    Like someone said before, these 2x4 are going to trap water. Its why you need a vertical layer underneath these horisontal ones.

    Hey its good to see you again! 😉 I'm glad you were able to find someone to help you out. It's better to be safe than sorry. You're fortunate to have a father who is strong and healthy enough to help you build your dream cabin. What better way to finish the roof than to spend quality time with your dad making memories to last a lifetime. The sooner you get that roof on and some windows in the better off you'll be especially with winter coming. You can work on the inside anytime. I love your view and can't wait to see your cabin when it's done. . You have a beautiful family and you'll be making memories to last a lifetime. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and your family 🎄 ❤

    Not very 45ish on the underneath cabin brace degree wise. I would've installed a lower horizontal rail just above the ground and and installed several braces between the bottom rail and the bottom of the cabin,each at a 45 degree angle to give it the structure the ultimate strength. Several years ago I used 45 degree braces on a antenna tower that I welded together out of 3/4&1/2 inch rigid electrical conduit for extreme strength but with just a minimal amount of flex. That's what I'd do if it's my cabin build.

    As a couple of people have mentioned. If there is moisture between the metal and the water barrier. I would be concerned abot the strapping would prevent the moisture from draining. Maybe after using them as footing the should be nailed to vertical straping to keep them off the flat sheeting to let moisture drin straight down.

  • @WoodnessGoodness

    @WoodnessGoodness

    6 ай бұрын

    Yea honestly now I’m second guessing. Horizontal strapping only is very popular but I’ve been reading that having the vertical is better for moisture. I’m torn.

    Not trying to be a Christmas party pooper, but those 2x4 sleepers will act as moisture dams which is why they're typically installed on a diagonal. Looks like a 12/12 pitch so you're probably more concerned with them as steps during construction anyway. Anyhoo, Merry Xmas!

  • @WoodnessGoodness

    Possibly. I didn’t really think that much moisture would gather. I know moisture happens but with my pitch, I’d assumed that the moisture would hit the horizontal straps regardless. I need to ask someone haha

    i would have thought you would put the 2x4 the opposite way. Like you said, condensation will happen on the underside of the sheet metal, so it will drip on to the paper. But now the water has no where to go but sit on the top edge of the 2x4, which will probably rot in time. am i wrong?
