Building and living on our BOAT during a STORM - Sailing Yabá 209
Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 209
In this episode of our boat restoration, we are trying to get ready to go sailing while facing the daily obstacles of boat life.
Of course, we always try to make room for the typical "smelling the flowers along the way", which in boat language is more like fishing or going for a kayak session with the doggos. We hope you enjoy watching our journey of growing and learning how to be sea people.
We still can't get over how cute (and practical) the dogs' life jackets are!
If you think your dog would love it as much as ours does, you can get one here: alnk.to/e76FPlY

💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

I was the captain of a smal,l 200 ton, research vessel for the University of Georgia for'12 years. I have sailed and worked on boats from yachts to commercial fishing vessels for countless years. I'm just saying, "I've been around boats." I have loved watching the two of you as you are doing such a wonderful job on Yaba. Your attention to safety is inspiring to see. But . . . on time-line 5:30 of this video, you terrified me. I certainly have made my share of mistakes working on vessels. I have also been shocked to see watermen, much more skilled and experienced than I, make unbelievable mistakes. "It happens!" When you were standing over while working on the small table saw on the top of the cabin, I was hit with a chilling vision. I could imagine your feet slipping some how and you landing chest first on to the table saw. All I want to say is, "Please watch out for that table saw. Table saws are evil and out to get you." Your devoted supporter, Sim

Absolutely agree, how many fingers do you need to sail Yaba Ben, answer, all 10. With small strips of wood close to the fance the chances of the wood kicking back and instantly dragging your hand into the blade are about 50/50 and worse on a moving boat. Cut some push sticks with your jig saw and always use them when your hand is closer than a foot from the blade.

and a passing boat could cause a wake shaking the boat, using that table saw on board is pretty brave and scary, i agree there.
Love you guys, always look forward to Sundays! You both look so happy too! Gods speed, happy trails
Always a joy!

well i think the cabin roof is way to high and the cabin to long, i would have shortend it and make it halve as high. But still the ship looks great.
Such a groovy and beautiful sailing vessel.
Ben you have turnd into a very good craftsman ver the last few years you should be very proud of your achievments
I think this is your best video yet! Everyone seems happy, relaxed and ready for life.

Yep, one slip can cost you fingers!👴🤟😨 Worst of it is when you then ordering beer, holding up your hand wanting five, you will get three or for cold one's, and at best 1or 2 small ones aside.👴🤷♂
Your black dog has quite the personality! Very intelligent puppy!
Yaba looks so solid, She looks so ready for your journey, God Bless
Shocking, how graceful the lines of Yaba are when she is on the water,
when you moterd Yaba to the yard I was in awe, when the ship yard were inspecting Yaba I couldn't believe you moterd all that way But now i'm so impressed on how far you've come you are inspirational enjoy you've earned it

I have commented on this 3 times already, he never learned to do that at a place with real shipwrights.
@Chr.U.Cas2216

😱 Additionally he once again stands in front of the table saw and leaned/bowed over the running sawblade instead of kneeling down. It's already a way too dangerous and wrong behaviour on dry land but on a rolling/rocking boat it's simply challenging fate extremely. 🙈 Best regards, luck and health in particular.
The shrimp heads would be good bait particularly if there's a trail of them through the water column. ;)
You guys look happy and content! ITS A YACHT ,YOUR DREAM HAPPING., have a great week😊❤
Three years of learning from the Shipwrights have taught Ben well ❤️👍🏼. I’d be confident in any repair he does 😊

Those shrimp looked delicious! I know you aren’t a cooking channel, but I love catching glimpses of what you eat. Thanks! 😎🥰
Whenever we got shrimp on board, I liked to fry them with onion and garlic, and when almost done, stir in some eggs for a tasty breakfast or midday meal. Topped with some fried tomatoes and coconut milk, it always seemed like an exotic dish. Butter, garlic and capers with a dash of white wine made a nice sauce too!... 😛
Great video cuzzy What an awesome experience!
Yaaawn
Que alegria ver meu catamarã Jó, que está em uma poita no cascalho e apareceu nas imagens aéreas. Abraços casal.
That spear anchor might hold the dinghy. And maybe Jaba, if you gat a rocky bottom and light winds. That type of anchors are used for fishing nets, not for boats. This heavy boat really needs a modern anchor like a mantus or a rocna
The trophy fishing channel.🤣😂😃
Hi my lovely Yaba family .... i feel the same way.... no sunday is complete without a Yaba update....good to see yoy guy's are doing alricht and getting setteled in the new home and lifestyle!!! much greetings and love from friesland....max....😉😊💛💙..

Every week I think...what a beautiful boat!!!!😍😍😍 and the night with the lights...mama mia!!!!🤣😂😍😍😍
The nicest thing about Sunday is watching MP. !!! Little by little YABÁ is getting better. I love your hull illumination looks beautiful. Can’t wait to see you over a coral reef It will be spectacular and again. Thanks for letting us be apart of your life…. And MP … one word … adorable…The Queen of YABÁ😊. Keep plugging away don’t give up
I wouldn’t use sealant to keep windows from leaking as at some point you may need to remove said window and one that is “Glued” on will be a bear to remove without damaging it. Make a gasket to keep the water out.
Ship is looking awesome. In all that space find a spot to secure your table saw. I found useing a cordless skillsaw far easier and just as precise. Easy to charge batteries with solar. Just be careful! Your skill set has improved in these years immensely. Good to see.
Take it from someone who knows, You can fix anything AS YOU GO I waited until we had the "last project completed" after three years of upfitting -- and my wife had an accident and we never left I've spoken to dozens of would-be sailors who have had similar experiences Just go!!! Fix as you go or it may never happen
You’re getting to be a pro with that tape and sika. .
Che bella la vita di bordo, dopo tre anni di duro lavoro godetevi il vostro lungo viaggio per il mondo, se un giorno verrete in Italia vi aspetto nella mia amata isola di Sardegna 👍👍💕💕💕🇮🇹

If you can keep the smaller fish, you can cut them up or run a hook through them and use them as bait, but you may need a bigger pole and line for anything much longer than your forearm.
Good bit of rain at the start of the video, great way to do a different start off. Great video. Have a ripper you guys!
I really can’t believe that it’s been 3 years that I have been following you for 🤯 must be something special about you that keeps me coming back for more!! Congratulations again on your achievement and all the hard work you’ve done 🤙👏👏👏

The great thing about your years in the boatyard is that you have a wide range of skills to swiftly carry out repairs.
I hope you always becarefull when you do some things

Would be a really good idea to put flashing (aluminum) window rain guards over your superstructure (side of boat) windows. They will start to rott along the bottom within 2yrs.
