Built in 6 Months, This Home in Kerala Redefines Sustainability (Home Tour).
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Nestled on the outskirts of Kochi, Alarine unfolds the story of Ar Zarine Jamshedji and her husband, Alan, in their unique haven. This tranquil abode, not too distant from the city bustle, immerses itself in peace, surrounded by lush green paddy fields and cradled by rubber and nutmeg plantations.
Crafted in a swift six months, the house stands as a testament to innovation, utilizing Stereogram’s cutting-edge Schnell 3D Panel construction system. Its allure lies in a blend of structural prowess, top-tier insulation, rapid construction, and a seamless fusion of prefab and in-situ elements.
Approaching Alarine is akin to discovering a hidden gem. The transparent structure defies conventional expectations, revealing only vetiver-covered rooftops and the expansive paddy fields. Perched on a flat terrain of a plot with dramatic contours, the house invites exploration via meandering stairs etched into the steep landscape. A formal doorway is absent, inviting guests directly into a space where indoors and outdoors entwine beautifully.

Schnell panels, laterite mud plaster, and a verdant vetiver canopy atop the roof emerge as standout features. Through her ingenious design, the architect prompts a reevaluation of our housing norms, encouraging a future where sustainability transcends choice and becomes a way of life.

Respect for the lady when she said "we didn't want to block the view of the neighbour behind who also bought the property to enjoy the view in the front".

@@animesh_maity Being an architect does not make someone selfless in their decisions. Here UK, a possible example in London, is the Architects own home, the front in road parking space for local residents, neighbours and possibly public, they occupied with oversized planted pots. Seems they didn't need the space but they also didn't want any cars including from the local school infront of their home, windows. The architect in this video took into consideration their neighbours view. 💚

@@leafy803 that depends on locality and on that person's mindset too
hey zarine please dont stop doing what you are doing. It was one of the greatest example how can architecture make you feel certain way. I felt the peace of that house through video. Amazing!!
The mosquitoes, lizards and snakes make it hard to live in such a place. It all looks veey romantic in a video. But life will be hard.

@@arjunraj823 I am not arguing. I have been to kerala many times. It is very beautiful. My point is the house is not a practical design. Keeping it open in the night let's in insects and all.

exactly my thought. mosquitos, insects, snakes, rats etc are a part of nature here.

very valid point - someone should also show what day to day living in such houses are
I never thought I’d ever say these words but Zarine, Nicely done. I came across a collection of photos of this house elsewhere and what really caught my eye at the time being a Hi-Fi Audiophile Enthusiast were the Rethm Speakers from Ar.Jacob George. Never had I realised you’d done your home there. I’m really feeling happy and fulfilled knowing that there still exists Architects who actually live up to the real purpose of their mastery.
She's pure hearted and talented!!!
One of the best videos so far! Thanks a lot buildofy for putting all together for us here!
Hiya Zarine.... Somehow the video, the house, and your concept, connected with me. Been thinking on the subject for quite a while, but wasn't able to find a way forward. Your video gives me something more to think about. Thanks much.
Loved the earthy red plaster on top, the solar panels built in, and the grass on top. Truly blends in.
love this ! fantastic work, AR Zarine! very beautiful.
Eventhough she insists it's not the aesthetics/uniqueness she is rooting for, i kinda feel too much emphasis was put into it that hinders the practicality of living there day in and day out against the forces of nature. But I'm sure they have contingencies put in place considering how experienced they are. It should've been covered in the video for us commoners to put things into perspective.

Buildofy is just inspirational. Dhwaj and team, you guys sometime make me realise my purpose when I am engaged in my day to day activites. Thanks a lot, keep compiling the best works.
Wow.. Living life without barriers..in the midst of nature..Wonderful concept.. God bless...
As an architect living in Kerala, I would love to see more houses like this, but it's practically impossible for a normal family to live and maintain it. If this is a holiday home, which means it would be closed up for a major part of the year, then I guess it would work. But for a normal family with normal everyday problems, this would raise a lot of concerns. Apart from practicality, this is an amazing architectural experimentation, something we don't often strive for.

what would you say are the major concerns for someone building this type of home for everyday use in kerala? Would the construction materials not last? Would the plantation on the roof create issue? Im just curious. TIA
“Blended in” so well!
The house exudes a striking simplicity and elegance. However, I have a few reservations regarding potential issues with mosquitos and rain, as the house is situated below ground level in a damp area. The proximity of the swimming pool to the bedroom is undoubtedly aesthetically pleasing, but it may seem awkward to have it placed so close without any separation in between but just an edge.
Nice concept, theme and thought process..
Calming place to live! Amazing work!
I can tell a lot of thought went into this home and even considering others before it was built. Inspirational. ❤
hey again, thank you for sharing such warm, wonderful and sensible homes that have a purpose behind its creation. i am grateful to the architects of this house, the lady and her husband for the sensitivity they carry in their living. i would love to visit this house someday as an architect myself to experience this warm abode. wish we can have more of case study trips to such wonderful homes.
This is absolutely brilliant. Congrats to both of you and also to all the life who have made this beautiful and thoughtful piece of art their home.
Incredible and the way she describes shows the passion behind it.. kudos❤

Wow!!! What an incredible piece of architecture!👌👏👏👏👏👏
😍😍 LOved this ,great work👏👏
Very very happy to see your house what I was thinking about. But I am stuck by usual urban practices, vastu and other beliefs. I am struggling with those construction workers everyday for having little greenary into and around my home. Your video will surely help me to justify my vision. It encourages me to take bold decisions to make my concrete walls into green walls. Thank u for sharing your home.

Vastu includes calculations & numbers along with alignment of planetary bodies on earth, rain, light, wind, place of worship in home, gate, location of home in a plot of land, location of open well, water bodies etc. This was broadly checked before constructing a building/house. Every architect will study the above things before constructing, which mean they all follow vastu. But there are some vastu expert fools, who tell you that it should be made in this or that matter or so and provide you a plan of their own which is simply bs*.
Maam, your concept which you have build. Even I had something similar concept in my mind for My Home. Very Nicely Made. Beautifully Executed
The outside view is so mindblowing the greenary.. The house too is good 👍the grass on the top 👌

amazing but what about safety ? I always think about how these kinds of houses protect themselves from burglars?
Homes that connect with nature make life worth living. Slows down the time. This is a unique yet beautiful home.

Nice sustainable design 👍
the very human thing 😍😍a humble masterpiece
Loved the vietiver part
Your home is only upstaged by you magnificent attitude
Simply love it............
Lovely, beautiful! I would live there!!!
Can you please let us know what sort of fireproofing have you used for the internal walls? (Vermiculite/Intumescent paint)Are the schnell panels structurally sound to support another level? What sort of waterproofing membrane is in use to support vegetative growth and what’s preventing the roots from piercing through the water barrier?
How do you handle dust and wind through the open area? It's inevitable. So, I'm sure you've thought about it during the design. Would love to know 🙏
The idea and the thought to dream something like this is crazy
I loved it 😍 i need one in my village
