Graeme sitting up in the loft having a conversation with Don Commentsectione. "I'mma make you a comment you can't ignore, Graeme. You shall thank me for this later."
@10:48 - You're dad in the background trying to out smart Duke is a nice cinematic touch.

I liked how his parents were both still for like 10 seconds, and then both decided to move at the exact same time. Talk about being on the same wavelength….
You have the best intro montage of all the KZreadrs out there. And this is coming from a semi-professional amateur photographer.

Lord have mercy I’ve made it!!! Let’s go baby!!!!
Holy Woodness Momsarockstarness baby!!!! Let me make this perfectly clear my brother. Mom out worked you and Dad without even breaking a sweat today. You guys need to take a lesson from mom‘s playbook. I love the way everything is turning out, and the Dookie den looks better darker and the loft is really taking shape. Your godfather impression needs a little work buddy lol. And I think you need a few more two by fours just for the hell of it 😂. Keep getting after it big G. And if you ever want to finish this cabin, make sure you bring Mom with you every time lol.
16:20 The rest of the cabin might fall apart, blow over or tumble down the mountain, but in a 1000 years from now one thing will still be holding up that loft: this quadruple steel reinforced lag screwed load bearing header! You are doing such an awesome job, Graeme!

Totally thought you were going to end this sentence with "but in 1000 years from now one thing will still be holding up, and that's Duke"!
Love your sense of humour, so entertaining
That was smart Painting those cieling boards white cusps to your mom. ❤
Kid. You are so lucky to have your parents! Embrace and enjoy!! Keep up the good work and the comedy is a bonus 😂

Not only funny but you can build💪🏻 You’re the best Gram! Paint the whole thing black, it will look like a cool loo🚽
Saturdays + Cabin Videos 🤝
Oh my goodness! You weren’t supporting a second story, you were supporting a balcony with a bed on it! Some KZread viewers have to put in their$.02 worth when they could have just enjoyed your video! You could have had a square dance on that floor and it wouldn’t have moved! Can’t imagine dealing with these armchair architects who have likely never built anything bigger than a garden shed! You’re doing good work and that cabin is going to look amazing and serve the purpose which it is intended to serve!

It wasn't about it being able to support it. The issue was longevity related to the door frame and having it cause issues closing the door over time. In my opinion what he did was a perfect fix. Good job.
Woodness goodness and a little bit of steel👌
Lookin’ good! I love seeing your parents help you - great memories being made. 🩵
Fine job there pepperoni 😎
Love seeing the progress! Looking good!
Awesome as always. It'll be great seeing this finished.
So glad you fixed it !!
I look forward to your cabin videos every Saturday!
Happy Easter! Nice to see Mom and Dad.
Looking great! Watching from up north and downeast in PEI
coming along! two solid floors to work from now -- progress.
Great call with the steel bar. Its all coming together now!
Your content is great, always entertaining 👍 great work
Great team work makes the dream work!! Lovely to see your mum and dad joining you in building this cabin. Thanks for a great video once again! 😀
Excellent video. Nice to see the folks help out. Easy to see where you get your positive attitude. Great fix for the header, now you can sleep at night.
😅😅 great impression... Don't listen to these people that think they know everything... Your doing great ..
Congrats on 200k. Looks awesome

Sending a ton of positive energy your way Graeme. Your videos over the last few years have provided me with mental health when I've been going through tough times. Seeing you and your parents getting after it and you figuring out, learning and making it work on the go to come up with something amazing in front of an audience is inspirational...now I'm just wondering when you're going to pull up that teardrop camper and stay overnight. ;-) (that was the first video that brought me to you and I loved your vision of a mobile sleep/work station).

Haha that’s epic man. Really encourages me to read this. Seriously. I’ve gone through my fair share of mental lows so honestly I’m touched that doing this was able to provide a little encouragement. Much love man. The best is yet to come.
Your mom did a pine job sprucing up your floor! ❤️🇨🇦
Haha! Man y'all are a great team! You're hilarious man.
Gram, your videos are great and the cabin is coming along so nicely! I appreciate you attitude, I'm currently building a truck camper using light materials I haven't ever built with before and its been a great learning experience. You inspire me to keep going even though I don't know what I'm doing, thank you for that! Looking forward to seeing more progress on the cabin!

Man that is some beefy headers. Great job!! With the steel it won't sag. For the stairs have seen some videos of stairs that fold and go against the wall. Seems like overkill, but gives you space when not in use. I would put the stairs on a track with wheels on bottom like a barn door. Then you can move from side to side when needed. Love the build man!!

.. old English ladders on some kind of caster/coaster rack deals, add the folding ladder to it...nice idea.....

Yea I thought about that but the pitch of the roof wouldn’t allow you to walk up them at the top…needs to be somewhere in the middle I think
Bro! You just substantiated it beautifully. Well done. Probably was sufficient enough for the loft on hindsight but that steel LVL? Money dude! Let’s go!!
Don't you think you should add a couple more 2x6's next to that door 😂😂😂😂 just kidding Graeme great work, I love the progress. Cabin is looking great!
Clever solution for the loft beam!

Doing the king and jack studs like that was genius!! I thought you’d have to throw a couple more jacks in and reduce your door width!
I'm also building a cabin in the mountains right now and something I learned is that king studs are just as, or maybe more, important than jacks according to some folks! I'm not consulting any engineers but other folks online have said that their engineers will often put more king studs than jacks when there's a heavy load. I guess it helps keep things straight more than the jacks. BUT I'm sure you're fine don't go put any more kings in there you've done enough.
krásná práce
Well it wasn’t going anywhere before the steel plate now it is there for good. The floor/ceiling being painted before you put it up was a great idea. As you can leave the runners/joists/rafters unpainted if you so wish with out the hassle of trying to paint around them. Two tone the door. Just the door.
Woodness, the good thing is that when we watch you make all these mistakes, it means when we build our own cabins in the future, we won't fall into the same traps. Thank you! ... Which means we'll fall into other traps, but that's the way of things, eh? Also, the sticker you sent a few years ago is still happily living on my fridge.

Add thoses windows at the low level... it's going to be worth it!
Shameless stainless steel for the win!
What you need when drilling is oil to cool and lube. No oil and you’ll kill the bit in no time.
I don’t know, your work looks sturdy enough to me. ❤. I’ve seen videos where a frame was built with 2x2s 😳. I think you’re being very meticulous with your build. Great job.

Love the parental supervision time. Not sure what the steel plate did for you. But it sure looks impressive now.
KZread is a place to learn things and a place where they tell you what your doing wrong. 👍 yep. Thats funny.
Good stuff! My ocd says to put one last header bellow that beam to make it flush :D and As I said in your last video, switch the front angled windows with back ones, that way you will have better view in the front and lower edge of the window wont be that low in the loft :)
@WoodnessGoodness

Trust me your comment is lingering in my brain. I think it’s the play!
Not sure if that header will be strong enough! Might need a second 1/8 steel plate. 😂😂😂just kidding..😂 that ain’t going nowhere. Been enjoying the progress. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder if the stilts that the cabin is mounted to will support all that weight so that the whole cabin doesn't go rolling end over end down the hill? Maybe some steel cable X bracing from one split to another??? Dookie will appreciate you staining his house
Your critters need some sleepy time snacks! Those wires will taste nice!
I remember when we bullied you into buying the Milwaukee framing nailer, and now you can't put it down 😂

Your are a thing of beauty and a glutton for punishment. Ring shanked nails might have prevented me from going any further. Very solid now I would say. Do you have a pro deal with GRK or something haha. Also loving the ebony stain....hope your thinking a dark siding colour for the cabin. Good stuff all around.
That header is so overkill! You wasted so much time and energy! Haha jk good job!
Leave the plywood that is there on the side pointing to the view. You need as much lateral support on that wall as you can get. That's plenty of glass up high anyway. People aren't going up into the loft to look at the view. They're sleeping I'm sure....
Looks beautiful, metal plate should support a good thrust session with force up to greek god.

@@WoodnessGoodness it's been a couple hours but my recollection is that you put the bolts though one 2 by, the 1/8 in plate, and I think one more 2 by behind the plate. That's 3 1/8 plus osb. Maybe I misinterpreted the depth. I'll go back and look again shortly
Man I haven’t been keeping up with the videos but since I last watched I also got a Milwaukee framing nailer. My lanta is that thing a dream. Only thing I don’t like about it is it can’t hold two clips, is yours the same Gram?
@WoodnessGoodness

Yea! It’s the same! Dumb design but you can upgrade it for $100. Seems a little pricey but I might end up doing it
Bro, I did not get what others said but it seems that the only enemy is wind over there, the structure itself was fine as it is without that way over the top metal plate, concentrate on having the roof secure and the building secured on the ground.
As an professional amateur myself I'm now happy with your steel lam header! I've seen that done quite a bit over long headers like garage bays. I see something else you did wrong but I won't mention it until it's way to late to fix it! Jk lol 😂😂😂

Timber Pro UV is just part of our brand name. Our eco-friendly, non-flammable stains are super durable against harsh weather conditions, including UV exposure from the sun! Each coat fully dries in about 5-6 hours when temps are between 50-70 degrees, but can take longer than that when it's colder outside.
Think you will be sorry if you dont put glass in those spots. Your cabin so your decision, but IMO it will be much better view out gable end with glass? Either way its gona be a great place to hang out!!!
