Total fantasy: But what if we use remote control planes to do the dog-fight for us within the future? The year would be like, 2050 or 2060, and humans would no longer pilot planes within planes, but rather somewhere on the ground. Therefore decreasing the percentage of deaths within mid-air battles by a lot. Although there is a lot of flaws with this, it's just a cool thought that I'd like to share about. But like, with remote control planes, you wouldn't need to worry about G force or death. But you would need to worry about the distance, and how strong your connection with that plane is. Lose connection, and that plane is going to fly into the ground. You can also have your plane hijacked, but I'd hope that they'd fixed that with super powerful malware defenses. _Tesla, but planes_ lol

@@InterplanetaryLuis I have never tried an RC plane and most of the pilots I know have not....but I have used a simulator so I think it would be a lot like that because like with a simulator, you don't get to *feel* the plane. I wonder how hard it would be to interface their setup with some of the more advanced flight sim controllers out there like the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS (the stick can be modified to be longer which I have done) and MFG Crosswind pedals to give a heavier feel.

@@StigBSivertsen It's been done for 1/10 rwd drift cars but, never seen it on an aircraft. Getting the gyro/accelerometer data sent down with the telemetry to the TX would be ideal for simplicity and probably lower latency. I know that data should be available in mavlink/MWC but, then it's a matter of taking that raw data and creating an algo to interpret it for feedback. You're gonna need to be familiar with coding and pid loops and then probably a decent amount of hours of your time this is before even thinking about the physical build.

Very well done! Bruce Simpson started something like this a while back, but I don’t think he’s finished it yet. There was another chap who built an enclosed trailer containing a hooded cockpit with a large monitor for the visuals, ventilation fans, etc... so these things are out there, but yours seems to offer the most bang for the bucks. I’m really looking forward to future episodes! On a related note, you could probably adapt a throttle/stick/rudder gaming setup by wiring the various switches to modes, rates, etc. on the transmitter board. That would give a more natural feeling in the stick too. Whatever, you done good, so hurray! :-D

They then quickly sent a new one, but was bent and creased worse than the first. Just handling, not their fault. When I contacted them they were so surprised by the poor handling of the postal service that they sent me two, yes two kits and 5 gremlin posters signed by everyone at Flite Test. You will never find better customer service, as you found out, than at Flitetest!!!

For the pedals, you make want to make them adjustable so kids feet can reach. You could also add springs in reverse on them to act as that push you mentioned. Think of two mouse trap springs applying force in opposite directions while the bungees balance the load

That was totally amazing! I remember back in the '90's where one of the Model Airplane News guys (he wore a visor with the bill of it cut back for RC flying) reviewed a side stick transmitter. The box was strapped to your fore arm, and it had a side stick (like a fighter jet) that would fit in your hand for line of sight flying. I've never seen one since...but this one is a dream come true. Nice work!

Awesome cockpit boys! For some feedback you could always hook up a fan in front of you and a rudder behind. Wind in your face and that chair would 360 degree pivot nicely with a rudder behind it for real feedback.

I built something called the "fly seat" for a lab at WPAFB in the '70's. It had stick, rudder, throttle and space for the RC transmitter at the end. The seat and controls were placed on top of a pivot so an assistant could point the "pilot" toward the plane being controlled. Don Lowe was doing some if the early work on RPVs.

Instead of having to wear VR and get in a driving set to play Forza Horizon, I think its better if i just put cameras in my Airbus and explore the real world while seating on my newly working RC driving seat. My friends and i even argue with who goes first lol

This is one of the dest, most interesting, most intriguing and most inspiring video you guys have ever made. I have been wanting to build one of these for years but was going about it down a different more complicated road trying to use a Arduino board, RF module, complex code, a computer joystick, throttle quadrant and rudder pedals. I could kick myself for not thinking of this! I am building one this weekend.
