@LLOYDJARED BACANI Les Paul experimented with solid body designs before 1950, but it was not the "Les Paul." Fender released the Esquire and Broadcaster in 1950. Gibson responded by bringing in Les Paul as a consultant and released the Gibson Les Paul in 1951 and 1952. So yes, Fender was first.

@LLOYDJARED BACANI it is common knowledge that lots of people were experimenting with solid bodies, Leo Fender WAS however the first who got it right and made it commercially viable. In the same way he acquired the projects of an electric bass prototype that dated the 1920's (circa) , only he was able to perfect them and make the precision bass, which is for this reason considered the first electric bass

Same here buddy. I've been a musician for seven or eight years. I am a guitarist and a singer. And I studied my guitars inside and out. I knew right away that it wasn't a 1960 either. I knew it was right around between the early and mid 70s. Like I have a Les Paul myself. And I thought it was a 2010 model. And upon further inspection and investigating the serial number it turned out it was a 2003 guitar not a 2010. And also the model it was only made in 2003 and 2004. And the Les Paul I have is number 1394 in the lineup

Didn't need to check the pots. Notice Jesse didn't. I saw it with the purple lining in the case(70's)as soon as he opened it, then the body separation, and volute. 60's serial numbers got re-used in the 70's as well, so that's fairly worthless to date them until about 76 when they put sn's on a decal. I've dealt with a lot of people who thought they had a valuable piece and didn't. At least this guy accepted it and didn't go into denial mode like a lot of them do.

would be very tough to confuse a 69 les paul for a 62 les paul considering a 62 is a SG.

I recently found out my black 77 les paul was a Les Paul Pro and Not a Standard like I thought. I had the same feeling someone would when they found out they were adopted when someone pointed it out! You could see where the PAF's were routed out to accommodate the humbuckers which is something they did often back then. Ebony fret board should have tipped me off but...

Rick, we were there.😂 Didn’t quite extend into hair metal. Triumph, rock and roll. Toto, pop. But it’s all good. After all, the goal was to have a spotty memory. So by 1990 we had achieved our goal in life. Rock on, brother.

There's a lot of guitar experts giving some (extremely valid, I'll admit) criticism here, but this is Pawn Stars - it's a show aimed at people who may not know anything about certain things, but something about other things, that's what's fun about it. It's an entertainment program. I know a reasonable amount about guitars, and I could tell right off the bat that this was never gonna be a 1960 Les Paul -- the guitar just screams 70's. But show me some American coin from 1871 that's supposed to be super rare and I've got absolutely no idea what to look for to tell whether it's worth ten dollars or ten thousand.

I have a 1974 Les Paul Custom, and my immediate thought was 'that looks like 1970s to me'. Definitely not 1974 though.

It’s pretty amazing that in all the time he had it, around all of the guitar experts, players, and techs that he was around in those years, that nobody told him that his guitar was a 1970’s. Two piece body is a very basic dating giveaway. I’m not buying that he didn’t know.

The show is what it is...nothing on the show is actually being bought or sold. It's just a backdrop to tell stories about antiques.

1:15 Jimmy page and Eric Clapton use Les Paul guitars. I’m well aware that Eric did. He also used an SG. But everyone associates Clapton with a Strat. I’d have rattled off Jimmy page, joe Perry, Slash.
