Airtight I’m an American, and I’ve also lived in many other countries. When you say “almost all of them” - if you’re talking about speaking English in other countries, then you are correct. But if you’re talking about most Americans are the type of Americans who say “You speak OUR language in America!” Like these two old lady trolls.… I would say you were incorrect. I would say the majority of Americans are not like that, just like the majority of Americans did not vote for Donald Trump. Unfortunately the idiots are louder and more memorable 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hatred IV I agree. Yes, it is necessary for most, if not all, citizens of the USA to be proficient in English, and effectively integrate into the dominant society around them, for both personal and societal benefit. Nevertheless, this point of argumentation holds little merit in this case, as the man in the video is clearly fluent in English. The customers, and provokers of this incident, seemed to take offence to the man in this video speaking another language, fluently might I add, to another individual.

They say to never speak up against your elders. But if you’re mentally sound and fully aware of your words and actions, I won’t shy away from speaking up and addressing any disrespectful behavior. I’ve worked with elderly people before and most of them were nice, awesome individuals whom I have tons of respect for. But if you act like this…No way I’m giving you my respect after what you said and/or done.

The most difficult part of working in retail and fast food is having the self control to not punch out people like this.

Yeah I never understood why people cant tolerate other languages. We live in a world where translating is at our fingertips but people are ignorant. Im a worker at a superior grocers in Pomona California. Last Sunday June 9, 2024. I was in the office coming back from lunch an old elderly white man approach me asking for the manger. I had told him the manger is off till Tuesday, he then became upset and processed to state that the woman in the accounting booth (ships money to other parts of the world, or helps pay bills) should speak English. That we're in America to not speak Spanish to know English, that America is all English. I got upset because I knew he was being prejudiced and racist but i didnt know what to say cause I've never dealt with anything like this before. I simply told him that he is in a Hispanic grocery store and Ameirca is build on diversity and diversity language. He just simply continue that she and everyone in the store should speak English then left. Im glad this manager stood up for his workers

Meh, he could have been more polite while telling them off and not backing down. I've seen many situations like this where the staff was so polite and reasonable, that the rude customers just took their silence and left.

Yo mum Yo mum it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re dumb but it’s proven that knowing more than 1 language is beneficial to the brain and studies have shown that knowing a second language helps works the brain and helps delay the onset of things like dementia and Alzheimer’s. I’m not saying people are dumb for only knowing one language but I do believe that those who do know more than one language definitely have an advantage. Now, do I consider the ladies in the video dumb? Absolutely. From the video they seemed to be very closed minded and intolerant of others. Knowing more than one language is awesome and takes a lot of hard work to be able to communicate and understand languages. I love hearing people talk in different languages. It’s quite fascinating to me.
