Passing down the "Bob's Your Uncle" to the next generation is important to our species.

Yeah but these days Bob can also be your aunt… lmao
I had the biggest smile watching your daughter riding her bike. That’s the wholesome content we love to see
Love seeing the Saplings sprout! Reese is a gem, so is Uncle Bob. Don't forget to run some wire in the front soffit for some low voltage lights...

Screwing sheet metal may be boring but when I watch these videos, to me, once the roof is on that feels like such a huge milestone.
Omg dying over “bobs your uncle!”
I can’t stop smiling over how cute Reese is and when she said “Bob’s your Uncle”, I about died laughing. Congrats on loosing the training wheels. Huge accomplishment!!! Thank you Graeme for not falling off the roof. I held my breath the entire time you were up there. I installed a metal roof two years ago at age 71. I was scared to death. No more roofs for me, my balance isn’t what it used to be. Your cabin is coming together and it’s looking great. I don’t remember seeing snow up there. Is that normal?

We get some snow but never that much. Sometimes we get a dump but rare since I’ve been here at least.
EXCEPTIONAL EPISODE with lots of semi-professional amateur skills, dangerous balancing acts, and heart warming moments!!! YOU GO Reese!!!

That mob boss scene was pretty good. Send that into Scorsese and you might be in his next flick. 😉
Nail to the kneecaps… nah I’m good….😂 Woodness Goodness Cuteness Overloadness ❤ What a great memory to have with your daughter! 😊 Those metal roofs are seriously slippery. Bare foot does help, but the safety Karen’s will not be happy. Dead battery had us screaming NO! That roof (after pollen or dust) is going to be worse than an old school dusty basketball court with Payless kicks….. Stay safe! 💪🏼 🌲

I bet Harry the Rat is already looking forward to moving into the new and larger mansion, possibly with his extended family. ;)
This is not a boring video, seeing the progress is great.
Another great update! So nice to see tin on that roof finally! I bet you’re super pumped about it too. I really like the colour you chose for the metal. And bravo Reese, no training wheels that’s awesome keep it up :D
We finally have enough b roll for an intro again! LFG
Outstanding Craftsman ship 👍Great JOB Pete!!!
Looking great! I was there 2 weeks ago. It was exciting til you realize how many screws have to go in. 😂 Nothing like the satisfying feeling of having the roof on and dried in!
Gram. You make my day! Please be safe and you brought back nice memories for me teaching my kids how to ride! God bless
Good to see you have it all dried in now ! That cabin will live for years now :) I put tin on mine last summer it was a good feeling when I put the last screw in :)
Massive progress! Thanks for taking us along. And the bonus of seeing your daughter learn to ride a two wheeler...awesome.
If you have a long enough ladder, you could lay it flat on the roof and pin the bottom so it can’t slide out.
Try wrapping the bait in cloth and then attaching the cloth to the trigger.. works for me with red squirrels!
Holy Woodness Bobsyouruncleness baby!!!! I love the progress of those and the cabin. And your daughter is absolutely amazing and I love to see the development happening right in front of us. I can’t believe how she’s starting to say all the things that you say lol. So, like your daughter says, keep getting after it.

Awesome roof color and roof. Really excited for you finishing this roof and getting this closed in. Great job!
1. Go Reese!! Awesome job, girl! 2. Go Graeme! Awesome job, man!
Love the video!! ❤ Your daughter is a sweetheart. That brings back memories of my dad teaching me how to ride bicycle at that age 😊 and I still love 😍 the memories and the bicycles 😅 😉 The roof color looks really nice on your cabin. Love your videos and mountain views. Enjoy your weekend! 🚶 💪 🏕 🚲 👧 😊 🙏 😉
You need to build yourself a ladder out of 2x4 that lays on the roof with a knee brace that goes down the other slope and acts as an anchor. You can do all your flashing and chimney work off it! Great work on the progress can't wait to see the finish

Yea that’s what I’ll have to do!
Best way to get duke is with a standard metal rat trap and use steel wool with peanut butter smashed into the wool as the bait, the steel wool gets stick in the incisors and springs the trap before they can escape
Great video you made it safe I was on the edge of my seat looks good.
Yeah baby!
Not a boring video. Been watching from the start i got just as much satisfaction with seeing the roof go on. Good job bro
For the next metal roof, I think the manufacturers normally say the order of installation/lapping direction should be based on the prevailing wind relative to your structure.
@WoodnessGoodness

That makes sense! So I should be good with the overlapping I’ve done!
As a 40 year old less QQ more pew pew... ;) Congrats on learning a bike for your little one btw :) She's so cute.
Bob's my uncle! Some good videos out there to identify if you have tennis elbow by doing some movements and grips. I've been fighting one for a couple months now, one of those massage gun impact things every night before bed has help get more blood flow to the area and break down the knots.

Looking great man! If I were you I’d check in with a local structural engineer for an opinion on that bracing. I bet they wouldn’t charge you much at all if you gave them photos marked up with member sizing and stuff. The bracing may be more effective if it’s actually attached to the inside of the footing post and run up to face of joist, for example (also the attachment method matters). I’ve consulted with engineers in this manner for small projects and only paid like $300. Worth it if you are still wondering about it! Keep building man! Oh and congrats on getting the kid riding on 2 wheels! My daughter just got there too - so fun!
34 is young man. I'm in my 50s and I have an injury of some kind every season that takes me out of cabin building. Knees, back, torn shoulder muscle. But I tell myself at least I started before I'm retired. I couldn't do it if I was in my 60s. Ps. Metal roof is it's own drip edge. 👍
@WoodnessGoodness

@RobertJLessard

@@WoodnessGoodness I can't see why you need it as long as there is enough lip at the bottom it will be enough for drip edge.
Sunday morning on one of my days off and a fresh video great way to start the day. Cabin is really starting to look like a cabin. Get a pair of converse all stars or similar type shoes. Over here Dunlop volleys are good for roofing. They grip really well
On my Alaska cabin build I bought a roof ladder attachment it’s 2 hooks on the top of the ladder and you can hook the ladder to the peak of the roof and use that to screw the last sheet of metal in.

Anyone else looking at that bike and thinking ‘it has no brakes’!! lol
I like to use an automatic center punch on the metal roof to create a dimple for the screw tip before driving. Makes it easier to start and put the screw where you want.
@WoodnessGoodness
2 ай бұрын
Yea usually I do too but these new screws I got have a really small thread for the metal then it gets bigger for the wood. Never used ones like these but they are handy!
I think that drip edge you got is meant for an eave with a gutter. It’s short so the gutter can fit under it
It’s leg day at the cabin and Graeme strains his groin 😂 ps I had 2 uncle Bob’s and a father in law name Bob, I’ve got it in spades. 😉
Can’t believe you’re managing to install the metal roof alone on this 12/12 pitch! That’s insane! And that trail cam footage was absolute gold 😂

When I did my chalet roof I did it in a rainstorm, it was a bugger but the payoff was awesome
You "need" to put the same roof sheet over the dookie shelter! 😊👌
looks great!
Looking good
Mr Rodent could be made a permanent guest by persuade him/her into more suitable alternative accommodations (an insulated plywood nest box of sorts) at or near the outhouse. Also leaving food at or very close to said accommodations should help keep Mr. Rodent out of the outhouse...
Video with daughter priceless!! Great job on the roof, color does look good.
True on the no training wheels. We took the pedals off and let ours scoot around to master the balance part and that was wayyy better than training wheels.

also just thinking. couldnt you tie a ladder to the rope at the ridge? and then as you add pieces you can slide the ladder over? just an idea because then you would have steps to walk up and down the roof.

Looks great so far. Are you going to have a clear space around the perimeter of the cabin for wild fire danager? Keep up the good work.
A lot of people put a ladder right on the metal roof to do the last piece.
Hi uncle Bob🎉
big smiles over here watching Reese learn without training wheels. I learned on a hill and my friends put me on a bike and pushed me down for a faster running start. Needless to say... my first attempt I ended up crashing into a neighbors tree. My only braking system was my nuts.... yes... I said nuts ... as my nuts slammed into the base of the tree trunk. needless to say, I didn't get up for a while. bwahahaha.

Nice
I just installed a similar 12/12 roof on a cabin last year. Here's a tip. Try building a platform/scaffold screwed into the side of the cabin and attached with stilts that reach the ground on the outside. What's great about this is that you can take your ladder up there and anchor it to the platform while laying the ladder directly on the roof. You'll use it not only to install the roof but also the trim and ridge cap. It made things so much easier. Love your build. Coming along very nice. Cheers!

Why not use your ladder fully? Extend it out and lay it flat against the tin roof from the ground. Should reach half way up the roof?

Nice work Graham. That's a lot of metal. I'm not gonna lie, seeing your rope break over the edge of the sheets kinda freaked me out. Better inspect that rope to make sure it didn't get cut. Tape a softener to the rope where it's gonna rub. It can save your life. Bobs your uncle

Weird roofing tip for metal roofs I heard from our teams when I was the director of ops for a roofing company. Mountain Dew. They would splash on the panels to make them sticky and easier to walk on. And then the rain would wash it off. I guess any sugary beverage would work.

The roof looks fantastic! I've done one metal roof and was told the fasteners were to go through the ribs. Any thoughts flats vs ribs?
@WoodnessGoodness

Yea honestly not sure! The install instructions and supplier said to do flat beside rips. Not sure why but I’ve seen it done this way here a lot.
I got tennis elbow from using a hammer installing a shingle roof on an Appalachian Service Project trip. I swear the doctors' bills exceeded the value I provided.

Man it hurts! I think I over did it with t he heavy nail gun last week haha.
What prevents the fasteners from becoming water ingress points? Is there some kind of o-ring-like material under the screw head, or do we just not care about a bit of water getting into the strapping?
@WoodnessGoodness
2 ай бұрын
Yes there’s a metal washer that compresses a rubber gasket against the metal. When properly installed, it has a 50 year lifespan. Very popular around here…
Another great episode brother! How many acres you have at the off grid cabin?

It’s about 48! But because of the hills it feels like a 100 when your hiking through it.
Great job, but seeing you handle sheet metal without any gloves on is making me nervous. Especially in such unstable positions. Wouldnt want you to slice your hand open on the edge of one of those sheets. Edit: Okay nevermind, you put some on after the first sheet. Good to see.
