people laughed at me when I used PVC to mockup an exhaust design on my street-fighter a few years back. Your approach is better though - I used various degree curved bends rather than heating. I also like your idea of using the joining pipe on the inner-tube of the template. Awesome work, as always, Dan :)

Thanks a lot, its a great idea to model your exhaust. I'm going to use it for sure
Hope all is good down there. Was hoping to catch a vid last week from you. This technique will help us in our upcoming scrambler project.

Nice one. I did wonder if this was a viable method that anyone had already used with some success. Thank you for sharing.
Helpful video for sure dude. I used welding rod when building mine for the xs850 but reckon I’ll use this method for the scrambler exhaust v2 when I get a chance, thanks for sharing 👍

Absolute awesome! I need one exhaust for my CB900f and one for my cb1100f, both 4-in-one 🤣 but... kayaba shocks on a honda???
Many Thanks! Used this method with mild steel tubing back before benders became available. The pvc method & jigging helps set up the shapes if one is still sand bending or, as said piecing together a system. Very useful as to temps! I will most definitely try this with a Subaru twin turbo project i am working up!!!

That is fantastic and I’m glad it has come in useful for you :) You do get quite a lot of working time while they’re still malleable, I would recommend be compressed air or a cold bottle of water so you don’t have to stay in there for ages holding it in one position :)

I need inspiration to go in the shed & wire up a Suzuki GSX750F with a modified GSXR600 bottom end with an extra gear & modified GSX750F top end, I fkin hate wiring. I build for pleasure & pay, I've been doing it since I was 12 my first bike was a Panther 650 single that I found on the tip, not one bit was stuck to another, I had to pay my old man to pick it up, yeah what a guy, then I built it with no manual & sold it to one of my school teachers, I bought a brand new 250 crosser, I was going to buy a backup bike but my old man stole the rest, I did say he was a hell of a guy. I Subscribe, there are hundreds of guy's on here that tell you how good they are, but you show people that what you're doing works, that is a totally different thing, I know a bit but I think I can actually learn something from you.
This is great content for someone like me who's just starting up

Awesome work Dan. Thinking about my own project, would it be possible to do a 3 into 2 (or even 4 into 2 others may be interested in how) using a similar technique?
@CafeRacerGarage
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah anything is possible, there is a few simple ways to join pipes but it all depends on how the pipes land so that you get a nice flow, some people believe that the pipes need to be of equal length which has some truth to it but it’s not super critical unless you’re going to want optimal hp out of your engine, These are cafe races after all, not MotoGP bikes lol 😂

If you have the skills? You can build the entire motorcycle from plastic or even wood . You see from about 1880 until recently most mechanical prototypes were first made in wood .

Have a look at Suzuki GT's, Kawasaki KH's & Triumph Speed Triple's or you could design your own "Collector Box" & have as many coming out of it as you wish, just remember to keep the bends flowing & even, any tight spots will cause a problem for you.
Great Idea Dan !! Its like working with a huge sausage lol , thanks

This is just a template to help you get the shape you want. You definitely have to build a steel one.
Are you located in QLD AUS? I am and I’m currently building a 82 CM250 cafe and need to get an exhaust made pretty much exactly like the one in this video and wondering where you would go to get one fabbed up?

Cool idea 💡👍 but quite a lot of work 🤔 An easier alternative is to take a picture of the bike and either print it on paper and draw on top of it, or use a photo editor on your computer. Not quite the same of course, but gives you a much easier way to play around with different layouts (and it's totally free as well 😁)
@CafeRacerGarage

I think this is also a great idea, both have advantages, I find seeing something physically on the bike so you can walk around it has a slight advantage compared to a print or screen if you know what I mean, It"s not very expensive to do this way and its actually fun if you have a little time. Total cost is under $20 for sand and pipe :) Have a great day brother and i hope that bike of yours is still coming along nicely.

@@CafeRacerGarage True, a two dimensional picture is of course limited compared to testing it on the bike. My cafe racer build have been progressing a bit slowly lately, I have to many projects going on at the same time 😣 Soon ready to get back to it!
Show us the finished pipe please!
Do PVC pipe will be shape out by exhaust heat??
@jeromebreeding3302
2 жыл бұрын
It won't, but carbon fiber will, and is often employed for high-end exhaust systems, but a form must be used to lay it up, a problem in itself.
Surely we got another video coming out shortly and not another 2 weeks 😬😬
@CafeRacerGarage
2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been posting weekly videos. It’s a tonne of extra work but very rewarding
The down side to this is the pipe takes the outter edge of the shape so looks too wide. Your template would need to resemble the inner line of the desired shape.
Para que hacerlo de PVC???
Sooooo... How do they sound? 😏
I can spell template.
Template - not Templet. Sorry, I can’t help myself.

I'm unsure if you are joking, if English is not your native language you may have misunderstood the idea of the video, PVC plastic is to design the shape of exhaust you require easily so you can decide if you'd like to make it from steel, Have a great day.
