Building an eps-epoxy BOOGIE BOARD / from START to FINISH /

Спорт

Don't worry.. No real surfboard blanks were harmed in making this video.
My EPS blanks are delivered within a safety shell of EPS foam and rather than throw it in the bin I decided to do what any self respecting surf board shaper would do and built a body board.
I have no real knowledge when it comes to these water craft other than several derogatory names for them... so armed with that knowledge I set out on an inward journey of self discovery/loathing.
Now before I receive any hate mail from the many speed bumps that undoubtedly follow me, I would like to say that I highly respect body boarding as a sport. I truly do believe body boarders are some of the most progressive guys out there. I would be first guy in the water on a 43incher except my chicken calfs can't look at a flipper without cramping. So I stick to standing up and doing nothing.
Also please try and watch video with sound... otherwise it might just be weird.
Hope you all enjoy the video

    I'm bodyboarding for almost 20 years it takes a certain skill set and a good board, a set of swim fans and yeah they'll hurt your feet beginning but you'll get used to it also being in good shape is a great attribute good luck brother, coming from somebody that has a bad knee from a leg injury serious break I'm so stoked to see people trying to get into the water using that kind of board, bodyboarding is very overlooked, check out pro bodyboarding videos they're really open your mind to what is possible a small board like that!

    @@Shrednaught just a little bit either side of centre to avoid the stringer and where your front foot might go when dropknee (obviously left or right depending whether you are regular or goofy). If you are only going prone then centre is fine. Usually I'd put it about 8-10 inches from the nose so the deck side plug is on the flat bottom but with a glassed board doesn't matter. You don't want it too far forward or the leash will wrap around the corner of the nose.

    i saw moray boogie board cracked in half and delminated. wouldnt wood delminate faster or be better in water? warping and deteach/ i see imprinting surboards .. which would be cool..

  • @Shrednaught

    @Shrednaught

    If the wood got wet it would definitely warp but I have glassed over this wood so it’s impervious to water. I think it’s faster but most modern body boards use flex to control their turns so this is kinda just a point and shoot. I made it more for my little guy to splash around in the knee deep water. 🤙

    I cannot remember exactly off the top of my head mate. Maybe 42” long? I used a fishing rod for the outline as seen in the video. I kinda just winged it and made what I thought looked like a body board.

    I’m not sure man. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever pick boogy boarding if the surf is good so it’ll prob be just messed around with in the white water. Kinda made it for my son, although only one year old eventually I wanna start pushing him into the frothy white water.

    I know EPS is considered lower quality than polyethylene (Dow), but how does EPS compare to modern Dow after it's been reformulated to be more environmentally friendly but less durable and more flexible?

  • @Shrednaught

    @Shrednaught

    2 жыл бұрын

    It depends on the density of the foam. Eps isn’t lower quality overall. It’s just some eps is a lower density. Flexibility comes back to the overall build. Multiple components either add or subtract to the flexibility and durability of a board. Such as density, glassing schedule and stringer. As with everything it’s all about compromise. The stronger you make a board generally the less flex and vice versa. So you need to keep that in mind when designing a board.
