    Kia Ora, A DNA test was done before we met..however our looks alone could probably give it away 😅He is a great man and although he never knew of my existence my mum always told me about my father. There's a truth behind the story but at the end of day, I was able to make a connection with him and continue through to today. I am so blessed and I can only hope others out there get the opportunity like I. God bless you all Nga mihi Piki

    I love these stories. I was adopted at birth in 1964 by lovely parents. In 1985 when I was 21 I found my birth mother. She had married my birth father two years after I was born. So I was also able to meet a 15 year old sister and 11 year old brother! It's been almost 37 years and I'm still close with my family

    So why did she give you up for adoption? I can never get my head round how a mother can do that, although I know peoples circumstances are different. I just know even if I was struggling I could never in a million years give up my baby.

    I love it when adopted kids get to meet their birth parents. I was adopted at birth, always knew I was and always knew the names of my biological mom and dad....I met my biological father when I was 2 and didn't get to meet my mom until I was 25. We started talking when I was 23 and the day I was able to meet her after 25 years was literally the BEST day of my life. We are super close now 😀

    David , hats off to your researchers for actually finding nice locations to film in Oldham , it must have been a challenge back then , it would be virtually impossible today , I have lived in Oldham for all of my 64 years and nowadays it's not as it was 20,30 or even 40 years ago , then, it had character , sadly, not any more, you didn't get to see it at it's best, I love watching your videos , I always need plenty of tissues , you make a lot of people very happy , that is an awesome thing to do.

    I really feel for Gladys. It's clear that Fiona's birth is tied to some intense trauma for her, and I can't say I blame her for not wanting to meet her daughter for the first time under the lens of a camera! I'm so glad she went to meet her before she left the UK.

    Oh how I love a happy ending. God bless them all. I haven’t seen or heard from my daughter and my two grand babies for 14 months now. My daughter told me on January 29th 2021 that she didn’t want me in her life anymore and I am not allowed to see my two grand babies ever again. She suffers from bipolar disorder and she went off her meds when she wanted to get pregnant again. And she didn’t go back on them because she wanted to breastfeed her baby. Two months after he was born, is when my daughter told me she wanted me out of her life. Her husband hates me and has since they first got married. I don’t know why, because I loved him like a son. But he was terribly abusive to my daughter, so I think he saw his chance to cut her off from her family by emotionally taking advantage of her mental illness. Overnight she suddenly hated me and wanted me gone. I’m completely heartbroken and miss them so much. But I don’t go where I’m not wanted. My biggest fear is that he’s abusing her and the children. But there’s just nothing I can do unfortunately. She made her choice. Or did she? It’s the not knowing that hurts the most.😢💔

    Do your siblings know what your Dad said? As the simplest way would be for you and your siblings to be tested: and find out whether you are full or half siblings. Or if you have cousins on your Dad's side, one or more of them might get tested too, and then find out if they share or don't share DNA with you. Alternatively, if you were tested by yourself, you might have more distant relatives on either side. Anyway, if you do pursue any DNA tests, think about how you would feel if the answer isn't what you hoped or expected, and whether there could be any difficult conversations as a result. Best wishes.

    Does this mean adoption is not a solution?? Almost all children want and long for their biological parents.

  • @Gerwi545

    @Gerwi545

    Жыл бұрын

    Not at all! Adoption is essential to any child needing love and a home. Longing for biological parents is in every child's heart but it doesn't mean it's everything that defines a person. Those that raise us are also part of our being and deserve recognition.

  • @ayishas4385

    Adoption is a necessary and often wonderful solution! It just doesn't take away the pain of learning about the realities and messiness of life. We don't get to fix that for kids; we can't protect them from having to deal with that some day. But we (society and adoptive parents) can give them as good a life as possible, teach them and help them grow, so that they're better equipped to deal with it when the time comes.

    Why did Piki agree to meet William Marr if he didn't even remember having a relationship with Piki's mother? I hope they did a DNA test to prove he was her father first. Because at first he was hesitant to believe that he had a daughter. He didn't seem to remember having a trist with any woman when he came there on that ship.

    There was a lot we didn't see/hear on screen. I just figured that he was in denial at first, like "No, that's not possible" because it was such a shock. It's not an uncommon human response to that sort of a situation! But presumably he realised it was possible, or he wouldn't have agreed to watch her video and then meet up with her.

    Look for it in the census records from the time when that person was a child. It will show his father's name on there if they were together for any of the census'.

  • @lesleywilliams1210

    @lesleywilliams1210

    Sometimes it is recorded in the person's marriage certificate, or there might be "bastardy" records. Alternatively if you trace your other lines, DNA tests might uncover a family line you weren't expecting. I found that a great-grandmother had two children where the father was unknown, before she married my great-grandfather. He was listed as the step-father in the UK census, and in the previous census, she was living with her parents as a single mother. A lot of people talk about ancestors getting up to mischief, but often a darker reality is that poor women who went into service were vulnerable and could be raped by their employer or other family members of the employer.
