We're a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we sold everything we owned and saved money for 1,5 years while living aboard our 40-foot custom built aluminium sailboat. Then we untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016.
Our sailing adventures have taken us halfway around the world, we have welcomed our daughter Vera and bought a new boat. In 2022 we started working on another dream, building our dream boat! It's a 50ft sailboat built out of timber & epoxy/fiberglass and we do everything ourselves.
Make sure to subscribe to follow along and we post a new episode every Friday!

Amazing work love seeing the weekly progress on Ran III!!
Does the unidirectional tape has a light amount of chopstand in it for adhesion? That would be my concern that the ud bonds well. Perhaps it will bond between layers if 1708 biaxial? Great progress!
Great job i am a man from 73 from Belgium and you doing a great job 😊
Almost a shame to have to cover the wood inside- actually really like the look as it is…
Looks like they know what they are doing, nice
Looks like this dude is building an Ark 😮
Vitemölle ❤
in between step should be like 17cm, it is tiresome to lift foot 22-25cm all day long, not to mention going down the stairs
A great video again!! So great to see the progress! That will be one solid sailing vessel!!
Lovely weather!
🤯 IN THIS ECONOMY?? THAT LUMBER ALONE WAS 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS, 🗣 LETS CHECK THIS GUYS BANK ACCOUNT, he's having to much fun
I felt bad for Johan when Vera came to tell him they’re going for a bike ride. I was thinking, “Don’t miss those moments!” But, then I was happy to see Dad and daughter on the beach at the end. It’s all about balance.
lovely video
Biggest waste of wood and trees
Johan, are you going to add a couple of layers of kevlar around the waterline for extra impact damage tolerance? 🙂
Do you still have your wee sailboat?
The view outside your barn is fantastic!
Great progress again this week Johan. Hope that Malin and Vera have recovered from their cold and fever? Just an idea, but it might be good if you might give a quick review of the design of Ran 3. For example, I can't now remember if you are going to have twin rudders. Think it might be helpful for newer subscribers who may not have watched from the beginning. Cheers Malcolm (from Jeanneau Owners)
Wish timing worked out to attend the open house. I was in Barcelona last week and Vienna and Amsterdam this week. Cheers, and keep enjoying life!
Once again, a fantastic insight into Tasmania's diminishing past. Great work.
Love you guys. Mvh. Hallo Johan, I follow you and the boat build. I am very impressed. I am alsof foĺlowing the Duracell project. Matt from Duracell uses for almost everything vacuüm bags. Why are KZread not use vacuüm bags. Theo from Holland.
How about a self propelled riding sander
Sounds like you're lucky to be alive. Is there any footage of the voyage?
A great project and perfect work. Do you have planed to electrical connect all stays to the kiel for lightning protection ? Thx Wolfgang
I noticed you use a ladder to get in and out of the hull. I suggest you take some time to build some stairs, ideally with a platform at the top. It would make getting tools and materials in and out of the hull much easier.
Looks great ! Do you plan on putting a carbon mast ? Building it yourself ? (it saves quite a bit of weight where it should be saved)
Thankyou👍
Johan, what dust helmet/system do you have? The 3M one seems so expensive.
Thanks Johan, always appreciate your work.
Hi guys. Things are looking great on the build. Perhaps this is in your plans moving forward but have you considered building a staircase with a proper landing to make entry to the hull more comfortable. This comes from a guy who has done plenty of work on ladders and they are tiring by the end of a day. All the best enjoy the summer.
If it's so hot in the daytime.. for this laminating, why not just work at night?
When the weight and thickness of a glass laminate are that big, it is more rentable money/time to replace some glass with carbon fibre. Your core is very strong, which helps.
Johan, did you grow up around boat builders? I build boats out of metal and your work is so well thought out. You know way too many tricks to avoid issues to be a first time builder. Maybe I'm wrong, and you learned everything you needed from KZread? 😅 I'm very impressed on how solid and smoothly this is going for you. Amazing work!
I really enjoy your outside views of the farm and fields
Thank you RAN... for 400...
J is correct .... a folly of youth is believing your time will last forever ... but before you know it you are 72 like me 😮
Beautifully done, almost like watching a ballet. Haha.
We create our own own world!
You look like a baseball catcher for the Chicago White Sox!!
:)
Where were your knee pads ? Yoooouuuu'll be soooooorry.....🤔🤨😡
I always have knee-pads while working, so also in this episode. 😊
Another great episode, Johan. 🎉 🎉 Bummer the family was sick. Happens. 🙁 The prep is always the most time consuming….at least to me. Jet no great work was done without quality prep!! Pray all is better with the girls. See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
Hi. Tremendous effort from you both. Now that the hull is upright and seeing you standing inside it I can't help but wonder if now is the time to reconsider your deckhouse. It is such a nice hull and than you propose to build such an ugly deck house on it. Seems a shame. Please think about it. Cheers Peter.
Impressive as always. Congratulations on 400 episodes! Vi alla från 48°N 122°W hoppas att ni kommer att besöka Seattle igen när hon flyter. Kedjeplattorna fäster på vanten eller stagen?
i see, indeed of metal banding ,its fiberglass
Over in Europe you should grow grass seed in April and May or September October for best results … outside these times you will struggle to have a good result
Please prime the cedar, as many have suggested... why take a chance? Otherwise, great work👍😃
He trabajado muchos años en astilleros y nunca vi un barco sin cuadernas.❤
Thanks
