Building A 3D Printer Workshop Room

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I've finally finished my 3D Printing Studio in the new house! Just in time for....
I will be keeping the first office we built in the start of this series. Probably going to end up with more printers in it!

One last thing - you did what many people overlook - you went UP and maximized vertical space. As soon as I stopped thinking about my spaces in square foot terms and started thinking of them in CUBIC foot terms, it all got a lot easier/more organized.

Great job! I use MDF Hardwood. You could even use masonite for a desktop surface, but it looks like EVERYTHING is incredibly expensive! Another option is to see if you can snag a scrap countertop from your local building supply. When I built my house 30 yrs ago, the contractor ordered a wide countertop with an overhang to put bar stools on one side. Unfortunately, he also inserted a 16" cabinet which pushed that whole side of the kitchen 16" over in front of a glass sliding door! They returned that counter and brought one that wasn't as wide. The counter would have been considered as secondary stock marked down because it was cut to the wrong size. So, even though it was never installed or used it was sold for much cheaper! Stores will sometime flush stock... The Faux Marble that was in style LAST YEAR isn't in demand any more. The stock is taking up VALUABLE retail shelving space that could fetch to dollar for the NEW, TRENDY countertop, but they have to move the old one out... I bought shower doors for literally 5% of the original selling priced just b/c this chain wants to get rid of old stock! I'm US based, so store chains & prices are irrelevant, but I'm sure they have the same practices of getting rid of new old stock! Cheers!

Nice workshop! I do have a bunch of kids and 3d printers! The 3d printer is the best tool to have with childrens since it's not that dirty and most of them really silent 🙂 Now we have a larger house and i have a dedicated corner in a storage room for my old Tevo Tornado 🙂 but when i started in the hobby ~10 yrs ago with with a small flsun delta i had it standing in a Ikea kitchen cabinet that i bought for the cause, works wonderfully! As long as the pronters footprint is smaller then ~58x58 cm it fits inside, then i bought shelfs on rails inside with the printer on, for service i pulled it out. Beneath the shelf i mounted a drawer for misc parts and tools, a shelf above for filament storage, (today i would design/print some nice hanging filament holders so it would hang ready for use) put magnetic locks on the door to keep it from vibrating. A whole printer system in 60x60x140cm, quiet and invisible, all you need is a corner next to the computer table, i used that setup for years!

Thaaank you Karl! That sounds like a really nice setup with the IKEA cabinet system. I think thats the way to go unless you wanna get your hands dirty with some woodworking =). Yeah I'm looking forward to try to cultivate 3D Printing for my kid(s) when they are a bit older :D Just have to wait some haha...

@@3DPrintTechDesign it works Great, my big mistake was that when i got my tevo tornado i didn't account for the bed moving back and forth, i thing a printer like a core xy or a larger delta would be the Perfect to install in there 🙂 i biught a cabinet thats made for oven/microwave installation, the obvious upside is that it has slits for air both in the bottom and the top 👌🏻

Great job. It's always a satisfying feeling to custom build your own shelves/workbenches/etc. I built something similar and painted the lumber satin black and topped the shelves/workbench with the cheapest wood laminate flooring I could find (a little lighter than your floor). The blond wood against the satin black looks great - kind of industrial post-modern, like something out of an IKEA catalog. While I'm rambling - clear containers are always worth the $ upgrade as they make things less prone to just disappear (out of sight, out of mind). I don't know if these are available outside of the US, but for all of my projects I used Simpson Strong-Tie's bracket systems, specifically the RTC42 (real overkill - 4x4 uprights with 2x4 rails) and RTC2Z (2x4 uprights and 2x3 or 2x4 rails). The latter is available in a kit (WSBK Workbench Kit) that saves money over buying them individually. Lots of videos available showing projects built with them. Nice thing about those brackets is that it makes it so much easier to reconfigure shelf height/length as needed. It's almost like lumber LEGO. LOL Again, great job!

Thank you so much! Great tip on the bracket system, it looks cool but nothing I've seen here locally ). But yeah, for something more permanent (i knew this wouldn't last forever) I would probably look into that! Hopefully in my next house I'll have a single/double garage that can turn into a workshop... Hoping for it! And yes, Height for 3D-printers is superb! Specially for machines I know are low maintenance. Thank you John!

ya i like that idea of a smaller area to set up a printer, my 3d printer is still in the box, been like that for 3 months! cuz i havnt found a place to assemble it in the house quite yet!! shoot us some ideas!!! nice vid btw!! definitely learned alot

And the second nice thing with a printer is that you only need to get it started, then it'll mostly take care of itself. 🙂 Also, learn to swing the wagon with one foot, then you can get time on the computer while still make the baby comfortable/ go to sleep

Better yet, make a gcode that moves the hotend back and forth on your least favourite 3D printer, then tie a string between that and the baby cradle. Automated rocking = happy baby and happy parents, free to do some cadding or whatever.

@@PhG1961 right on, ya I think I'm finally gonna unbox my ender 3 today and assemble it, attempt to assemble it at least, lol.... Kind of intimidating tho. Do u at least have a printer up and running? If so, do you just kinda have a dedicated workspace set aside until you finish a "shop"?

@@ashadedreflection4486 I have a 3D printer up and ready, but because of the limited space, humidity and low temperature I haven't been printing in a while. The idea is to have a dedicated space and environment, but that will be next year the soonest. Good luck with the assembly of you Ender3. It should go well !
