I hate how true this comment is! I feel like Farrell is more of a soup stirrer but Butch's arms were necklaces for his opponents and that's more dangerous than a cheeky shoulder. Excellent comparison!

Nah. James used arms in this tackle.

By far one of my favourite thugs of all time. Some legit thumpers in there too...that one on Mortlock was brilliant! But I'm sure there were many options of the classic Butch clothes lines hanging some folks out to dry!

Please Butch might have been a bit to physical for the supporters and players of most countries At times he was a player who played outside the rules but to say he would have been in prison if he did those things of the field is totally unfounded. Today he is a respected commentator with some great insight into the game. When he became older he was much more level headed and Fourie du Preez and him were the two best Springbok players(players over all) in 2007. Butch was much better than people will give credit for.

Did James ever make a clean tackle - I'd really like to know.

It was a card introduced in South Africa that indicated that the citing commissioner would have to look at it. However I believe it was scrapped after a year.

@@AndrewDavidForde (Awfully late) Correction. Was a card introduced by SANZAAR for the Super Rugby matches, not just South Africa. But ye, did not last long because the referees tended to use it as a bit of a get out of jail free card, not making a decision on dodgy tackles but passing it over to the citing commissioner to look at after the game. It was a good idea but badly implemented.

His yellow cards matched his caps... Loool just kidding

J he was quite shit in defence, gave way to many penalties!
