    OH MY GODDDD THANK YOU! I had this computer case when I was a kid, with a dual pentium 3 setup on an ECS D6VAA. I actually still have it and recapped the board and was looking EVERYWHERE to figure out what case it was originally in. Sadly I had no idea it was an old school INWIN case. It was lost in moves past....

    Man, I've been into retro building, collecting and benchmarking for several years. Got almost every cool piece of hardware I ever wanted. Like Pentium Pro, Slot 2, i840, FX 5800 Ultra and Quantum Obsidian X24 level stuff (no Voodoo 6000, but if I wanted it badly I could). Well, after playing around with all that cool stuff I to date own I have to say that I feel somewhat disappointed. At first when I was began collecting I was like you "bored of this new hardware and stupid games, let's check stuff from the time when grass was greener" but in the end I have to admit modern stuff is better in every shape or form. Check for example Red Dead Redemption 2. Half Life, Quake was how it all started but compared to RDR2 it's a joke. Now hardware-wise there's watercooling stuff, RGB that was never possible back in the day. And while I enjoy old HDD and floppy sounds it's really hard to ignore how silent modern computers have become. Nevertheless, I still from time to time play with my old hardware.

    You can build a 386 from a PC CHIPS M811 VER: 3.1 board. They have a setting in the BIOS to where you can limit the RAM and processor speeds plus turning off performance and CPU cache. You can pick these boards up for 20 to 30 bucks. There have been quite a few 386 videos of this board so people are starting to catch on and prices are rising on these boards. They can play Wing Commander also.

    The Tualatin 1400 is a very nice, fast, and exclusive Retro CPU for Windows 98/2000 Gaming, and should also run fine with 1.6 Ghz without VCore increasing (latest SL6BY/tB1, tB1 stepping). The older tA1 stepping need more VCore for this frequency. Voodoo² SLI 12MB would be a nice upgrade for this machine. The GeForce 3 is a very good partner for this CPU.

    I love this! Thanks for sharing. I really wish I had a case like that. Finding old cases like that in good condition is getting harder over time. A PIII just doesn't feel right in a modern case! I also noticed some lower quality capacitors on your motherboard that have probably silently failed or are close. The brown/white and blue/gold ones are OST and are known to fail. Please let me know if you are interested in replacing them and I would love to help. Hate to see nice old boards like that fail due to caps.

    nice story dude. It's funny, how people used to remember their cases, even from 20 years ago. It's funny to read comments, like everyone mention it in comments. But even more funny are the ones, that remember case from 1995 486 computer, and so, that means 26 years into the past. Not sure, why I find it funny, but it always put smile on my face. Would probably didn't recognize my 486 case from 1996-1999 thought (in 1998-1999 used to Pentium 1, but in same case)

    Via chipset had a bad setback issue . Whatever you do (latest driver , or change the gpu) it was running the gpu in agp2x mode . The chipset was faulty . So the motherboard you are using should have the same issue . The best chipset for tualatin cpus was the intels I815E chipset .

  • @petrapackova2424

    @petrapackova2424

    The chipset is not faulty. It's Nvidia's drivers that force this because early 694X revisions had compatibility problems in 4x mode. CE steppings should be problem free.

    A later driver is going to have poorer CPU performance, not better. Thid is especially true for old games based on quake and half-life engines which use immediate mode rendering; one draw call per polygon for level geometry. This is not just slow but tends to be jittery. Later games likely work better with less bugs on newer drivers. There was also some cheating and controversies back in the day e.g. ”Brilinear” optimizations. This means a driver can perform faster also because it is reducing quality.
