Building a Custom 1948 Harley-Davidson Panhead: Inertia Starter System for a Motorcycle
Let's continue on the journey of building a one-of-a-kind custom 1948 Harley-Davidson Panhead motorcycle talking about the inertia starter.
What sets this 1948 Harley Panhead apart is its fascinating inertial start system. Instead of relying on a conventional electric starter, this motorcycle utilizes an inertia mechanism that harnesses the power of its own momentum to kick-start the engine. It's a thrilling experience that transports you back to a time when motorcycles were raw, untamed, and full of character.
Whether you're a dedicated motorcycle enthusiast, a history buff, or simply someone who appreciates art on two wheels, I hope this custom 1948 Harley Panhead with an inertia start will intrigue you.

Man, I will forever be amazed with the craftsmanship of this thing. Seriously a badass build and I'd love to see it in person one day.

Haha I think the closest to that is Gettysburg
This is the most interesting and original build I've ever seen! How dare you try something other than building yet another generic "cholo" bike or sticking a massive wheel and bags on a trailer queen. Incredible work!

Thanks so much I really appreciate it
It'd be awesome if a company could build one that directly replaces the electric starter so that you wouldn't need extra gears and chain.
There's companies that make spring bases inertia starters for diesels. With an sae dual starter bell housing, you can run both inertia and electrical.
It is by sound that’s a true Harley. Harleys are built specifically on sound . So great job
Coolest concept I've ever seen with a motorcycle - awesome thinking and brilliant engineering! Great job!

This gorgeous build has inspired me to put an inertia starter on my 78 bronco. Thank you.
Damn, that's a hell of a custom. I also love how that front part of the frame looks like a big ass chain wrapping from the gas tank to the underside of the bike
Wow. That’s really truly impressive. Good job man.

Your build is the coolest build I have ever had the privilege of seeing. This is the type of build that is way beyond the usual and brings back cool past engineering and modern engineering and the beauty in both . This and Jessie James copper bike are my all time favorite bikes . That speak to me . Just amazing.

Its so refreshing to see someone doing things a little funky and innovative I am sick to death of seeing the narrow/skinny shit most builders are doing Kudos to your vision and fabrication

How refreshing to see something completely out of the ordinary. I'm a big fan of Indian Larry's term,"Gizmoness". The more gizmos the better, screw practical. And as far as open chains go, people forget that motorcycles are in themselves inherently dangerous. Amazing job and great engineering skills.

PANHEADS FOREVER
Killer killer work! Im headed to ebay to look for inertia starters 😂 i weld up merlin engine cylinder heads at work all the time. The stuff we were making back in the 40s is fascinating. Is this bike ever going to be around michigan so i can see it in person?

You should do a video on the fewest cranks needed to fire the engine up. 👍

@@axtion88jackson Nice! It will be really interesting to see how few it will actually take! I'm stoked! If it fires right up after only a few cranks, I feel like it will just add to cool factor. It should also add a considerable amount of time to its longevity.
This this is absolutely amazing! 🤘

Ever thought of using it as a kinetic energy recovery device? You hit a lever and use it to slow down and stop. When the light turns green, use it to pull away without burning too much petrol.
I had the idea of using an inertia starter years ago when I built my bike. But they are a rare unadvertised item. And really were back then. I hate batteries and electrical items. Kick start is one crank around, so inertia or spring starters it is.

On one short, some dude with a guy on a SPORTSTER in his Avatar called this dude a poser cause he trailered his bike to the contest. lol lol lol lol Not only a Sportster, but a stripped down one looking just like he wishes he was in Sons Of Anarchy lol lol
Here he starts it if anyone interested in learning more about his build kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJyBmaZsdZe3opM.html
So when are you going to start selling conversion kits LOL
