My rabbits have chewed through doubled up deer netting a few times. I’ve gone to everything that they will entertain eating in raised beds with removable siding of hardware cloth. Glad to hear I’m not the only one struggling.

My neighbor, who also has a bunch of plants in his yard, with a glint in his eye informed me that he has “taken care of” the rabbit problem. Don’t know exactly what he’s done but I’ve not lost any plants at all this year.

Fences can make a garden look like a prison if there is not enough greenery in front of them. That Ruby magnolia looks terrific. I want one!

We have 2" by 4" welded wire in our rail fence that goes around our back yard. I could not understand how some of our plants were getting eaten to the ground until I saw a rabbit squeeze right through the wire like it was no big deal. And it wasn't a small rabbit. If their head can fit through, they're coming in.

Thank you for telling us about rabbits and okra!!!! The last 3 years something has nibbled on our okra. It's in an area where the deer never go. I have bee trying to figure out what in the world it was. We never see them in that area but I know they are around. Gotta be those little stinkers!!!! Now we can try to do something for the short term to protect the okra.

I can totally empathize with your rabbit problem! There are some plants that I just don't buy anymore unless they will be planted in a container or will have a protective cage around them so they won't be quickly destroyed by rabbits.

Yes! this was just about to be my exact question. I asked my local nursery in Seattle about this plant over a year ago when Jim first talked about it - they had no clue what I was talking about. Cant find it anywhere. Saw SLPCs webpage about it with no indicators of where to purchase. Still looking 🥲

I like that you have plants waiting for a spot in the garden to open up. I do the same! A bit behind here on the veggie bed, but lots of shrubs in a new large bed (inspired by you), and the irises, peonies, and heirloom roses are all spectacular. Love this time of year!

Do you tack that fence down at the bottom, or are your rabbits easily discouraged? 😄 Everything is looking SO good, you two. Our season is just getting started (last night was in the 30s, and the night before was a hard frost, but fingers crossed that's the last of it), and I'm so ready to start spring/summer gardening.

We are looking forward to our May Night salvias blooming here in Zone 7A- they are a JP recommendation that were on special in our local garden center last August. Also, I think that we have the same deer fencing. Ours was pretty cheap as well- the utility company’s arborist left it to protect our replacement trees.

That mock orange plant looks to be a quite interesting plant. I can remember as a child growing up in the early 1960s in Wisconsin that my parents used to comment about a couple of "mock oranges" creating an archway in our back yard, about early summer. They were also fragrant as I remember, but had much tinier blooms. That illicium also seems like an interesting plant. It reminds me of my red 'Sonic Bloom' weigela. Great point about wood chips absorbing shock from anyone walking on them, guarding against compacted soil.

I fell in love with that red pop of color in the garden tour you did. Willing to trial it in my garden, but just wondered if you had insider info on it first.

hi Jim, we went to Big Bloomers today. we really enjoyed it. I would have never know about it if you had not mentioned it in one of your videos. I have a question for you. We noticed 2 trees they have growing there. 2 were over by where the fruit and nut trees were and might be some kind of white birch? The other ones were all in a row over by where the roses were and the pergola area. The leaves looked like the grow in a layered look. It may just be the time of year with new growth there. they appeared to grow column like. We asked about those and they said hornbeam is what they are. I was wondering if you might know what genus those 2 trees might be? we would like to get some like those. I can send pictures to your email so you can see what we were looking at. thanks so much. (we are in eastern NC zone 8a.)
