Gubbings or Greebles. As you build stuff up, make sure you remember to decorate the MDF so it doesn’t look like MDF. Put a control panel there, a ventilation port there. That kind of stuff. It will build the dimensionality of the piece.
Add scattered terrain that would fit a more industrial vibe, thinking small barrels maybe piles of trash, piping running along across the sections of the board. also closed hatches, or doors along some of the sides might go to spruce up and make the Ford feel like there's more to it beyond the playable area.
For my two cents I’d say add a bunch of wires running along walls and draped along the bridge.

Broken guitar strings have good texture for this, along with string, embroidery thread, and wire of course 😁
Trash, toys, terrain-kits & 3d-prints, corrugated corrugated cardboard. Use it all on this board. Build sheds. and small temples
Have you tried shopping in your local charity shops at all? I find all kinds of truly awesome stuff in the ones around where I live, and have found so many old super-squirter water guns that I've chopped up and made into sci-fi terrain (As well as the "Big At-Choo" Ork tank for a friend, made from a GW Baneblade chassis and added a slightly altered super-squirter rifle for the HUGE main gun. Now it's finished, she's rampaging across the table top, scaring the life out of her opponents, and demanding I build more like it for her, too :-D). I've also made some huge terrain pieces out of all the old plastic toy buildings and vehicles that I found in the toy bins of the charity shops, which have been donated to a local game club for under 16's, and they are VERY happy with what I made. I'm now building a massive, multi-layer, 6'x12' board for their larger WH40k games, and they've allowed me to use their clubhouse as a workshop in payment, so everyone is happy. I also have a "Glamorous Assistant" come into my sphere of weird and wonderful modelling life to help me as I go along. She's no Willow, but there's room for plenty of improvement yet :-D Loving seeing you back full of passion for the hobby again, and so glad to see your awesome kids involved at times with you, too. Keep posting these videos, and thanks for promoting your friend and his work, too, as I'd not heard of him, so will now check him and his products out for myself, and go from there :-) Love to all around you
I like the use of the "Come back down..." to segue between camera shots. Can you poke out "door" shapes, that a marked on the walls, to create more routes through the tiles.
Statues! Whether some regular-size minis painted up like stone or steel or some dollar store action figures or something, those are usually featured in 40k stuff and could help bridge the upper and lower aesthetics together.
Mel, ref 15:25, two double height GW Silo's (verticle stack) and one single horizontal with gubbins and greebles, should fill the 1'x1' blank board. I would also suggest any 2'x2' interconnecting pipework fit a vent on the end and create a connection shroud or sleave.
Hoping you get going with this truly in 2024, the 40k/necromunda nutcases would be all over it

Its my next project mate
I'd seal and paint MDF first. Maybe add some greeblies. Then figure what plastic scatter terrain pieces to add. Color scheme depends on what you feel is best. No pressure, Mel! Enjoy the moment.
I’m curious to see a full 40k board built this way. Definitely not a board for vehicles tho, unfortunately. I love the idea of a board like this with roads wide enough to at least accommodate tanks going one way

@@TheTerrainTutor ya, I get that. Just saying a “block” board like this that can be built and rearranged with others like it that can accommodate vehicles on the lower levels would be nice to see. For verticality and armor in the same game
You didn't magnetize your GW plastics? That's part of the fun. As for greebling: cables, small diameter pipes, vents, scifi-ish bits made from pen caps, bottle lids, broken up squirty bottle heads and pound shop toys, etc. Utilise the unused bits of MDF sprue and toothpicks to make panels, framing, gauges, etc. Wire in some battery-powered fairy lights for mood lighting. Stick leftover bits from the GW kits to the MDF to integrate them.
Thanks Mel another amazing video.
Great to see you back at it and happy Mel. Cant wait to see how this project progresses!
Good to see you're still going strong!

Good to see you in my comments btw buddy ;-)
Thank you.
I want to see more of this! I keep checking for the update :D
Looking great Mel,more than I can cope with ,so will stay with building my Normandy board
The GW plastics are all Sector Mechanicus by the looks of it so maybe see if you can 3D print some Adeptus Mechanicus symbols to cover up the plain MDF walls. If you really want to Grimdark it up, you could make some door servitors from the torsos and heads of human minis (I'd use zombies), then mount them on the walls and attach wires between the stumps of their missing limbs and whatever bit of tech they're controlling. Whatever you do can't wait to see the finished product.

Love that idea!
I think the scatter pieces at lower level, "the streets", should have some wrecks to hide behind. Either you keep them as scatter pieces that fit anywhere and keep the boards clean there or have them integrated but fixed. Game play should perhaps improve though never played kill team

I agree, crates and boxes (especially 1st Person Shooter exploding crates and barrels) could be fun; also, they could be kept separate from the tile to allow for more layouts.

@@euansmith3699 I was thinking more in line with proper vehicles and stuff. Toy cars destroyed with clippers and black spray paint :)
Those are some cool tiles. Had a look at their site and i need to place an order for my own kill team board. Thanks Mel!
I'm looking forward to you painting these!! Thank you for the video!
Cant wait to see what you come up with!
Going to very much enjoy watching this!
Great video! I would love to see an update on the progress when you have the time ;)
Nice! This is gonna be a great series 👌
great job and a lovely little mover 😂😂🤠🤠👍
This is gonna be the best Kill Team board ever. Awesome stuff, Mel!
industrial pipes for sure, perhaps some height on original box part looks good so far
Love your skills; love your show!
Mel, adding 3D printed "gribblies" to MDF terrain does absolute wonders! Take a look at Mortian site for ideas, it has a section of 3D printable stuff dedicated for GW's own Zone Mortalis terrain.

If this is a combat zone, I'd totally have some sort of tank or walker half-spilled into one of the lower areas and wrecked (though that might block it off, which could be sub-optimal).
Looking SWEET BRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a TON of mantic sci fi terrain I'm planing on using for a star wars Mustifar build (HOPFULLY) this summer!!!! I printed around 400 droids so far
Nice! You are the best
Build you two or three grain silos.with some catwalks.
Great video! Maybe add another 6x6 onto the 12x12 for more verticality. Looking forward to the next one :)
Top vid mate.
Love you!
Mel's high level bitbox.
I have 6 of these on order to make a KT board also :) Though I won’t be permanently attaching any terrain to top as we play mission layouts also. Will be lighting the tunnels and I found terrain crate starship doors to add in places to break up the flat areas a bit
Hi Mel. If you're looking for some sci-fi scatter pieces, then check out Dungeons & Lasers Sci-Fi Customization Bits Miniature Set. It includes various vents, ammo & equipment crates, free standing computer display units, a medical bio-bed & separate manipulator 'arm', nuclear waste containers, light fittings and loads more.

out of stock in the UK mate but good shout!
It would be great terrain for judge Dredd
I'd try to hide the grid a bit, fill some of the lines to create larger panels, cut lines between the lines to make smaller panels, cover them in texture or paint to hide the obvious grid. It might not matter in the game you are currently playing. But it will in games where you shouldn't be able to pre measure. You don't really want players to be able to look at the board and easily work out the distances.
@TheTerrainTutor

Shouldn't be a problem once I've got it full painted up, but yeah, something to be conscious of.
Really like the uncertainscenery mdf kits, but I'm across the pond, so haven't built up enough funds to order.
Hardest part will be pulling the MDF into the upper layers. The texture stippling will do a great job tying different aspects together. Will you be using ash, rust or mars sand as the unifying theam? Love seeing this stage of a build (My personal favorite)!!!

cheap l.e.d Christmas lights from B&M/wilkos would be cool.

I second that, the stuff he turns into his buildings is unbelievable!
I'd would be thinking about abandoned street vender carts, recently evacuated s[ace.
Break an old computer up or power supply. Use the wires, the fans, chips, capacitors,... as gubbins. Then 3d print or buy shittons of skulls (or get it out of GW terrain, I got quite a bit out of killteam terrain). If you don't have a skull or skull motive every square inch you're not doing it grimdark enough :P
Have a look at rapid table top or zorpazorp's old KZread post for necromunda and kill team terrain, respectively they mashed up all sorts of GW terrain. May give you some ideas?
This MDF table looks fantastic is it possibly compatible with the TT combat MDF as well or is there a slight measurement discrepancy between the two companies?

@@TheTerrainTutor thanks buddy & can’t wait to see how this project evolves as I’m very much thinking of possibly doing the same thing for Necromunda 👍🏼
Excluding the pre-made plastic terrain which is a whole 'nother ball game; how much would you say it costs per 2x2 tile of MDF?
@mattisanimation2373
2 жыл бұрын
The 1x1 tiles are £40 each from Uncertain Scenery, so about £160 per 2x2. They do have some cheaper ranges though as well (which imo actually have some cooler tile options) which are £15 - £20 per 1x1 tile. So budget you could get a similar style 2x2 tile for like £60 - £80 quid
Sorry for asking something that was probably said in the video; how does this compare to the "actual" killteam board size? Would a 2x3 of these be the right size?
@HayleySnailey
2 жыл бұрын
The officially recommended board size for Kill Team is 22 by 30 inches I believe, but I imagine that going slightly larger with 24 by 36 inches would still be perfectly playable and enjoyable.
You can never use too much plastic glue! *g*

Ohh. Have the tank look like it fell over and is spilled it’s contents all over years ago.
Exposed tubing and electronic panels. And the Star Wars method of thing, thing, blank space where thing was but is only a rust stain now, thing.
