RAN Sailing

RAN Sailing

We're a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we sold everything we owned and saved money for 1,5 years while living aboard our 40-foot custom built aluminium sailboat. Then we untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016.

Our sailing adventures have taken us halfway around the world, we have welcomed our daughter Vera and bought a new boat. In 2022 we started working on another dream, building our dream boat! It's a 50ft sailboat built out of timber & epoxy/fiberglass and we do everything ourselves.

Make sure to subscribe to follow along and we post a new episode every Friday!

With your support we can keep producing and create videos on our own terms. Join the crew and get access to extra material, livestreams, exclusive meet-ups and more: www.patreon.com/ransailing

Much love,
Malin, Johan & Vera

Does the unidirectional tape has a light amount of chopstand in it for adhesion? That would be my concern that the ud bonds well. Perhaps it will bond between layers if 1708 biaxial? Great progress!

I felt bad for Johan when Vera came to tell him they’re going for a bike ride. I was thinking, “Don’t miss those moments!” But, then I was happy to see Dad and daughter on the beach at the end. It’s all about balance.

Great progress again this week Johan. Hope that Malin and Vera have recovered from their cold and fever? Just an idea, but it might be good if you might give a quick review of the design of Ran 3. For example, I can't now remember if you are going to have twin rudders. Think it might be helpful for newer subscribers who may not have watched from the beginning. Cheers Malcolm (from Jeanneau Owners)

Love you guys. Mvh. I noticed you use a ladder to get in and out of the hull. I suggest you take some time to build some stairs, ideally with a platform at the top. It would make getting tools and materials in and out of the hull much easier.

Hi guys. Things are looking great on the build. Perhaps this is in your plans moving forward but have you considered building a staircase with a proper landing to make entry to the hull more comfortable. This comes from a guy who has done plenty of work on ladders and they are tiring by the end of a day. All the best enjoy the summer.

When the weight and thickness of a glass laminate are that big, it is more rentable money/time to replace some glass with carbon fibre. Your core is very strong, which helps.

Johan, did you grow up around boat builders? I build boats out of metal and your work is so well thought out. You know way too many tricks to avoid issues to be a first time builder. Maybe I'm wrong, and you learned everything you needed from KZread? 😅 I'm very impressed on how solid and smoothly this is going for you. Amazing work!

Hi. Tremendous effort from you both. Now that the hull is upright and seeing you standing inside it I can't help but wonder if now is the time to reconsider your deckhouse. It is such a nice hull and than you propose to build such an ugly deck house on it. Seems a shame. Please think about it. Cheers Peter.
