Building Massive Hawk Enclosure | Carol Catches a few Nuisance Animals😬
Ойын-сауық
I spent a solid week creating this massive enclosure for Carol the Red Tailed Hawk. In Falconry, we refer to these enclosures as "Mews". They can be constructed in many different ways. I designed mine to allow Carol plenty of space to free loft. She loves the extra space and the high ceilings. The food hatch we added has also made a huge difference.

If i got another hawk id probably name him Carl. What would you name a Hawk if you had one? 😀

Max curious what you do when you travel. Since you like to do that a lot and also with work. Most of the time, falconry owners can't travel. It stresses the bird since they do not have their normal handler. Thanks. Great Video.

Probably name it Maxx. Keep an eye on your dog because once they get quilled by a porcupine it won’t be the last.

So raw with Carol feeding on the injured chics but it’s nature’s survival of the fittest and no resource being wasted 👍👌😋

You may consider adding a safety chamber with a secondary door. Carol seems really chill and reliable, but just in case, and especially for future birds. Dont want them getting loose with mews jesses on! Great video, as usual :)
17:36 Carol decides to go say hi. 17:41 Max gets surprised Lol.
"DO NOT ENTER, HAWK INSIDE" sign really needing on the door. Also secure the food door so she cant open it.

Not Sweets Lol, especially because he installed an exterior lock instead of door knob. I’m pretty sure hack boards are made so bird can’t open from inside.
17:36 ....That moment when we all see Carol launch and all start yelling at the monitor "turn around she's coming"
How great that Carol can fly free and get all the exercise she wants!
“OH! A fake duck” idk why I laughed so hard 😂
Better coyote proof Carol's new crib! That's going to be awesome for her! I'm hooked on "The Pond Guy" videos you should make her a little pond to catch fish in.
Love to watch hawks hunt around the house ... unbelievable to watch you 2 bond ! Great stuff
Very happy for you and the family.

I thought I saw Carol jump off her perch when you where walking away, glad you didn't get a talon in the back😂
It turned out beautiful. Blends in really well and she has lots of room.
I am also a falconer and I know I am not your sponsor and you should always listen to your sponsor, but you should get something over the concrete in the enclosure. It will dull her talons and it will not be good for the next hunting season. I am not trying to make you feel bad or anything but I am trying to help for the safety of Carol. But listen to what your your sponsor has to say. If he says not to worry about it then please disregard this comment. I think it is great that you are doing falconry. We need more falconers in the world. But good luck with Carol she looks like she will be a great hunter.

I 100% agree with you. I have since added a bark substrate similar to I was using in the last enclosure. It resist mold and doesnt irritate her at all or have any adverse effects on her talons.

Maxx Powell that is great. I think you are doing a great job with Carol. I recently lost my Red-tailed hawk named Banshee (he didn’t die). But he is now in the wild again. But I now have a new bird named Valkyrie. It can be really tough being a falconer. But just keep up the good work.

Thanks man I appriciate that. Yeah the community can be pretty difficult at times but I love the sport and enjoy every minute with Carol
Yay!! Another Carol update!! That's cool seeing her winning at hunting her own food. She might fatten up doing mousing chores over time. That rotted timber needed to go, it will spread to surrounding wood. If you leave it in place, all of the rotten wood needs to be dug out and removed, then sealed with epoxy. Any wood making contact with ground/concrete should be pressure treated lumber. You should be able to "cap it" with natural lumber to keep Carol from being affected by the treated lumber. Have some slope for those sills where you have the "turf" on them. That material will hold moisture, promoting rot (if exposed to the weather). Hope to see Carol and meet you at Overland next week.
Congrats on the new home. Love me some new Carol videos. Can't wait for more videos. Great job building all that with your little helper. 👍
i hope this channel blows up. so cool. such a neat look at falconry. i never understood how it worked until now. it's actually not terrible like i used to think. you've opened my eyes brother!
I really love hawks and I want one but I'm not getting one because I know I wont be able to take care of it properly
Beautiful place you guys picked, Max. Truly hope things continue to go well. Carol is looking strong as ever. Great video!
Another great video Max. Love how things are coming along at the new compound. Keep em coming!
Carol gets a new home and a warm meal. Nice.👍
You're enclosure looks great man and it being sooo much bigger for Carol. Those flight views are INCREDIBLE, what a fantastic bird! Super stoked for you and you're family with the new house and land...
I would recommend a 2 door entry. Or a safety door so she cant fly out.
Sick vid!! Get some branches from trees on your property and put them in carols cage! I’m sure she’ll like it :) excited for the new house!
Great video congrats on the new home wish you the best of luck with it. Was great to see you and Carol together again can't wait to see more videos 😄
Great to see Carol settling in and great job
Her enclosure looks great, you did an awesome job on it. I love videos like this, keep them coming!
Love this vid max. Just love watch birds of pray.

Loving the new digs man! That’s a super nice enclosure for Carol, always awesome watching her fly. Keep it up man!
hi from Scotland happy new house it looks fab all the best , p.s happy to see your video off the hawk again
yay! Carol video! enclosure looks stellar. great content brother
That framing looked good to me! Don't worry about firestops, you only need firestops when you are going from one floor to another. the main point of a firestop is to stop the draft if there is a fire - the draft will pull the fire up to the second floor quickly, especially in older balloon framed houses.
Awesome video Man! So excited for you and your family on your new endeavors!
I like your new place. I'll bet Carol will be happy there !
Carol had a nice snack
Great to see Carole. That's great she's got a new big house too. Can't wait to see her hunt your new land.

These are the best vids you put out. Love them

Awesome! Like your hawk videos
Awesom Matt just awesom👍
Lmao... those damn Porcupines, our english setter went into a thick bramble of juniper and came out with at least seventy quills stuck in his face, after about 20 or so pulled out he quit moving and just laid still while we removed the rest. He was tuckered out.

Wow 70! That's insane! I got a lot of criticism for pulling them out my self but I honesty think it's the best thing for them to just get them out ASAP. Bodhi eventually just let me pull them too once he realized that I was helping.
LOVE the colors man!
Congrats on the new house and love your Carol videos! I'm a vegetarian and a rehab/rescue wildlife volunteer and even I know that you did the right thing feeding your hawk (the lizard too). You are an inspiration and very proud of your success in life to date (and still to come :)
awesome new property, there you can do every project and have an awesome family time
Great job on Carol's enclosure. She has a lot of room to move in, with great views! Feel bad about your dogs run-in with the porcupine. Ouch! Great work so far on the barn.

Good that she gets light
Nice job on the enclosure.
Geeze! 30 acres of land? Good for you! I wish you the very best.
I admire firefighters so much don’t think I’ve ever seen 1 firefighter stop working firefighting In The day rebuilding a barn at night plus editing that’s hard work man
This is the only channel i let all the ads play thru. Lol keep it up!
Way to go man good job
The enclosure looks awsome
Omg that’s god country where you at look at all that blue sky and puffy clouds. You did a great job with that barn. Nice very nice

Happy hawk! You did a great job framing up her enclosure. She'll love hunting around there. Thanks for sharing another "Carol" video! Make sure you check the dog's mouth especially their roofs? Sometimes they get them stuck in there and broken off. I hope your black dog is a fast learner and doesn't take on another porcupine.
i love how low she flyes to your glove
That was some bird action
You are my favorite KZreadr!
17:41 EPIC!!!!!!!
I really really don't like starlings. Every year, they destroy my garden by biting leaves off...... Until now. I made a live trap with suet bait, and now I feed the starlings to my chickens.

great vlog! Loving the new place, and all the space for activities! can't wait for the dirtbike/razor track! I was hoping carol was going to hunt the birds in the grass! glad she ate those damn starling birds! maybe you could expansion foam in the cracks in her in-closure around the floor, so you can toss live feeder mice in for her!
That is cool.

You can learn anything online! Thanks man. 👊
Hey Max, Carol's enclosure looks great! Don't beat yourself up too much about the baby birds. I agree with you, not wanting to encourage Starlings to populate your farm. She will be able to maybe do some hunting in her enclosure. Win/Win! I live near Sacramento, CA, I have family in WA near Shelton. You guys seem to have some exciting ways to make the house become your home. What a great place to raise your family. Could you maybe talk Desiree into doing a video on what some has planned and or some of her hobbies? Hope you don't mind me starting to try to comment more. Keep doing what you do!

Yeah I'll talk to Des to see if she wants to do an episode about herself! Shes always got some interesting things going on too. She is very creative and enjoys writing, making soap and perfume and now shes getting into gardening.
Bring the waterholes to the roof to test for leaks.
Absolutely love that you recycled for circle of life instead of letting them die slowly and then throwing them away or something!
I can't get the song 'momma had a baby and it's head popped off' out of my head.
Grats on the house bro! Seems you threw that enclosure together pretty quick for someone who “doesn’t know what they’re doin.” Hell id still be tryna draw the damn thing. I’m curious as to how heavy the feed door is though? Might need a latch, don’t underestimate the Carol! Don’t forget to live.
Good use of the birds. I raised a sparrow hawk and feed him pigeons from our flying birds
Carol scared the shit out of me and i was just watching the video ahha!
I never wanted this video to end!
Carol is becoming quite the predator. Those lizards are all over at my house. I think she will be catching rabbits soon enough.

Carl is good and yes she needs a partner to share with in her new mansion :) Excellent job Maxx!
Mmmmm baby birds
Great video! The enclosure looks pretty good! I know I asked before but when Carol is out, what keeps her from taking off...ya know like when she flew to the peak on your house...how do you know she wont stay there...or fly off to some other tree tops and tell you "Adios Amigo"??. Especially when she hears other birds! One more quick question..Does Carol need heat in her enclosure in the late fall or winter?? Have a great day! Dan. P.S. If I was to name a Male hawk, it would be "Alan" or " Alda" who played the character Hawkeye on the old MASH series.
