    Just bought 76 CB550, overal decent just the gas tank is shite.you have given me some great ideas for next build, the tear down put back together are so helpful.

    Thanks man! The clutch basket was not vapor blasted, I just cleaned it up in my wash tank.

    Hello like your channel I’m trying to find piggyback shocks for my 1975 Honda CB 550 F any suggestions I see you have Olens on yours but they’re extremely expensive any other ideas? I’m just kind of going for the look of the piggyback but obviously something that will perform on the rebound, thank jack

    For the tape on the rims I have used duct tape and it still holding pressure 2 years down the line

    I've got decent knowledge about cars and have always wanted to build a cafe racer/scrambler for commuting around town. Yet I have very little/no motorcycle experience. If I was to "build" my own bike what's one thing I should avoid at all costs and what is a good indicator for a good bike to get? (I'm also looking for a Honda CB due to me having good Honda car knowledge)

    It would be easy for you to jump into a CB with your knowledge of cars. Avoid a basket case at all cost, unless it’s an addition to a complete bike. If you start with a bike that is somewhat rolling and complete or in the best case, running… then you know that all of the little parts are there. Things like spacers, engine hangers, one off weird size bolts, axels all add up in cost if you don’t have them and it’s cheaper to restore the parts in some cases then replace them entirely. CB550 Crankshaft and connecting rod bearings are becoming nearly impossible to find however out of the (7) 550 engines I’ve rebuilt, all the bearings were within spec with quite a bit more life tolerated in clearances. I was lucky and found bearings in Europe and replaced them, but it wasn’t needed. Let’s talk about Carbs. Dialing in the carbs on the cb is the biggest pain in a$$. These bikes were built during a time where Honda really wanted to hit emission marks and specifically made the OEM carbs on most of the CB’s run the best with the stock airbox. Contrary to the belief that more air in > bigger ignition > more air out would make these bike breath better and increase power. There’s just no way around it. The stock carbs like a pull of calm,stable air that the airbox creates. The first thing most people do is pull the box off and add pod filters and it makes the bike erratic, not want to idle and have a flat spot right at the bottom of the power curve. With some tuning you can get them to work “ok” but not as smooth and consistent as the stock airbox. Some CB750 carbs are better than others and offer more tolerance with aftermarket filters. My solution to this is to run new Kehien CR26 racing carbs which allow unlimited tune ability and increase power in the traditional way. More fuel, more air, bigger/tighter boom, more air out as efficiently as possible. Other than what I listed above. They are awesome bikes and with some knowledge of what your getting into you’ll have a great time building one. 👊🏻

    Just finished my cb550 engine rebuild and have a pile of those bags dotted around (all torn not cut)

    haha I went to scissors and never looked back, although I think theres a pile or torn OEM honda bags behind the work bench.
