I build a tiny house out of dead standing trees found on my 40 acre property. I thin out the forest to increase the health of all the trees, and make use of the material to build a really cool small hut out of a refurbished satellite dish. I use a bit of re-used tarp to cover the top of the small shelter.

This forest was planted nearly 40 years ago, and no trees were removed, so it's far too overgrown to be healthy. The best thing to do is remove half the trees and allow sunlight to help the forest recover and allow new trees to seed themselves.
The forest was originally designed to be planted quickly, but then harvested, just nothing happened.
I cut a bunch of trees to build the log cabin by stacking them vertically and make a rounded miniature, tiny house. I will include many features in this inside of this primitive structure like a wood burning stove, sleep space, and a wood floor.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

Turned out nice, though I'm surprised you didn't layer the metal differently, putting the top piece on the back of the lower one instead of on the front, that way if any water makes it through to drain down the back. Always fun to see your projects on the property.

I did not think this would turn out so well. It TURNED INTO A MASTERPIECE of 'use what ya got.' Finding a use for those outside strips of timber and bark was just the right thing. EITHER your knockoff wood stove will fall apart (as you mentioned others of its make have) or YOU WILL OVERHEAT the space and need to swap it out for something more suitable.

Love the video, perfect duo, great video! Just a random thought, I see you often burning brush piles. What are your thoughts on turning that into biochar? Would really enjoy whatching such a side project. You could perhaps use it to improve the soil for the vegetables and compare results. You make such great use of all the resources you have on hand, I thought this would go hand in glove. Also the basic process of making bio char is pretty easy. But you could also ofcourse make a simple biochar oven. Love the channel

I love the way you did the floor. My cabin is made from pallets and recycled plywood. The goal was to not pay for any materials except fasteners. A fellow gave me enough corrugated tin for the roof, and one of my customers gave me some left over OSB from when his roof deck was replaced. I re shingled it after some hail damage, and he wanted it out of his garage. Another friend tore down a shed on his farm and I got the plywood from him. Another friend was moving and he had some vinyl windows he didn't want to take with him, so free windows too. I was bidding on a lot of materials at an auction and got the door in it, so I missed the mark of not buying anything.
