Building a Better Ball Mill

My dad helped me rebuild the ball mill so that is far better and can actually crush ore by the bucket load.

    I don't think he's blaming others. Dads make a huge difference, that's just a fact. Sure, you got to bear it if your dad sucks. You got no other choice. But, remember that dads or future dads might be reading this, and they have responsibilities too. Being a good dad is a much bigger responsibility than being a good son, until that son grows up and has to take responsibility for himself.

    my dad says wi-fi is bad for your health. Meanwhile, he's surronded by light 100 000 times stronger and doesn't die instantly. Strange... and idk what light could do if it's not ionizing.

    @Dan Bourget You're making logical fallacies and assumptions on a severely lacking premise. It was never stated anywhere that the poster "got nowhere in life". That is a condescending conclusion made up by you. The poster said that his dad made his life miserable until he was big enough to stand up to him, which something else entirely, and you know it.

    When Cody and his Dad work together you really get to see how Cody’s love of recycling old machinery into built from the ground up equipment to sate his minds need for scientific enquiry comes from. Ranchers and farmers are never given enough credit for their intelligence and resourcefulness. Cody and Dad are a dream team 👍

    Along this line. A trick my dad taught me. Use a mountain bike derailer. Remove the gear and place a similar sized pulley. Also gives you adjustable tension which helps when later down the line you find your favorite belts aren't sold anymore and have to change to a brand that is slightly different.

    Sounds like you get your electricity from an old 1910 CP engine/alternator. As vid progressed, I seen your yard, and my sorta joke made more sense. Then,.. The Mine! That old engine noise just must be an old gen set. Am I right? Maybe if I watched more of your vids I would know. Your place would be heaven for me, nothing better than lots of cool things to do. I have a good bit of heaven here where I live too, but on a much smaller lot.

    Hey Cody, can you do some videos on that old hit and miss engine sometime? Also you might want to make a removable slide hopper that will give you like a big funnel to pour that material into so it will load the mill quicker. You could just slowly pour the bucket into it instead of going a pitcher at a time.

    So why not just put a door on an electric cement mixer? They average 28-30 rpm and can handle hundreds of pounds, with the added bonus of being tippable to empty. Would it be because the motor may not be able to run as long as required for a ball mill?

  • @KainYusanagi

    @KainYusanagi

    6 жыл бұрын

    Even then you can just replace the motor with one capable of doing so. Real reason is probably because they're expensive as heck compared to some old junk lying around that can be repurposed.

  • @jeffklaubo3168

    @jeffklaubo3168

    Kain Yusanagi true, I thought of that, but for its purpose, I figure one of them $200 northern tool deals would do just fine since interior fin design would be irrelevant if not removed entirely and commercial use probably isn't the plan for it.

    It can probably handle the weight, but I assume the metal is still relatively thin and the erosion from the balls and material will wear out through very quickly. Cement, having water, kinda lubricates the walls, and some cement dries up on the walls too and kinda protects them. The cheap ones are probably made of the lowest quality materials too. But basically i just think it would just get holes through it quickly

    Maybe I'm wrong, but as I understood you need center of rotation perpendicular to gravity (otherwise balls will stay in the bottom and all powder will stay on top). Also you need to be sure that everything that is placed inside of ball mill stays there, and open top won't make that easy.

  • @jeffklaubo3168

    @jeffklaubo3168

    MK I can see where you are coming from, some of it make sense, my main reason for asking is me and my dad used an electric cement mixer as a ball mill of sorts (similar in principle anyway) to hull hundreds of black walnuts at the same time though we added water as you stated, but it lasted 5 years before it quit and it was just a harbor freight special for $150 lol
