Shaker table will definitely be better at recovering finer gold and it will separate your sulfides so you can process those too. Try mounting your sluice close or flush to your outfeed so you don’t have that waterfall effect, and if you can get the sluice angle to have more agitation in the first third of the riffles you wont lose near as much fine gold. I had a sluice set up in a claim loaded with sulfides and very fine gold. I found the heavier sulfides filled up the riffles quite quickly and the lighter or finer gold wasn’t heavy enough to displace them, floating right off my sluice. The quick answer was more frequent clean ups, and then i built a 12’ sluice which made my whole operation much more efficient, and my recovery was way better. No matter the length of the sluice, its time to clean up when you see riffles full of sulfides on the last 5 or 6 inches of the sluice. Wish i had someone tell me that instead of countless hours of trial and error!! 😂. Great video man, i love your ingenuity, hope you hit the motherlode!!!!

Thanks heaps Isaac! Yes, that's exactly what I found with the sluice. Gold so fine it sits on top of the sulphides. The shaker deck I have installed now is heaps better! It's extremely hard to even throw a micro spec off the table and into the tailings now. I hope you check out some of my later vids to see it in action! Cheers

Nice man! Love all the damn brushwork. Dream matting is incredible at all flow rates. Captures micro flour, with an inch of river flow. Mind you, on the creek or river, 5 degrees is all I can manage. Flatter just means more flow thru, to push the garage blonde sands out. California is loaded with fines. Old boys could not capture that shit with nailed long Tom's. Floated right out I imagine

Complete Useless or maybe Blind Squirrel suggestions: If you have enough head in that water source, maybe use a ram pump to continuously fill your water tank? Would save a bit of petrol ... Cheers

I'd love to save some petrol. I've been concidering putting a 230v electric pump down on the dam so it keeps the tank topped up while the generator and plant is running. A ram pump may be a better solution

More money will be invested into the plant once I recoop some of the last investment. I've got some cool bits and pieces lined up! Might even be able to make the main adit here pay with some better recovery gear. Cant wait.

Got enough plant nearly to start processing mine run ore. Shaker table or a Knudsen or Falcon concentrator would be the final step. Maybe change the sluicebox to a pulse cell type. I have this type of system on my Rod Mill. Great Video as always Brian. I liked the stills of the old mining eqiupment at the end. Ive been on the lookout for a couple of dredge buckets for the front garden.

I've got a lead on a big wilfley table, just need to follow it up, fingers 🤞. I've also been on the hunt for a dredge bucket, there's a few around here lying around in people front yards, but none anyone has been willing to sell yet though. A friend worked his claim when it wasn't snowed in. He had a Monday through Friday job so he only got down to it on the weekends. He would just concentrate at the site. Hauling 5 tons home every week. He had a shop where he could make a mess and lots of noise. He would pile the concentrates inside all summer. Then spend winters working on his equipment. He never did clean it, all he did was concentrate. He had it assayed and sold it like that. If there is gold in the tailings, are they worth money to someone who has the equipment? It could be a few ounces per ton locked up in the sulfides/sulfates.

I understood what you were getting at and you're very right. However, my goal is to become that guy people give their concentrates to. It's a long term goal, but I feel it's a necessary goal to have if I'm going to claim the title of "Gold man" like I already have. I must have every skill necessary to do the entire process myself, and I will one day. I'm a persistent bugger lol

Hey bud great vid just curious on a few things like do u use a ratio of 2 3rds of steel balls an 1 3rd material, dont think ur ball mill has lined plating and if not what thickness is the drum and does it wear a lot. Also on the impact mill how much water do you run, i see u use 3/4 garden hose and do you think if you had paddles on the end of your chains would that add to much strain on the motor or just having a little water to get a soup mix going is enough. Cheers this would help heaps as my build for the impact mill is on the way but have to wait 4 weeks from the drill bits and milling bit to turn up.

G'day Eck, I've been waiting for your next line of questioning after putting out this vid! The ball mill is about 1/4-1/3 full of balls of various sizes. The materiel is fed in at a very low ration to the balls. Over feeding results in a bit of a slurry in there and it doesn't allow the balls to be lifted and dropped onto the materiel as well. The slower the better really. I would be estimating if I put a number on it, but for our mill I reckon it will handle 50kg/hr of over sized materiel no probs. I wouldn't want to push it much more than that I don't think. Fortunately the output of the impact mill passes pretty fine materiel and only perhaps 30-40% needs to be ground finer. The chains work well as is, I think the speed of them impacting the materiel is what makes the little impact mill so efficient. Increasing the size of the impactors would cause too much turbulence in there and would just result in the materiel getting spun around in the drum and causing excessive wear. I may be wrong on that, but it is my best current opinion. The water feed to the impact mill is just 12mm garden hose, it doesn't need much water at all. Just enough to soak all of the materiel and allow it to flow out the bottom. Too much water results in a fluid bed in the bottom of the mill and a reduction in the speed of the impactors. You can hear when there's too much water in there, the impactors can be heard slapping the water surface. There seems to be a pretty fine line of efficiency with the water feed in that regard. Oh, and the ball mill has no wear plates inside, but is either 20 or 25mm steel so I'm imagining it will have a very long life span. It doesn't seem to shed much metal at all surprisingly. I get much more shed metal from the impact mill. I bought the ball mill second hand, and apparently it had done ALOT of work previous to me getting it. Yet shows no real sign of wear yet. Apart from the pickup, which is rusted to hell!

Hey brian just a quick question bout the impact mill, did you have to add the clutch to the belts latter for adjusted tension? How long do the belts last and do they strech pritty quick? Do you think its something required? Cheers

Seen as the impact mill is powered by a 3ø motor they are under constant tension, not much tension mind you. When the impact mill had a petrol motor driving it, a tensioner was required to relieve the traction on the belts so you can pull start the motor. It was quite a pain actually! I would highly recommend going 3 phase electric if you have it available, even single phase electric would be tricky in this case. A 2.2kw single phase motor draws alot of current, and doesn't have anywhere near as much grunt as a 3 phase 2.2kw motor. The belts will last decades on the impact mill. The ball mill belts are under the tension of the motor weight and a spring down below it. That's ample to get traction on the mill, when it's not in use I relieve the pressure by lifting the motor up with some block of wood. That prevents the belts stretching excessively. Not necessarily, if it passes through the screen then it's crushed properly. If it goes out the end of the screen, I just tip it back into the ball mill for a second time 👍🏿. Ball mills are the best for that, seen as its very easy to adapt a rotating screen to the output.
