I was the same with the Falcon but that's because I started it in 2020 when my little one was 3, she's now 6 and so much has changed in our lives between starting and finishing!!?

Believe me or not. I know a guy who owns one of the three actual R2D2's that were used in the first movie (Yep, he has the paperwork that comes with it). With this one you can play. The other one is on display not to be touched 😄. Good job! 🖖

Wayne, I can't bealive how lucky you are for having 2 R2-D2!... I build one from the first release here in Mexico and I miss working in the construction of this iconic droid... I hope some company release this colection colection again in my country! Thanks for the memories!

Wayne, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your R2-D2 build from the beginning. Your suggestions and tutorials have helped me to where I am now. I am patiently waiting for my issues 91-94 to come in next week. As you may recall, during the right leg build,if memory serves, I mentioned that I thought I was given the wrong parts. After tearing down the leg and rebuilding it, I realized that I had one of the stages backward, which, in turn, threw off the whole leg build. "Live, learn, then get Luvs (old Luvs diapers commercial 😂) I am getting a wee bit nervous about finishing this build as it comes to a close. I am physically challenged and thus far have done pretty well. These next 3 stages shall challenge me. As long as Murphy's law doesn't rear its head, I should be fine, but I have learned to always expect the unexpected. Anyway, sorry for the long "winded" comment. Thanks again, and THIS IS THE WAY.

Just wanted to say Thank You! I used a combination of the magazines and your Videos to help me put it all together and everything is working fine after 2 years and two months of building. Does anyone know where to get an acrylic case for this?

With all the bells and whistles R2 has, I'm surprised he does not indicate when he's charging and when fully charged. On builds like this with all it does, Stage 100 has to be a nerving Stage hoping everything works. And when it does - its Miller Time!

You talk about "weathering" the R2 Unit, but, with mine i am leaving him as is, so he looks like the way he was at the end of A New Hope, where he was "rebuilt" and was looking brand new, that is the way i want mine to look.

No. You charge while the batteries are in using the charger they sent. It won't look like he's charging unless you turn him on then a blue light will flash

I still haven't finished the R2 build from the first release of this kit. I became disheartened when I saw how little of the hologram messages they gave you. They have background music on them and everything. Would it have killed them to just have the dialogue and the full messages? It really spoilt the project for me.

It's a large scale toy. 31 inches which sadly is no longer available. It was £49 when it first came out but is selling for loads on ebay now

I can understand the direct smartphone connection (necessary to control it) but what good does connecting it to a local wi-fi network? Using it as a mobile surveillance unit that calls you if thieves are breking in when you are not at home?

Just saves all the faffing around connecting it. As soon as you turn it on it connects itself to the local wifi

Apologies for another question Sir...as I said I brought this droid as used and I did watch your video in minute 10:28...I see the doom has gap. Well mine here doesn't...it look sweet coz honestly I don't like any gap between the dome and the white main body but unfortunately the real this R2 has a gap between the dome and the white main body. I even look on your previous video the 97-98...I don't see anything wrong with mine. ..So do you know what may caused my R2 dome has no gap??...coz everytime the R2 is on the dome always stuck on the left side and right side...I think middle as well. Please guide me Sir....coz I really feel sad seeing my R2 dome can't move freely. Many thanks Sir.

I'm very sad. This model looks so amazing and I couldn't wait to build it for myself. Unfortunately, after I had subscribed and received the first three packages, I was charged for the fourth package, but now over a month later, the package has not shipped and when I try to contact Fanhome about the status of the package, all I get is a form email that says they will be shipping the package "soon". To anyone that may read this comment, I would strongly recommend AGAINST subscribing to any build from Fanhome.

hello, im missing the last two issue for my droid. I went the route of just buying from ebay. I spoke to Fanhome about getting just the two I need. The Rep had a interesting suggestion, she said If I knew someone that had finished theirt build I could call with that subscription number and ask for the two missing as replacements. Would anyone be willing to help me out. I understand if the answer is no.. I've been battling cancer and money has gotten low. I just hate seeing him sit there all this time waiting for my situation to change. Thank you, David

It may be better to ask in the Facebook group as I don't have a traditional "sub number" . Also you will find they will only post to that sub numbers address

Mine worked but then suddenly everything in the dome stopped working! No LEDs, lightsaber, projection etc! Any ideas?

Cable that links dome to motherboard I’m guessing. I bet it dislodged when head turned

@@aerialvideography6979 yer just reposition the cable to a different area of the y shaped mount. In todays video you see mine catch as well but luckily it sorted itself out

Just finished my r2 but unfortunately got an issues on start up. It jerks forward but head doesn’t turn. Red light on front. Any ideas please.

I didn’t fully charge one of the batteries but it was going up. Could it be this? I managed to get most of it working apart from the arms didn’t open and looks like one leg motor not working. Apart from that everything else works, head turns manually from app

Hi Wayne. I've completed my R2-D2 and all systems appear to work with the exception of the Mic, for voice commands, and the Video Control for the photo and video taking. The video does work but I get an error message on the app when I attempt to take a photo or video. Any ideas? Thanks. This is the way.

Not sure about the camera one I haven’t heard that before. Have you turned the microphone on in the app. I think it’s off by default

Check you primed the batteries, all connections and that the batteries aren't protected

Thank you I did primed the batteries and check all connections and they batteries are protected I even used the power cord and no power or lights completely dead it’s almost like there’s no power source to the motherboard

I got my SECOND shipment a couple days ago, so I have a LONG way to go. I am definitely using your guide to help me out! Can't wait until he's done, but I have a couple years to wait! I saw on the app you were using a charge state indicator. Maybe you can use that to know how much of a charge you have? I already have the batteries, but I can't see anything on them that says they are "unprotected"? They are 5000ma 3.7v Li-ion, and the number on them says 18650.

Hmmm.... how much to complete the entire R2-d2

Hello there Wayne. So I completed mine but now it wont fully boot up. Its not doing the jerk forward thing. Its making sound and its lighting up and the head turns. I even got it to connect to the app at one point. But it wont move no matter what. Any ideas where I can get some help with it? I have gone to the DiAgostini model site and it had some helpful words, but it didn't have much in the way of advice on the leg motors not responding. Each of them passed the individual tests while I was building it so I figured all would be good to go once I was complete, but Im getting nothing. Just looking for advice on where to go for ideas.

Sounds like a plug is not completely pushed in in the main control board. It’s a long job but I would remove all wires , check pins on control board and then put back in ensuring pushed in all the way
