Rest in peace Bruce Montague.
Geoffrey was a great sitcom actor ,he could deliver a one liner without ever changing his dead pan expression.
Bruce Montague (Leonard) died the 16th August 2022 aged 83 . R.I.P
Sadly only Wendy and Nicholas are still with us.
I was a child when this originally came on, my Mum and Dad going through their divorce, me looking after my brother and sister. She made me feel less alone, that you had to grab happiness where you found it or just live a life of beige hell. Plus of course that it is important to find the funny side of any situation. Yes this series was very important to me.
I was in the audience at TV Centre when this was recorded back in 2000. Ruby got the biggest cheer when she appeared, though they seem to have dubbed the volume of that cheering down considerably! They also edited out the scenes in the park in which Ria & Leonard exchage a stone and a leaf (although you can still see them holding them in later shots). I guess it was over-running and they needed to make the episode shorter. I wish I could travel back to 2000 now and sit in the audience again, with all the added age and appreciation I've gained. I would laugh ten times as hard and shed a tear for those we have since lost x

I can imagine how big that laugh was. I'd forgotten about Ruby, so when she came on it was so impactful. This was all so brilliant written and acted. And now there's only Wendy and Nicolas.
R.I.P Andrew Hall (Russell Parkinson) who sadly died aged 65 on May 20th 2019.

didint realise he died until reading this , his delivery of lines were superb
It was a brilliant comedy series. I use to enjoy watching it as a child and still enjoy watching it now.
I have loved this series and especially Ria from afar, being in the States. It shaped me, my look on life, and never taking anything for granted.
Wendy Craig.......A Dame hood should be given
How have I never seen this! Just brilliant 😂 it’s like they’ve never been away. Especially Wendy, she is totally Ria once again
Geoffrey palmer 1927-2020
I always loved that programme still watch it now and that special episode was so nice thankyou
I like when they meet in the park and one pigeon stays behind when the rest just fly away. That one pigeon is a Butterflies fan.
Wendy Craig was a boyhood crush. I saw her play Peter Pan in Blackpool when she was about 20! I have followed her ever since!
I wish we could have a new next generation of comedy writers and actors to entertain us but alas I think we have had them all however I would really love to thank them for all their work making these sketches and making our miserable little lives a little bit more enjoyable God Bless and thank you a beautiful tribute to a certain Mr Palmer who has just left us ✝️💕🇬🇧🤘🙏🏻👍🎚💕🙏🏻😘👍🇬🇧🎚

I still love you, Mrs Parkinson!
Grew up watching this... still funny! They did a great job of picking up where they left off. Sad that Geoffrey passed a week ago.
Thank you for uploading this didn't see it at the time. RIP Geoffrey Palmer
RiP Bruce Montague aka Leonard 🙏 😢 💔
That was really lovely 😊
I loved this series so much! At the time, I was feeling the same type of unrest in my life. I ached right along with Ria. How wonderful to see them all again!
This is great! I don't think I saw this episode at the time, though I did see the original episodes right from the start back in 1978, when I was 9 years old! Although he was 8 years older than me at the time, I mainly identified with Adam (played by my almost namesake, Nicholas Lyndhurst!) As a family, we watched it and my Mum bore an uncanny resemblance to Ria/ Wendy Craig. Seeing this, they looked even more similar in their latter years! We were a family of Mum, Dad and 2 boys, too! Ben/ Geoffrey Palmer, was a bit like my Dad and Russell (Andrew Hall), slightly like my older brother! They don't make 'em like this any more! Thanks for this upload!
I'm 59 and what a load of rubbish over turning 60. It's great!! My poor dad didn't make it to 49. My mom didn't make it to 67. I'm praising God for every new day! I wouldn't go back for anything especially these days! It's hard to be young these days.
I remember watching this with my mum, and I knew from her expression that she understood exactly how Ria felt about her life.
They didn't meet in a park, they met in a cafe when she flicked ash in his trifle and knocked his coffee over.
Just saw Bruce and Wendy again 19 years after this in doctors 'tv series Tuesday 8th October , 2019 get series butterflies
This made me happy and sad!
Fantastic
Ruby in 1979: "This 'ouse smells like cat pee." Ruby in 2000: "Cat's overshot it's litter tray again. It's all up the wall! Doesn't bother me, its not my 'ouse." 😂😂😂😂 I have a couple of cats like that, so I feel like Ria.
WENDY THE MATRON IN THE ROYAL I MISS BUTTERFLIES AND THE ROYAL 😢
great show, great memories. I remember when her first grandchild was coming. She made up her shopping list & said, I have to add, blue hair rinse. Some things are too good to forget. Now her breasts are in her armpits. I can relate. Only the Brits make something this good. Americans would jut gather up the cast & talk about how great they used to be. I love British TV.
I was a young lad when I fell in love with Ria.
I'd wished they would of done a one catch up series. I still hope they do a one off catch up series of Goodnight Sweetheart, when they brought that one catch up episode and did the same with Porridge, what did the BBC decide to do run a catch up series of Porridge even tho it got slated when they showed the catch up episode. Yet Goodnight Sweetheart that got brilliant ratings they said no to to run a further series, and what happened to Porridge? Well it fell flat and got dropped.

Re Goodnight Sweetheart, those who enjoyed it may like The Flipside of Dominic and Another Flip for Dominic, available on KZread. There’s also a Butterflies US pilot.
Doesn't bother me, it's not my 'ouse
