Building A Large Mezzanine With Stair Case
In this video, we add a large mezzanine and stair case to one of our previous build series. Adding this large mezzanine allowed our client to utilize a ton more space in his shop, and by having the large stair case, it will easily be accessible even when carrying items to or from the storage space.
Building a mezzanine is a great cost effective way to gain additional storage in a shop or garage without needing to make the footprint larger.
If you want to go watch this building be erected as a full build series, below is the link.

*Very easy to set up and use, attractive but be sure you understand the height--it's not tall. The heat is not overwhelming, but steady and pleasant fireplace **fireplace.homes** . It's quiet, too. I like the possibility of easily moving it from room to room in the event we want supplemental heat elsewhere. Definitely a good buy.*
With Ryan's kzread.infoUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
That comment about the screw and how it cuts into the wood is literally the reason why I enjoy your channel. Small details that will never be seen is the type of dude I want building for me and well worth any amount you charge. I wish I had the land to have you build me a shop.
Kudos Kyle & Co. This is a young man's work and you guys rock. I'm over 60 now, and drove tractor trailers most of my life until I blew out my back. Recently had to put all my schtuff into storage, our home and my shop. Saw a 12' x 40' stall where a tenant had built a loft to stow some of his stuff and I asked the owner of the storage facility if I could build one of these mezzanines inside my unit. Long story short . . . He loved what I did (six months ago) and now I have built a total of three of these, including one for the owner himself - with "Folding" stairs ! He's very excited about it and asked me to get some sort of list to show his other tenants. So now I have a "brochure" and have two more jobs pending already ! In order to speed things up and be able to make intelligent estimates for my materials and labor I started brushing up on my 3-D modeling using SketchUp. I studied Autodesk Maya in college some ten years ago after blowing out my back, but SketchUp is just fine for this stuff. Then I run across your videos ! I subbed after the first video, actually only halfway through. I knew I wanted to see more of your work. Great stuff dude. Really, you do good work. Thanks for the videos too. Like I said, this work is for young guys like yourself. My back is killing me, but I need the income and can't, absolutely CAN'T drive a truck anymore. I work for myself and I can pace myself according to my bodies abilities. Looking forward to many more videos . . . Currently binging out on - Part 3: 80' Truss Install With 2 Guys: Large WorkShop series. Love it guys !
This dude has more tools than Norm. Love it!
Dude, when I watch videos of experienced craftsmen at work, it puts my ego in check. Makes me wanna tear out what I built in my barn and start over. Great video!
I really like how you take the time at key points to explain what you’re doing. These small tips are invaluable! Thanks for sharing them.
Perfect vid on the mezz! Thanks for posting this. My plans are coming together for my shop project.
You and your company does such a good job! Thanks for the donation.
nicely done. Great attention t detail. THANK you for making all the edges of the subfloor blue across the length.
That came out as perfect as you could imagine.
Just a beautiful job Kyle as always. Well thought out and clear. That’s one happy customer I imagine!
Love watching you guys using pine, working with a such soft timber sure makes things look easy, where I live we use Jarrah for building timbers, when I was poor I used recycled Jarrah, man that's as hard as steel, every piece has to be predrilled.
This guy is a phenomenal carpenter. Crazy good skill.
OUTSTANDING
I love my mezzanine in my shed. Not only does it give me the room up above for storage, but also a lockable, heated room down below and an area for hardware where the ceiling is 8' and can be lighted real well. They make a lot of extra usable space if your not parking big machinery back there.
After watching your videos, you’ve convinced me I need a mezzanine when I build my shop. Greatly increases storage while losing very minimal floor space.

hell yeah.. how else you gonna watch the game while looking at your toys? Plus you can use under the mezz for racks and racks of parts storage bins ;-)
Amazing work as always! Watching this the day after I built my (much smaller) garage loft (probably should have watched before lol). GRK should sponsor Kyle. Because of him, I don't think twice about spending extra for them. They're a joy to use.
Awesome addition to the workspace!
I appreciate you doing a separate video on the staircase!
How could 99 people dislike this. What’s to dislike.Good work, built well. Well done.

I really like the stair detail around that pipe 👌🏼
Well done guys. Thanks for sharing your knowledge..
Looks amazing
One of my favorite videos from your channel.
This build quality is so high. I would love working with this guy.
GRK is all we use! Love Them!
Great vid Kyle, you must love the change here and there , building a mezzanine in between post frames gotta be fun haha for me I build houses and when it comes to the finish Carpentry/fixout ( we call it) it’s a great change
Not intended as criticism.....those 2x12's became 2x10's(looks like an 1- 1/2" notch) when you notched the bottom of those joists and header ......Love your work ethic and your laser straight buildings. I really enjoy watching you join 2 pieces of metal together, pure art.
The attention to detail is impressive. Wish this kind of work ethic was more common these days
Amazingly satisfying to watch
Brilliant job!.
Fantastic quality in your work.thanks for all the detailed explanation.
Very impressive... Excellent quality workmanship
Looks like a good winter project working indoors
Thanks for pasting. I am wanting to do one my self. Great job
I have the m12 version of that caulk gun. I use it it a lot between roofing and remodeling. It is truly a game changer.
It is a pleasure to see someone not simply cut past the line to remove a notch when framing or making a stringer.
Man even though it is just a shop you attention to detail and precision is outstanding probably better than most contractors who build houses. Me and my dad used to build pole barn garages back in the early nineties.
Very impressive builders. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
LOL "1/8 inch off...have to live with that" I literally laughed out loud. Love your work. Keep it up...

Who’d have thought that one day, we’d all be using battery powered cordless caulk gun😅; but OH MY.....DOES IT TRULY help the job go faster, & help your hands/arms from not “tiring” from a long day of caulking😉 Loft looks great, waiting to see the next video now😊 Cheers✌🏼

Thanks for posting. Very nice work.
I like all the cord less/hose less power tools. Reduce trip hazards, tangled mess of cords etc. Plus the $ cost of replacing or repairing damaged cords and hoses. Anyhoo another great build by you guys.
Thank you for this video.

Assuming that your client is going to complete the handrail at a later date? Another AWESOME build. You guys ROCK!
Would love for you to build a shop for me! Love the attention to detail you and your team displays!
This young guy is still learning this business. Got a long way to go. Keep at it.
Been waiting on a video of you guys building a mezzanine, awesome
Absolutely love RR. Everything so professional and clean
This is timely... I'm currently building out a mezzanine for my shop. But after watching all of this, I'm glad I chose to build it out of steel.

Why
@EcoMouseChannel
3 жыл бұрын
@@user-hd8ej8yx9p Steel is forever, I can store heavy and functional equipment on the top. Plus it was actually pretty fast to make from scratch. The stairs were the only thing that took the most individual time out of the whole project.

did you save on labor cost or did the materials catch up? how much space is yours taking up, looking to build a second floor.
@EcoMouseChannel
2 жыл бұрын
@@mysteriousknowledgetexts9809 I ended up going with steel pallet racking as my base legs. I saved tons of money, plus I can literally store tons on top. I did in fact make a stair case out of steel tubing, tread plate etc. I have about 420 sq ft. And with every two sections of pallet rack I add, I can increase the floor space by 210 sq ft. I made the decking out of two layers of opposite stacked 4x8 heavy duty plywood, screwed to a steel ladder frame that I lifted in place with a forklift into three sections that I was able to bolt together once laid on top of the pallet racking. The whole project only cost me $1800 for everything.

@@EcoMouseChannel not to mention it won't get squeaky over time. currently living in a townhouse and the stairs and upper floor are so noisy to the point it gets on my nerves.
Cannot find guys to do nice accurate work like this. The disaster stories I could tell are mind boggling.
Looks great nice looking job guys !!
Love watching you guys put up the buildings, mostly because of your attention to detail and it's obvious that you take pride in your work. Keep up the good work. also like to see the interior finishing when you do it and the completed buildings even if you don't do all the inside work.
Us folk down south call that a loft🤣 great video
Looking good
Kyle, if I EVER win the lottery YOU will build my dream barn! You do EXCELLENT work brother! Love your videos
Good job. Looks perfect. Bounce goes the Makita impact driver, but hey, Makita just keeps going. Even after a 2-2,5meter drop. Thumbs up to you all, for making great content and fantastic builds.

Quality construction and well edited video.
Great job guys as normal
Great job
Kyle the mezzanine makes an already amazing shop perfect! I am sure your client is thrilled with how his building turned out!
One last quick note: the automatic garage doors w/ the motors etc....fastened to the wall right by the door itself; w/o having to run the long “standard” tracks.....are awesome to use & definitely the way to go for a workshop, commercial project, & even your own residential home garage door💪🏼👍🏻
as a weekend home hobbyist I love your videos. Thought I doubt I'll ever build anything as extravagant as you guys do, I find myself learning new tips and better processes to do regular tasks easier/better/safer and more efficient. Keep up the great videos guys! Lots of videos saved to remind me how to do things when I eventually build my modest 1000sq foot shop on my property.
