Back to Boat Building - Ep. 399 RAN Sailing

Support our production and join the RAN Sailing crew ~ with livestreams, meet-ups & direct contact with us: / ransailing
It's back to boat building after we finish the DIY shelves out of scrap wood. We start sanding the inside of the hull and tidy up in the barn. Let's organize!
We are a Swedish family who have sailed the world since 2016 while sharing the adventures here on KZread. While we are still sailing, our main focus now a days is building RAN III, a 50 ft sailboat that we are building from scratch. We post a new episode every Friday so make sure to subscribe and hit the bell to be the first to know when there is a new episode!

I am too! Yes, that's a sweet setup. I have a lot of the skill, but I'd love 1/10 of the energy and drive. Between building a boat and being a parent to their whirlwind I'm amazed he continues to have energy with such a genuine smile. (I'd also rarely remember to turn the camera on, and never remember to talk to it. 🤣)

Hi Johan and Malin , I jumped aboard your channel , about 6 months ago , and have since then spent an obscene amount of time binging your channel from epsiode 1 =) What a jorney you are on. Im gonna sail my 30ft Scampi from lake Hjälmaren down to its new homeport of Ystad next week here, and you guys are truly an inspiration of what is possible with the right mindset , so thanks for that. If you would ever need a pair of extra hands carry crap or sanding or what not, hit me up , I am a Licensed welder and autobody repairdude , so I know my way around sanding and faringcompounds =). Im located between Ystad and Sjöbo. Glad Midsommar !! and keep up the amazing work you guys do !

Happy Summer Solstice to our friends in Sweden! I think it's great that you're having a moment to finally catch your breath after getting the hull flipped. Once again, Vera steals the moment with her unique way of looking at the world. Your strawberries sure looked delicious! I'm glad to see you're finally starting to get some extra help with the tedious work of sanding the inside of the hull. We don't need for you three to get burn out from all the long hours! Years from now when you're plying the waters of far away oceans, you'll be able to look back on these videos to remind yourselves that hard work and determination does have it's rewards!

I posted this on Instagram as well, but just in case you didn't see it... We're watching you new video right now. You're talking about the slugs. The best things for them are either crushed egg shells around the edges of your garden and the plant bases and leaves or diatomaceous earth. If the bugs eat that, it acts kinda like swallowing tiny shards of glass and it kills them. Both are good for organic gardening. Hope this helps.

To improve your garden - Spraying slugs with a solution of half a cup of vinegar to one cup of water can kill them and may also deter other slugs from entering the area. The vinegar dries out the slugs, causing them to melt. You can also use vinegar to wash away slug trails and remove slug slime from your hands.

For the garden, you need raised plots. If you have them raised, then you can put caps through the legs, and put salt inside them. Most crits won't go past the salt barrier. You can also take some salt, dissolve it in water and paint the outsides of the boards as a temporary measure to try and see if works out. Caveat, you kinda have to do it often.

They make a copper stripping that goes around planter boxes like those tp combat slugs. They won't cross copper because it is toxic to them. You can also set beer traps. They are just small cups that you put in the ground to their top that is filled with beer. The slugs are attracted to the sugar, and have a final party in the cup before they pass.

Ran One Fan: haven't written in awhile. Good too see you all look well. I remembered the profile and the cabin design when you showed it early in the barn build. I am wondering, guessing about the adventures you'll have if you try to finish the deck and cabin house inside the barn ! (how will you get it out of the barn? ) The Cabin height would be pretty close to the top of the ceiling of the barn ? Maybe build the cabin shell by itself and then take the boat back out of the barn and crane it to the deck? wow that would be an adventure. Build the boat and dissemble the barn ? wow. So many things to plan and think about I couldn't resist throwing that one at you. hope you don't have to many sleepless nights. (lol) have fun.
