I'm from Maine and I do repairs on tents. I felt so bad when I saw all that leaking. I would think that if the company saw your video they would tell you to keep that one instead of going through the process of packing it and shipping it out and send you another one that hopefully doesn't leak. Best of luck to you. time to find out if you'll ever order from that company again.

If you're still looking for a wall tent, check out Jay Legere's channel. His tent has been up 5 years in the Canadian wilderness and it's still going strong, keeps him warm at -40. He got it from the Wall Tent Shop.

I love the sound of the rain on the tent. It takes me back to when I was a kid and the green canvas tent we used back then in the 50's. Our tent would leak also, and my mom and dad went crazy keeping the coxs away from the walls. Once you touched those walls when it rained it would keep leaking. Send the tent back! You used your hard earned money for it. Spend a little more if you have to for another "good" tent. Maybe a different brand. You never know you may have to go through the winter and you will need a good tent. Don't be hard on yourself. You did not know the tent would leak. The homestead looked good after you did a little housekeeping. I think the old owl will be flying over keeping an eye on you and Gracie.

Scotch guard, Brother! Literally have a Walmart tent I have used for 20 plus years for hunting that has never had one drop of water get through it. And I live in the South where rain is a part of hunting/camping. Make sure its dry and clean, literally just spray it on in sections. Do at least 2 coats. Keep driving on, love the videos and look forward to the progress.

I luv the fact you found a bullet in one of the trees you were milling!!! I worked for a tree company in the late 90’s and while taking trees down for the town of Rockland I was 80ft up cutting a leader off for the crane to take away and in the crotch of the two leaders in the HUGE Elm tree my saw started sparking where the chain was cutting. So we readjusted the sling and once we got it to the ground the crane operator and my supervisor hacked into the crotch exposing a CANNON Ball!!! Rowland is at the mouth of the Penobscot River so safe to assume 150yrs prior during some situation a boat fired for some reason or the fort across the river mouth did and that’s where it ended up. Really cool no matter how it got there but some of the things you find inside trees are truly amazing like a bullet!!!

You should do some research on seasoning a canvas tent. "Tent seasoning refers to the process of soaking and drying an untreated canvas tent multiple times in order to make it water-resistant by encouraging the cotton fibers of the canvas to swell, sealing the seams and needlework." I hope this helps. I really enjoy your videos.

I have 2 Kodiak canvas tents and have been happy with both. They suggest wetting them and letting them dry a few times before camping in them to tighten the weave of the duck canvas. This has worked for me. Haven said that I would just throw a tarp over the top for the summer. The reason being I wish i had done this with my first one. After a month of use in the spring with a lot of rain and pollen from the trees it got stained pretty bad. It still works fine but it would look a lot better now had I tarped it. Keep up the hard work.

Thank you Cory for including us in this journey. The tent's performance was disgraceful actually - a very shoddy piece of work to have manufactured. And all the extra work as well as the disappointment. We all need stuff that we buy to just work, don't we? Anyway, one of the reasons I love watching your videos is to see how tidy and methodical you are. Tidy mind translates to tidy workspace and camp. Hope the tent works out alright with the company.

Wow Cory, what a nice wood Mizer that your friend has! Hello Cory, I can't wait to see the wall tent up, so you can get started. Awe little wet Gracie! I just love that pup!! Cory, you're getting the rain, and we in Missouri need that rain so badly, it keeps by passing us!! or we get a little rain, but with the winds it dries it up fast. Awe Cory, that is horrible with the leaks in the tent! Praying that something will work out with this tent, and they will take care of this. We are seeing the leaks as your videoing it, so we see it firsthand. Cory, keep your chin up! remember God is still in control of all and sometime when things keep going downhill, we get discouraged I know I do. Keep looking up to the Lord even in these discouraging times. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. Praying for you Cory and Gracie.❤

I can remember that if you have a canvas wall tent it needs to be treated with waterproof spray and nothing should be touching it. When I was younger my neighbor would put his up every year and he would treated with spray outside and inside.

A watch out on the stove tents. They have covers for the chimney pipe holes. Usually with velcro. Some its velcro on 4 sides that separates completely from the tent. Other velcro on 3 sides and stays attached to tent. Rolls down with straps. The 3 sides need monitoring. Over time wind loosens the straps and the flap blows and hits the stove pipe and catches fire. The 4 side removable one’s are better for long term use.

I've lived in a few different tents over the years, my favorite was a Nomadics 17' tepee it was great if you were staying put for a while but moving day was a ton of work. I sewed up a pyramid 10' X 10' with 2' side walls, stove jack, and sod cloth to hunt out of. It could be hung from a tree limb or use a center pole which in my part of the world was more practical. Lived in a 16' X 30' surplus tent in 5' of snow, it was ok if you were near the stove but anywhere else was like living in your freezer. A friend of mine has a Davis tent, I think it's 10' x 15, very nice tent. Recently I spotted a Roamin' Home tent sort of a modified "Baker" tent looked real practical for short stays. Anyway all these are true canvas tents that will drip a bit when new but once the canvas shrinks they tighten up very well. Really enjoy your content, and good to see both Gracie and yourself doing so well.

I have 100 nights in my cheaper canvas tent, I use a white tarp (white lets the light in) from Cooke Custom Sewing in Minnesota, and my stove Jack/stove pipe goes out back wall, zero burn holes. That tarp makes even cheap tents 100% waterproof. That’s a nice looking tent you have now, interior frame, not too big for solo use, consider a good tarp.

Dang. Sorry about the tent. Since you're thinking of delaying the cabin build for a bit, I'm thinking maybe you could frame up a simple structure on your tent deck with some rough cut lumber. Sheet metal on roof and some rough cut 1x on the sides. Doesn't have to be fancy, but would get you by while you work on your infrastructure.

Every tent I have owned leaked at least somewhere. It is disturbing to say the least. Mostly the seams. That one of yours was a real leaker. I have always had canvas tents with no floors. I started treating them with a canvas sealer called “Canvak” after I let them weather some. I sprayed a hose on them for extended periods if no rain in forecast and let the sun hit them hard. They always shrink some after that. I them applied the Canvak. Had one for a hunting camp on a platform for 6 years prior to building my cabin. Treated her every 2 years with sealer. Still have her today after 20 years. It was from a tent maker in Alaska. Also have small one 6’x6’from same tent maker. It’s my back country brook trout tent that I take in with canoe. All the best. Good luck. Peace¥

Directions were to set it up, and soak it to fully get the cloth to fill in and acclimate to a water proof state. This tent may not leak save for the seams the next time if rains. The seams will need treated. Ether way I hope the next one works out for you. Keep the videos coming. I look forward to them, and the progress.

@@TheMaineWoods I have something similar to the Springbar...a Kodiak Canvas 10 x 14. When I got it, the instructions stated the tent needed to be seasoned prior to use. So, I set it up in my back yard and hosed it down. Been using it for the past 5 years hunting in Michigan's UP and it has seen a bunch of rain, snow, ice and wind. It's never leaked a drop. With the amount of water that leaked in your setup, I doubt it was a few needle pinholes, though. I think you're right about the seams. Kodiak does make a couple of wall tents, but they're pricey.

The tent looks good. The bad part is that although when the leave the manufacturer they are technically "waterproof" they then sit for God only knows how long in shipping containers, trucks, warehouses, the outlet shelves. Waterproofing material is chemical based and will and does break down over time. Usually, one of the 1st things in the assembly instructions is to re-waterproof the seams before assembly. 'Tent Seam Seal' is an inexpensive product, tons on Amazon, and is applied easily with an included brush or a roll-on like deodorant. A tent that size will take maybe two hours to do and you may need to partially disassemble to get to all areas. Once the sealant dries you should have no problems though you may have to "re-do" some areas that need more or may have been missed. This would be better than the tarp idea for the summer for sure.

Wish I lived closer to you, bud. I would help you out. Kodiak has good hot tents. I have a 12x12 Kodiak lodge tent.. They cost around 900 dollars. Check them out.

Davis Wall Tent would be my first choice...made in Denver CO!! Used them all last summer May to Oct. in Maine while it rained every week and no leaks. The Wall Tent Shop tents are popular but are made in Pakistan.

Bummer about the tent Cory. I hope the company makes it right for you, like maybe come and pick it up so you don't have to pack it. I don't have any recommendations. There's got to be something that is decent quality out there. Hang in there!

Also try channels from "Girl in the woods" . They've lived in wall tents over many years. And "The Outdoor gear review channel". He tests the gear and rates it's quality. Good luck! Nothing worse than getting soaked in your tent!

Don't know a lot about canvas tents, but I think they require a rain fly. A simple tarp might suffice.

What about a large tarp over the tent? It will also act as a fly, keeping it warm or cool. 🤔🤗

Hi, hang a tarpaulin above the tent for a quick fix, its cheaper and it works. We often stay in the bush when hunting and just put up a big tarpaulin and live under that for weeks. Cheers mate. Harera
