I started doing this in my last playthrough and it just makes sense. Would you rather have a rickety old shack or walls of steel all nicely put together?
In my main profile built an outdoor vault at the drive-in (flat land but only like 4 floors) and the a vault house in sanctuary (settlers sleep in the players pre-war house on sleeping bags)

@@IAREDARK in every Vault I always saw the wheel-door rolling inside the Vault, not outside. (where something could block it)

@@lorenzomux true, buy this specific settlement object pulls the door out instead of pushing it in. Also if I flipped it around it wouldn't be flush with the wall behind it
