Well, it worked. Tomorrows video will show it running. I put my hand on the pipe after 2 hours of running. Not even warm.

Tomorrow’s video is the one I’m most proud of.

I see so many of these videos where people go to a lot of effort to build a quiet enclosure for an open frame generator that often isnt even an inverter generator. I got a Champion dual fuel 45 inverter genny and used a similar mini shed to hold it. I have an inlet vent down low for fresh air and a fan-operated vent up top for the exhaust to exit but I didn't sound insulate the shed at all. The genny is pretty quiet so that I cant hear it running behind my garage.

Mine ran my entire house for several days nonstop after a tornado wiped out electricity here (except to change oil) I had zero problems. Very happy with this setup and couldn’t even hear it in the house.

Write it on a note and slip it in side the pillow case. It absorbs better that way.

I went to bubbas school of electrocology.

I built a portable genny box similar about 9 years back. 4 inch wheels (2 swivel) box 3/4 ply-top lid for gas fill- one end open for exhaust and removal of genny for maintenance - other end 10 inch fan-side small cutout to reach plugs battery and start switch-inside walls have fireproof/soundproof insulation. I can’t remember how many decibels I knocked down but it was quite a lot. Painted box red bricks made a big bad wolf threatening 3 little pigs, kids love it.

Brother I would not put that screen on there. It's a spark arrestor. They are know well for big time lowering your out put power as they clog. They clog FAST! If it's not going to be going in a place where there is not dry things like grass. There is no need. Most Forest management make you have them if your running a geny camping. You do you brother. Just know if you put it back on. They need to be cleaned a LOT. Seen them clog in as fast as 3 days of non stop running. Hope that helps. Man that looks nice. I am so going to do this. Yep! Overkill. LOL Mine may be underkill. ??? Good to have your solution in mind, in case I have to beef up my approach a bit. My brother did the electrical side of mine first. The inlet box looks similar. Fortunately I had an old 50 amp mobile home electric service cable. He used that to wire the inlet box and to make the generator service cable. FWIW... Mobile home originally owned by my Grandmother and then my parents. That cable is serving 3 generations. Maybe a 4th if a great nephew uses the left over wire for a welding cable. Anyway, glad to see you're making good progress. Long range forecast is for bad winter, here. Remember well what happened to Texas this past February. Having the generator in place will give you a lot of comfort, both physically and in terms of feeling much better prepared when storms are in the forecast. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Putting that flex hose on the muffler was no easy quick job, but you made it work. Sitting on that concrete floor is not doing your back any good. Hope you get better soon. Thanks for taking us along on this project.

Nice effort, nice video. That coned screen you took off the exhaust is the Spark Arrestor. Also by welding that nipple INSIDE the muffler's exhaust port, you constricted the air flow. Let's hope that the constriction is not significant enough to effect engine performance.

Yes, I know. I’ve worked on a gas engine or two. By removing the two spark arrestors, I’m certain it negated any constriction the nipple I used may have had. Thanks!

My problem was I brought the wrong tool with from my bench. I’m disabled and it’s very hard to get back up and get the right tool, so I just screwed around until I got the thing off.

You need a set of ignition wrenches or 1/4 drive but like the build. I need that spark arrestor

I have all that but getting up and down off the floor isn’t easy.

Whew, I got tired just watching. Looking forward to seeing how you tie it in to the breaker box. I would like to do the same. I asked an electrician about it once and they asked me, "What would you ever need that for?" Then, snomageddon. Yeah, that's why, because one is none and two is one.

Thanks for this. I am just getting started on my project. I have the WGEN9500 but looks about the same. I think I am going to do the weld option for the exhaust but will have to have it done. Could you have made the extension a little longer so you wouldn't have to cut the shield?

I’ve used this several times now and it powers my entire house. Hot water heater, stove,AC. The only thing it won’t power is my 15 KW heat strip. I’m using a propane heater for that in an emergency. I wouldn’t change anything on this build process. It’s worked exactly like I wanted it to.

Looks really good are you going to put a second muffler on the end of that flex pipe or are you going to terminate it out perhaps an in a bucket of water also to Help muffle the noise

@@bctruck I just watched your third video on it I remember reading somewhere that a lot of the noise is not from combustion it’s from the mechanical movement inside the engine and generator itself I remember somebody hanging jute inside their generator box and it really helped

I may experiment with a Six inch stove pipe to extend the flow of exhaust and maybe muffle it a bit.

I would rather have "overkill" than to have the damn thing melt! When you showed the lid 'straightener' I was thinking you could slit the ends of the plastic & run a strip of metal through to bolt the outer one to. Not really sure you have to put the spark arrestor back on since the pipe will be so long...they do have a tendency to clog up over time. Will you be running the generator on gasoline or propane?

If I don’t put the spark arrestor on, the mud daubers will have the exhaust hose plugged up in no time at all. I’ll be running it on gas until I can afford a huge propane tank.

Why a 50 amp breaker when your input box and genny cable are only rated for 30? Is your wire properly sized for the 50?

Put whatever size breaker you like in yours. This isn’t a tutorial. I’m just showing how I DID MINE. I’m not going to get into any technical arguments with folks who never leave their couch and just go get things done.

Many good ideas, but I don't think I would have removed the flame arrestor screen from the muffler, it's an engineered safety device...

Hello, I am basically using your design for the generator exhaust...I have the same generator, and I am wondering if you could tell me the parts you used for the exhaust. I am especially interested in the insulated pipe and the flange going through the shed wall. Thank you in advance.

Here is what I used to get the exhaust through the wall. It’s called a thimble. I ran my exhaust through it and packed around it with stainless scrubbing pads. They look like Brillo pads but they are stainless. That keeps the exhaust centered in the thimble. amzn.to/3Y7e9OC amzn.to/3K6RtIE

I would absolutely not try that. These are air cooled engines and you don’t want anything that restricts the fast exit of exhaust.

Im thinking oit may help to quiet some of the muffler reverberation. its held on by 5 bolts. I doubt it will reattle.

Well, I had several things working against me. Working on the floor is very painful for me. My hands shake when I’m in a lot of pain and I didn’t know that one end of the clamp had a captured nut.

Me too! When I got it off, I realized that one side had a welded nut. I don’t see as well as I use to and that’s half the problem when I struggle with stuff.

You don’t mean to complain, then you complain. I was sitting down on the concrete floor. I’m disabled. It’s extremely difficult to get back up and get the right tool. I was trying to use what I had on the floor with me because of my disability. Thanks for not complaining.
