built and sold 14 rounds since then. Window cleaning can be a great way to drag yourself out of poverty, but beware, it is EXTREMELY hard to break free from.

Not by me! I loved it when it was on. Adult dramas featuring frustrated outsider types trying to fit in, like Reggie Perrin, were my favourites in the 1970s.

RIP Andrew Hall. I couldn't stand the character he played in this but apparently he was a nice bloke. That's good acting for you.

"Only gonna take us an hour". Slowest window cleaners of all time, lol.

Keep expecting a 3 wheeled van to appear.

Nowadays that house would probably be valued at about £15 for just the outside. £10 for inside and out wasn't bad for 1983

Geoffrey Palmer, who played Ben Parkinson, the father, died last week. He was a master of looking sad while being very funny. (Although he's not in this clip, he's in "The Window Cleaning Round Part 2).
