Building Cabin in the Woods Inside 55 sq ft Building Furniture from Firewood

We built a small cabin in the woods with interior finished dimensions of 88 inches square because it would force us to be creative in how we used the space. In this video we complete the interior which includes finishing the floors, walls, building a ladder, installing a wood stove, finishing our loft and bed, building our furniture, and finishing our kitchen.
Thank you for watching and we hope you enjoy!

    Hey guys, Your cabin is awesome. I didn't see an explosive gas detector in the video. As a retired fire fighter of 26 years, can I advise you to install one near the floor level given that you are storing and using propane in a very small compartment and operating a wood heat just meters away. Propane or L.P. gas is heavier than air and finds the lowest level under the air in this case the floor of the cabin which also happens to support the wood heater and which its air intake is open to the room. Should the unfortunate happen and there is a gas leak, you have potentially set yourselves up for an explosive environment which could prove to be fatal. A gas detector may give you enough warning to vacate the cabin to safety if the conditions for a gas explosion are present. Also the smoke detectors should be installed about 30cm / 12 inches away from corners, as this is a dead air space and the smoke may not reach the detector due to air pressurisation from the thermal buoyancy of the smoke. I'm only mentioning this because your cabin is very small and has only one exit so if the worst happens you wont have much time to respond. Just looking out for your safety. Good luck you have done so well with your cabin build.

  • @2withnature

    @2withnature

    Incredible workmanship.. for the both of you. Suggestion: place some tin roof skirting around the cabin.. it will do 2 things.. 1 protect you from cold darfts blowing under the flooring.. no cold feet in winter... 2nd it will keep critters away. or alternatively.. you can place large size rocks from the property and place it as skirting.

  • @2withnature

    @2withnature

    Love how you used the battery pack as a hammer -- not necessarily great for the tool, but fun to watch =;^) Also, what an interesting fact about screws and nails -- guess my tendency to use both all these years "just because" through indecision is justified.

    The screw gun battery hammer is indeed a classic hack. And yes, definitely is justified. That's why we kept it small. It's our first time so we wanted small mistakes.

    I just love small cottages like this. you can actually buy prefab 10x10 cottages with lofts and insulation around here. And there are just so many ways you can kit them out. Wood, diesel, or propane for heating? or combination there of. Are you going to use a prefab power like a net zero or such for power, or build your own solar power system. are you going to use wood stove, propane or camp stove (butane, fuel oil) for cooking? or are you going to use electric powered of solar? USB, 12v or 120v power? there are tons of 12v RV stuff you can fit into small cabins... including toilets and sinks. for example - wayfare has 28.35" L x 16.53" W Portable Handwash Station with 5.3 Gallons Portable Toilet. other stores have similar items mostly based off of RV setups wood stoves though are fun, and you can go from cast iorn pot belly, little grizzly stoves to big cook stoves... mine the btu though, you don't want to heat yourself out of your cabin. LOL. don't put a big 56000 BTU into a 8x8 cabin. on the flip side you might wnt to avoid trying using camp stoves, they are not meant for heavy constant use, so can "burn through" if you are using them for days on end. but this is the sort of place you want to just hang a hammock inside, watch the snow falling out side while listening to the fire.
