Bushcraft Tarp Camp (1/5) - Establishing Camp

Ойын-сауық

This is the first episode of the Bushcraft Tarp Camping mini-series. Throughout this series I will be completing the setup of a semi-permanent camp that I can return to throughout the future to complete a variety of bushcraft trips and projects. In this first episode I share the process of establishing the camp and getting the camp basics set up.
Thank you to everyone who watches, I hope you all enjoy!

    What do you do of you have a agressive bear in the area or notice multiple bears near you?

  • @KuskBushcraft

    @KuskBushcraft

    11 ай бұрын

    I've never had issues with bears being aggressive. I do carry bear spray just in case, but if I were to encounter a bear displaying aggressive behaviour I would leave the area. If the bear were to false charge or if it came to me having to use bear spray to deter it, I would get out of the area and notify the local Fish & Wildlife authorities. There are a lot of bears in the areas I camp but they tend to avoid humans. The best defense when it comes to bears is having a good education on bear behaviour and bear safety. I'd highly recommend taking a bear safety course to anyone that's planning on spending time outdoors in bear country.

    Great stuff! What material did you make your tarp from and has it been treated with anything for water resistance? Thanks!

  • @KuskBushcraft

    The tarp is an 8'x8' cotton tarp made from a 600 thread count bed sheet. I made it a few years ago, stitched on the tie-out loops with reinforcements, and waxed it for added water proofing. Thank you for watching! Happy trails.

    Saw your video could have shown the water being made good. What to say that you didn't use the water from the stream to cook the rice. Did you have another bottle with you?

    Kusk, do you ever worry about animal encounters at night since you sleep in partly open shelter? Like wolves or bears or raccoons?

    Speaking of setting up a camp, whatever happened to your mini, log cabin? Were you able to go back to it,or did you have to abandon that site?

  • @KuskBushcraft

    I had to abandon that site as I no longer have permission to use that area for camping. My plan is to begin a new permanent shelter later this summer so I can live out of it this winter. Thank you for watching!
