My favorite anime of all time, I've watched it so many times, and actually the Light Novel is even better, mostly because with the anime you have to compromise on a lot of things. I enjoy to see people trying to figure out all the subtexts, which is not easy on a first watch, especially later on. Without spoiling anything, I can say that so far you've impressed me, I'll definetly keep watching.

I just discovered you and now love your analysis for Oregairu, OnK, and Frieren. My older sibling is also going for their PhD in psych so I think this is very interesting to watch 😊I have read also somewhere that the author of Oregairu studied philosophy, but cannot confirm. Thanks for the video!

50:07 Thats a rough fucking question. I feel like i would be emotionally much more compatible with Yui,but intellectually more with Yukino Both are very fascinating, complex and flawed characters, and their depth is something that has been established in this episode. The interaction with Yumiko (blonde girl) did a fantastic job in characterizing everyone deeply while still staying at surface level. Just brilliant. But yeah, these two are so complex that deciding is hard. Though if we are realistic,it would be probably Yui,considering that i am always more attracted to extroverted and energetic girls You gotta love Zaimokuza as well. He's a chad

"In the depths of my soul, where darkness and light intertwine, there exists a tale of complex bonds and hidden truths, a narrative that serves as a cautionary tale about the intricate dance with and longing for solitude. It is more than mere affinity; it is a mirror to the shadows and light within me, illuminating the path of understanding and companionship." I tried to say “I like this anime” in a chunnie way. I even brought out the semicolon lmao

Oregairu has been an influential anime for me. When I first got into the medium it was among the first shows I watched and for probably obvious reasons I resonated quite a lot with it back then. It's really interesting lookig back on it now with some distance. Especialy in a more analytical format like this.

I hope you will do all of it or at least the important part, I think you have a lot of juice of extract from it. (sorry for the bad english, not my main langage) Really excellent stuff.

In season 2 and 3 it will start getting serious the comedy aspect will be lowered, though the banter/understanding between yukino and 8man will get better and the depth of character and their history will be revealed.

@@psyculturists I'm a decent listener, so I guess I'll try to be that one person. Anyway Mr. Wizard, I'm curious if you're exclusive only to analyze Animes. I have a suggestion and I personally believe it'll be worth your time, but I'm not sure if it will garner views if you make a video/stream analysis on it, or you can just watch the trailer or a portion of it in your own and decide if it's worthwhile.

When it comes to making connections and building friend groups, I was in a very similar situation to Hachiman. I didn't understand why my interactions with other people feel so unpleasant. I didn't understand why I absolutely hate the parts of friendship that most people enjoy and look forward to. Since I was the common denominator, I felt that there was something wrong with me. Family members pushed the idea that there was something wrong with me as well. Imagine what that does to your sense of self-esteem and self-worth... Finding out about what it means to have ADHD and be on the autistic spectrum completely changed how I view things. I understand now why I hate certain experiences. I understand why people see me as weird. Some things about me I can change, some things I can't. I can accommodate some of my behaviors in a way that others will not dislike it. And the things I will never like I can simply avoid. I'm making this comment to tell others the importance of getting a diagnostic. Seeking therapy and learning about mental health. A small change in perspective can completely change how life feels for you.

Thanks for you analysis it was very interesting to listen to. The classroom scene is very unfair towards Yumiko. At this point in time we knew nothing about Yui's and Yumiko's relationship or Yumiko's personality, while we have knowledge about our main cast. We can only see this scene from the perspective of Hachiman, Yukino and Yui, but we cannot put ourselves into Yumiko's shoes yet. Thus it is easier for us to forgive Yui's weakness of not speaking her mind, as we were told of it in episode 1, than to forgive Yumiko's insisting behavior. When you pulled out the wheel of power and control, I thought it would end up as your first major misinterpretation in the show. But that 'probably not' turned it only into a minor misinterpretation. It is a minor misinterpretation In my view at least, as neither of the 2 options you provided seem to fit Yumiko's intent and personality. With the lack of background information that is completely normal I would say. You are the expert though, so my view might be wrong in that part. What I am confident in is that Yumiko never used that "we're friends right?" to extort a drink from Yui. Yui only said she would go somewhere, and Yumiko assumed she would return quickly and thus asked for a drink on her way back. The "we're friends, right?" was in my opinion only related to Yui not saying where she would go as Yui repeatedly had left them already. Fun fact in regards to demanded drinks: In the cut material from the first episode it is Yukino who ordered a drink from Hachiman when he said he's getting a drink for himself, while Yukino and Yui talked about Yui's request to the Service Club. He also got a drink for Yui without her asking/ordering, because "buying just 2 things out of 3 would have been awkward". Fun fact #2: the pry and poking by Yukino towards Hachiman is at points way harsher at the start than the anime shows (due to time constraints I guess). In their very first talk after Hiratsuka-sensei left them briefly alone. Excerpt page from page 20+.: Yukinoshita clenched her fist as she spoke passionately. "First, since you clearly feel so uncomfortable here, let's give you a place to belong. Did you know? Just having somewhere you belong can save you from a tragic end like becoming a star and burning out of existence." "'The Nighthawk's Star'? How obscure can you get?" Someone with lesser academic prowess than myself, ranked third in Japanese would never have gotten that reference. Plus, I like that story, so I remember it well. It's so sad, it actually brings a tear to my eye. Especially the part where nobody likes him. Yukinoshita's eyes widened in surprise at my retort. "That's unexpected. I didn't think an average, mediocre high school boy would be reading Kenji Miyazawa." "Did you slip in a remark implying my inferiority?" "I'm sorry. That was going too far. It would be correct to say below average." "You meant you were going too far in the positive direction?! Didn't you hear the part about me being ranked third in my grade?" "Bragging over a mere third-place ranking alone marks you as an inferior individual. Trying to demonstrate your cognitive abilities through your grades in a single class alone is imbecilic." How rude could you get? She was treating a boy she'd only just met as an inferior being. The only other person I can think of who does that is a Saiyan prince. "But 'The Nighthawk Star' suits you. The appearance of the nighthawk in particular." "Are you saying I'm disfigured?" "I couldn't say that. The truth can be too painful to hear sometimes after all..." "You basically just said it..." Yukinoshita's expression turned serious as she patted me on the shoulder. "Don't avert your eyes from the truth. Look at reality... and a mirror." ['The Nighthawk Star' is a short story by Kenji Miyaswa, about an ugly bird bullied so badly and rejected so thoroughly that he ultimately dies and becomes a star in the night sky.] That scene goes on a bit more and Yukino stopped when Hachiman 'pleaded to her on the verge of tears'. I mentioned fun fact #2, because Yukino is the one with a sharp tongue in classroom scene as well. The only one throwing insults at others was her. Looking forward to the next time. Thank you.

Mr.Psyculturists, Sir, if Yui is afraid of not being good enough wouldn't that mean she's in Avoidant-fearful? Because she "strongly fears rejection". She's also trying her best not only to fit in and for belonging, but to avoid conflict or abuse, wouldn't that make her "more dependent in relationships"? Thank you for your amazing videos, and can't wait for you to see the next episodes of zom 100

The phrase "This is a safe space" has always felt threatening as it aims to disarm. As this is the Internet and I am a random voice within it, may I suggest Ed says "This is a therapeutic space". Therapy is often too challenging to self to be PRECEIVED as safe, and how something is perceived often subverts context. Who needs the soapbox next?
