💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

The power of a positive attitude goes a long way.
A couple of Starlink tips: 1. Disconnect the dish from the stand and cable, run the cable up through the hole in the middle of the stand, plug into dish and set the dish back into the stand. This avoids the right angle kink where the cable comes out. 2. Mid term plan … Watch KZread videos on disabling the positioning motor, do it and mount the dish flat/horizontal. This avoids loss of signal when the dish tries to move to compensate for rolling seas (not necessary). 3. Long term plan … get kit to convert Starlink to 12VDC which reduces amount of power consumed when running off the inverter.

I liked your comment but don’t know what the hell you’re talking about 🤷♂️.
Okay. Have watched you guys and your progress from the start. Love what you’ve done and continue doing. Sigh, how do I say this delicately? BEN PUT ON EAR PROTECTION WHEN USING POWER TOOLS! 72 years old now with over fifty years of carpentry and building experience and I really regret the fact that I didn’t take care of my hearing better. You don’t know what you are missing until it’s gone. Young and invincible attitude doesn’t cut it. Speaking from experience when I say please protect your hearing! Love watching all of you and the progress you have made with Yaba.

❤I agree completely. Hearing aids are expensive and a total pain! Plus, only the most expensive ones compensate for different amounts of hearing loss across different frequencies.

Definitely. I regret not using hearing protection much over my life. Would have made a huge difference. Hearing loss and tinnitus are not fun. But not just ear protection. Proper support of what you are working on is well worth it. A hand, finger or arm can be lost so quickly and easily.

Starlink is great, but their router is weak. Works way better and faster if you order their router delete adapter and send the signal through a wifi6 or wifi7 mesh router.

You are really funny. You built the boat from scratch on land for 3 years, but you did not build a toilet, now you are trying to make a toilet at sea, you are great.
it is amazing to realize you just cut plywood with a skillsaw/circular saw that was plugged into the sun!!

I’d like to add to the call for better safety preparedness. If the motor/engine doesn’t start and bad weather rolls the seas and blows you into whatever is out there in your path, boat could capsize; motor toward island, fog closes in and if motor doesn’t crank right up and you have no survival gear to help you. Y’all need to have the Plan B ready to use. Life is short and it gets shorter doing without a care for your safety. I’m not saying to live in fear, I’m saying cover your ass better before the pooh happens to hit the fan. There are too many things that exist beyond your control. Be safe to continue the dream please.

i am sure i am not the only one who thinks yes you are bloody doing it, exotic location, boat, pets, people. Its why we are watching, technicalities like sails and sailing, yes, but still your bloody doing it! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 ✊🏻🏴
I can remember back a year or so ago waiting for the day when you could enjoying yourselves scuba diving from Yabá! That is now being realized! Isn't it great! I'm guessing you will be remaining in that area for quite awhile as you finish off things on the boat to the point you can go back and offer your shipwrights a nice day of sailing on the boat they built! I love seeing your dogs enjoying a better life! I saw a bandage on Caillou's right hand! Did he step on something in the boat yard? Did we see MP's mother on board also, feeding her daughter?! I was cruising with a friend a few years ago up the St. John River in New Brunswick, CN. We anchored in a nice cove off one of the 4 lakes that go off to one side of the river over the course of 20 miles up the river.. The Tayana V-42 has a rounded stern so the boat has a really nice custom stainless steel ladder that hooks on to the toe rail for debarking and embarking the boat. Some guys came into the cove on a large jet ski and were zooming around circling the boat at high speed. Eventually, they left and the boat eventually stopped bouncing around from the wakes. Then we noticed that the ladder was gone and must have been splashed hard by the wake waves. The boat had moved around on its anchor rode from the wave action so we really didn't know where to start looking. The water was too murky to see anything as there is not any current in the lakes to wash silt sediment away. Water depth was about 15'. My friend hooked up a portable depth sounder to the dinghy and tried to run a square search pattern all around the boat's likely positions. He passed over what could possible be a sonar return that was a little shallower than the surrounding bottom. So he threw over the small dinghy fluke anchor and started dragging it across that area. In about 45 minutes he hooked something and knew it was the ladder because it was SO heavy! He pulled it up into the dinghy and got it back on board the boat! Then he set about changing the way it fastened it to the toe rail! Hope you can find your Evinrude! An engine safety line is always a good idea.
Serious upgrades! Starlink AND a real toilet. (We’re still using a bucket.😂😂😂🥰❤️😎) Your videos are top notch!
Well done on your dive the loo is coming on nicely the fog reminded me of a film called The Fog bit of a horror film worth watching though
Glad you are making headway on the bathroom. It will be so delightful to have it done. MP I must tell you before I go. You are beautiful and adorable at the same time. Such a wonderful soul. Now I can go on with my day. So until either next Sunday or the live feed. Take care you two. Be safe ❤
Hey Ben,make sure that you use some sort of gasket or the like to isolate the water hose and drain hose from the plywood in the floor/walls.That hose is going to chafe and then you’ll have more water in your bilge than you really want. And you’ll have to replace the hose(hoses)because of the leak or leaks !
Liked the diving. Too bad the water weren’t that clear where the engine dropped. That fog seemed kind of dicey. A radar would be a big help for sure, but I can understand the loo being a bit of a priority. If you do get a pet Kraken, name it Phil.
You got a wood/fiberglass top. Try mounting the Starlink antenna on the ceiling (inside) and see if it works. Not under the solar panels tho.
So good to see you taking a break from your boat work. I would try to separate the wet area as much as possible from the loo, even a partial screen & a plastic curtain would contain the water and help the area dry out more quickly. It will make a 'dry loo' accessible much more quickly. You may need some fans or an extractor fan, that way the damp air can be removed without getting into the rest of the boat and causing damp spots. Do you have space for a hanging locker for wet things?
That opening shot of that beautiful home in that haze in the water calm tranquil comes to mind. Thanks for the shot. Keep on keeping on.❤🙂

You guys just carry on with your dream. Work away as you always do & all good things will come to you.( even a functional commode. ) + a whole lot more. Love your video and I am routing for you both. Have a happy future.
You're living the life!! Thank you for my Sunday morning coffee with Yaba!!!❤❤
Light Yellow sodium tint glasses help in fog or haze just like in traditional Black and White film photography. 😉🧙🏻♂️🇬🇧
All the best! On the safety side, make sure that the anchor with the sharp fluke up in the bow is stowed properly - not safe as it was shown in the video. Imagine everything including people being flung around in heavy weather and relocate sharp objects! Great that you guys are out on the water!
Years ago I replaced using a "speed square" with a 'bevel gauge' in my carpentry. The advantage is the bevel gauge copies the exact angle while the "speed" square gives you an approximate number. When working with veteran framers in a team, many thought their speed square would be faster but when compared, the bevel gauge was both faster and more accurate. Once convinced, I have gifted a bevel square to 'new converts." 😇
You should put a roller on your dingy for the anchor line. Easier to pull up and prevent damage. Enjoy your video's.
If you want better accuracy when measuring from a mark start at 2,3,or 4 inch mark of the tape flat on the starting mark and just subtract whatever you started at and you will eliminate any innacuracy from starting at the elevated clip at the tape start.
What a beautiful sunset at the end. I am so proud of yall for coming this far.

Yeah always safety first, or u will regret it when u get older. Looking great glad u injoy ur dive. So u will be riding the high seas And giving the other sailing boat s a run for there money..😂
Hi, consider adding a radar reflector on the mast or somewhere else high, will help for other boats to see you on their radar
You better get that bathroom put together MP has had it.
You can rest the boom on one side of the wheelhouse roof. This might be enough to prohibit the anchor chain from chafing against the bobstay. I think you should have the boom on the opposite side of the anchor chain.
Running in the fog is always nerve-wracking :/ When backing down on your anchor, instead of relying on a shoreside mark to tell you when you've dug in, try using the GPS and wait for it to read 0.0 SOG. This way you will be certain when you stop moving :))
You are real mariners now !
So nice to see you enjoying a beautiful dive! Love you guys.
just a suggestion I would put that on top of the mass, and I mean that hippity tippy top of one of them, get a extension cable to go from the top and go into your cabin where you have your Wi-Fi router. To keep it out of the way and stop it from getting damage I would think that would be the best place for, but hey whatever floats your boat I would have never talked about how and to that toilet was done, but your boat your rules have a fantastic time and it looks pretty awesome to see you guys on that boat in the water
keep up the greet job she truely is a realy l nice boat
Ben remember you will always need access to through hulls valves pipes and clips. Nothing that can fail or might need access should be under or behind a glassed up area. Don't build defeats into your boat ... Bathrooms and fitted kitchens are troublesome in houses and more so in boats.. domestic Braided stainless steel flexy hoses have limited life spans and I've seen someone's house stairway turned into a waterfall whilst they popped out to go shopping ..or in the middle of the night. 😬 If you install a shower drain in the floor you need one with a top loading..lift out filter trap. So you can remove hair and small objects without lifting the floor or getting in underneath. 🧙🏻♂️ Just ask me how I know that one . The other is the trap has to feed into a separate pumped out sump box. Or it can flood your bilges and pumps and it will smell bad.
I was an early adopter. You might wish to order the Pipe adapter, or Short Wall Mount. For a sturdier mount solution. Best wishes from the far North.
Hi, Yaba’ looks great appearing out of the mist, she certainly looks good now that she is in the water. She has graceful lines,is she built for coastal sailing or is she capable of crossing an ocean?just curious. It is good that you can now enjoy the fruits of your labour, all the best, cheersRoly🇬🇧.
an interesting fact, your anchor rope on your dingy will not get tangled in a bucket. Drill a hole near the bottom of a bucket, string the rope through, attach the anchor and drop the anchor ooverboard. When you retreve the anchor just stuff the rope into the bucket in small loops. the rope will not tangle!
I know how you feel about Starlink. I live where there is one bar cell phone coverage on a good day. The best place for my antenna is on a riding lawn mower, right on the seat.
You should be able to mount the starlink flat to the deck ... if you look at the marinised versions, that's what they do ;)
MP, Ben, you have transition from producing construction videos to sailing and adventures videos quite well and quickly too. ♥

Glad you're enjoying this new phase!
Mp seems so nice…. Bet she will be so happy to have a real toilet
Your fantail is a better place to work, as opposed to your epoxied decks and cabin roof. I would recommend some variety of clamps. perhaps even some older wood ones, easier on the boat surfaces. You might think of getting some infrared binoculars.
Happy Wife happy life. That being said.... If all there is work.... What's the point? Striking a balance is key.
A small taste of piloting 100 years ago. No radar, no electronics, just fog horns and lead lines! Hopefully soon, you will experience the flush of success!
I do not own a table saw and when I want to cut plywood I use my skill saw as you guys do too. But this tip you may like. I use like 4 or 5 pieces of 1 x 2 x 4ft wood strips and lay them down on my driveway. Then lay the plywood on top of the strips. I place two strips close together right where I am cutting. And the others for support. Set the blade height accordingly. So if you this method you can just cut on the rear deck while a bit safer and get more accurate cuts too. Happy sailing!
You guys really need to upgrade your dingy from that super heavy fiberglass turd!
The dog laying ini the bathroom makes me laugh. I suppose though, that will be the norm when the bath is finished.
Water maker definitely but Y'all deserve a hot shower as well. I know the list is long but you two are up for the challenge!!

Your dedication to boat life, from building a toilet at sea to navigating through mist, is truly inspiring. Your adventurous spirit and determination to create a comfortable living space on the water inspire admiration. Here's to smooth sailing and more unforgettable journeys. And I am Floating Village Life.
They have many mounting options if you can mount a small pole someplace.
So now you have a toilet. Do you have a cover over your prop shaft yet? Or a cover over your belts and pulleys yet? Toilets are nice but they don’t mean much if you can’t use them. Get your covers made and installed please.
All you need is to paint with resin epoxy with 2 layers. Fiberglass is for structural applications.

Yes, being watching Yabá from the beginning too. Itself beig a joy. Know that they're finally in the water, I find myself having some anxiety. How about getting a skipper and a deckhand for now? While se get settled and get a bit more experience. 🤔 Just a thought.
You know there are a lot of bull sharks in Brazilian waters right? I dont want to spoil your fun but you seem to be fearless.
Great to see you guys keeping a work/life balance. Remember recreation is the word "creation" with the prefix "re" which means the creation referenced--yours--is repeated...so recreation leaves you "created again". Work hard and play hard!

Wow, I have waited years to see you go diving. Wonderful. So pleased to see Yabá being used. Soon she will be sailing too. You have been so patient and worked so hard to achieve your goals. Step by step you are getting there. I can't believe how far you have come from the days when Yabá was a rotten mess.
Adorei o episódio. . . não consegui desgrudar os olhos. . . .acho que vocês estão prontos para navegar pela Passagem de Drake.
Tkzz for sharing.,.,.,.,peace
Good morning, I have been following you guys, I saw the episode where you lost your outboard, just a bit of advise you must secure the engine to the boat. A simple ring bolt bolted through the transom and small piece of rope tied to the ring bolt and to the steering bar on the engine will ensure your engine will never fall off as long as you secure it. I live in Trinidad and I am a retired seaman, I last worked in Brazil out of a city called Macae, on supply boats for five years. Good luck.
It would be worth investing in an air-horn so that you can toot it as you travel through fog.
Estarei sempre orando por vocês, para que sejam um exemplo de superação para os jovens do mundo todo. Viva Elon Reeve Musk, viva os satélites Starlinks.
Great e[ospde! My favorite spot was where Caillou was receiving his loving and obviously thinking "I deserve this SO MUCH!" Good luck on getting that "Loo" done and, hopefully, getting a more secure location and mounting for the antenna dish.
Loved that you had a fun dive together at Ugly Island aka Ilha Feia. Hope life on Yabá is going swimmingly and keep.those projects going! ❤
If you haven't found your motor yet. Have you thought of magnet fishing. Use a strong magnet on a strong line. It should attach to the motor and it will help you find it. Just a thought. Fair winds and following seas.
Get some 50 mm polystyrene board so you can cut on a flat surface. I also second the use of eye and hearing protection.
It was funny watching MP trying to get back into the dinghy! Cool seeing you do a bit of diving and you need to get lights with a lot more red spectrum for the colour to really show. Have a ripper you guys!
Good episode!!! The more I watch, the more I get a sense that you guys may want to invest in a wireless headset for communications. The pilot house is loud and even screaming might not convey the right information at crucial times to the bow (or even stern) - especially with the engine on...
Shades of "Sea Hunt", (before your time), thanks for sharing.
Wow, I just noticed you're over 100K subs! Congrats! (102K 06/16/24).

Hi guys, awesome to see you guys hard at it again, Ben I’m really pleased you’ve made things much more comfortable for MP. Tell me guys, now that you’s have pretty well settled into the second phase of the journey with Yaba is it what you expected, or better, or worse. For my mind I have really missed the guys at the shipyard and the daily routine there but I’m also enjoying this stage as well which I was concerned about because I thought maybe my interest would waiver whereas the opposite has occurred. Also, how are the dogs coping with sea life, I know you guys get them ashore at every chance but have you noticed any changes in them. Well done again guys, you’re the best. Safe journeys

Hey crew, another great upload as usual. To make doing the mermaid easier, keep your mask on, it keeps the water out of your nose and you don't get that innate panic of your body thinking it's drowning. It will help you to concentrate on doing a better flip into the boat. Hope this gives you something to consider. Peace
