Burlington Northern Locomotives
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Burlington Northern was a freight railroad created on March 2nd, 1970 with the merger of the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, and Spokane Portland and Seattle Railroads. For the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Burlington Northern, I thought it would be appropriate to go back and look at some BN locomotives I’ve captured in more recent years on BNSF freight trains. We will see locomotives painted in both the classic Cascade Green and Black scheme as well as the more recent BN “Executive” or “Grinstein” scheme of the 1990s. Additionally, we’ll see a beautifully restored Burlington Northern SD9, number 6234, running on the Minnesota Transportation Museum’s Osceola and St. Croix Railway.

Burlington Northern Is one of my favorite falling flag railroads because it’s one of the reasons why I love The color Green

Tommy Pickles Fan 1992.... since When is the BN(SF) a "falling flag railroad"??.... did I miss something? lol The BN bought out the Santa Fe and merged it into the BN system, further expanding it's territory.... it's anything But, a "fallen flag railroad"..... despite the fact that they are all having down-turns in freight movement since the last quarter of 2019, and it IS only going to get worse as time goes on here.... as the the NWO agenda becomes more & more implemented and depopulation becomes more aggressive.

When it was created in 1970, many railfans considered it a killer of many good railroads. Its nice to know that it created it's own history and that it proved to be one of the best railroads of it's time.

Burlington northern was one of my favorite freight train operators when I was little. I watched lots of train related stuff on DVD and Burlington northern was very common on those DVD’s. It’s cool Burlington northern still has some operating locos. Even older gen BNSF locos and Santa Fe trains
BN's green locos are my favorite railroad locomotives. I live on a BNSF (former BN) main line and its always a treat to see either BN or ATSF loco schemes on the rails

I’ve Only Seen Them Once. I May Have Seen It More But One Time I Had My Camera And It Had A BN Locomotive In The Lead. 2 Blue And Yellow SF Locos Trailing. And A BNSF SD40. And That’s The Only Time I Remember Seeing BN Or SF But I Love The Design Of Them. My Top Favorite Loco Designs: 1: Fort Worth And Western 2: Burlington Northern 3: Santa Fe Silver And Red GEVOs 4: Santa Fe Blue And Yellow SD40s
I grew up in the 80s and 90s close to the Stampede pass line through Covington, so it was cool to see the occasional (closer to rare) green BN loco. They started using that route a lot more once they merged with ATSF and painted the trains.
Now I understand what BNSF stands for!

So cool to see that, I grew up in the Havelock area of Lincoln, NE and saw so many of these trains and logos for many years. Lots of old memories came back seeing those logos.
Just not the same without the interlocking BN logo. All hail the great Burlington Northern! Down with the BNSF!
Yay I love BN! The BN is far superior to all other fallen flags!
Love the RS3K intro!

I saw a executive mac and you could still see the faded out BN Logos and there was also a green BN locomotive that had the big white BN logo on the nose.
The executive locos look cool
Those rs3k’s are just so classic of a dvd I have from bnsf’s Stevens pass in the 1990’s with lots of still bn power playing those rails even a few ATSF warbonets and yellow Bonnets and ns and leasers make it in there but it’s all mostly bn, long love the bnsf, it’s been 50 years of bn and ATSF but 25 years of bnsf, god bless the Santa Fe for keeping these magnificent locos alive
A great video , would like to see more of the history of BNSF !
I stumbled across this purely by accident, the second loco clip with what I’m guessing is a emd 60 at the head of the train is my fav paint scheme

Dang their really keeping 6234 looking nice. It was built in 1959 and for a 62-year-old locomotive it looks damn nice
The green Burlington Northern locomotive paint Scheme is probably my favorite
Someone is getting old. My memories of BN were seeing F7s and F9s in Duluth and Northtown. Even got a few with Frisco power mixed in. Back when, it was common for folks to travel to Chicago and shoot all those E8-9s. We even traveled to southern Ill. to shoot the bicentennial caboose. Herrin,Ill.
The Executive Scheme was just for the MACs.

Actually, Burlington Northern's Executive paint scheme was originally from Burlington Northern 1, Burlington Northern 2, and Burlington Northern 3, which are their executive train streamliners. That's why it's called the executive paint scheme.

Also, a few years after you filmed the 6234, the Leslie RS3K(My favorite train horn ever) was changed out to a P3 or M3. It's sad, as none of the MTM's active ex-BN engines use an RS3K now.
Nice video about my former employer ( 1978 - 1984 ). A side note here, BNSF was not a merger. Burlington Northern, Inc. purchased ATSF outright. The then new full spell Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad then traded on NYSE under BN stock symbol (BNI) and BN Inc was the surviving corporate entity. Shares traded under BNI until Berkshire Hathaway acquired all BNI shares outright or exchanged them for BRKB shares (I swapped mine for BRKB's). While working in BN Marketing on network strategy issues in early 80's, we simulated acquiring MILW, CNW, CR and just about any combination of railroads using rail network design software from ALK. The best combination was BN + ATSF which we thought, back in 1982, would make a great railroad where the partners complimented the commercial strengths of each other and compensated for the weaknesses of each partner. It was a great place to work, good people to work with and had many good times.

I love Burlington northern!
Some BN C30-7's are still in their green/black livery here in Brazil in 2020, knowing that locomotives are only repainted when they're put in to the shops for big overhauls, that speaks volumes about their reliability.
The Burlington Northern units paint definitely aged better than the Santa Fe units, the warbonnets look pink now
I wonder how many SD60MS are still in the Burlington Northern Green Livery and SD70MACS in the Executive livery ?
This is awesome I'm s Burlington Northern my favorite color is green when I was a kid I got to write on the Amtrak in the 90s up to Washington State from Salt Lake City Utah while I was up in the Northwest I remember seeing Burlington Northern engines they're one of my favorite fall on the flags I always love their Burlington Northern logo thanks for doing a video on the Burlington Northern peace out have a great day coaster fan 2105
Another round of awesome clips Mike! Cascade green has always been one of my favorite paint schemes. Even though it's incredibly simple, it's just so appealing to the eye. I just wish there were still BN engines around San Diego :/
I grew up with the Santa Fe in California but I love seeing Burlington northern together as well. Glad to see BNSF as a company opposed to Union Pacific
Cascade green with an RS3K horn, that's gotta be the ol' BN! Great video, Mike.
Bn is my fav especially their sd70mac with EMD 710g3b which makes jet engine sound
I have Love NB long time
I just found out that in Kentucky at the Kentucky railways museum there is a EMD Locomotive on one end of a excursion Train and a Santa Fe Engine on the other end
Cool video mate
I wish both BN and ATSF were separate much longer so I can experience them together to this day
I found a BN caboose in branchline once :P Other than that I haven't seen any Cascade Green locos just an Executive

Question: Do They Ever Paint Newer Locomotives In The BN Or SF Paint Job With BNSF Written On It?
