BUILD UPDATE 8, 9 & 10 NAKAJIMA NATE, YOKOSUKA JUDY, KAWANISHI SHIDEN, AICHI SEIRAN. RISING SUN WEEK

Ойын-сауық

I hope you enjoy this video. I am currently off work for 12 days and have decided to try to complete 10 models in 10 day, i have chosen my Japanese collection of fighters and other small aircraft to complete this project, i shall also be consuming various Japanese snacks, treats and sweets and of course be enjoying some Japanese drinks. I have a model collection/stash of 33-40 1/72 Spitfires which i have been building badly for the amusement or to the annoyance of my fellow KZreadrs, As my competence levels increase i am looking to take on different and more complex models. As a novice modeller my intention is to learn the various assembly techniques and skills required, especially that of painting, so as i can produce half decent looking models, I concluded the best way to do this is to start with something simple, personally i think the best way to learn a new skill is repetition; try, try and try again. Hopefully by completing these 33 Spitfire models i will learn a few tricks of the trade. Whilst doing this I am also hoping to improve my VERY basic KZread skills, so far just uploading these videos has resulted in tantrums of titanic proportions, yes unfortunately i am also techno-phobic.
Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Please like and subscribe and follow me on my ride!

Thanks for your regular videos Andy. Really enjoyed keeping up with your holiday model builds, drinking and food sampling. I know how it can get, trying to reach a goal. Best to build at a more relaxed pace, keeps it fun.

LOL i started this Youtubing malarkey building kits in 15 to 20 mins, got it down so slick i did one in 1 min 36 seconds, so have been pretty chilled this week. obviously the end results are more satisfying now though, well when i finish them they will Ha.

Hi Andy. Well done. You took on an epic challenge and youfaced it down and got it done, again well done mate. Don't forget if you ever dislike one of your paint jobs just break out the primer and start again, make sure that you scrape off the decals first though, ( they will stand proud of the surface ). I personally would have left off the floats on the Sheiden to make it easier to paint them but we all have our different ways of doing things. Remember the only problem with building bigger aircraft is that there is a lot more detail, especially in the cockpits. And of course there's the problem of space to put them. Your bungalow must be as big as a palace. Films. Well the new version of Midway is a good film, the CGI is incredible, you,ll see what I mean when you watch the ol version. But it was good for its time. Tora Tora Tora is a given. I would have thought that you would be sick and tired of Japanese aircraft by now but you film choices clearly show that you have not quite finished with them yet. Also after eating all of those Japanese sweets (mostly made in England ) and all of that Japanese booze ( also mainly made in England ) your probably an overweight alcoholic, ha ha. I bet you can't wait to get back to work to burn off some of those calories. Anyway congratulations on your Japanese oddessy you nearly got it done. You must have red dots in your eyes now with all those roundels you,ve been looking at. Good videos too. Enjoy your films and your whiskey ( probably made in England ). Cheers mate.

LOL there is a special plan for the ones i am dissatisfied with...... on the end of a firework LOL. Sorry i have seen the new Midway and it is way to CGI reliant and cluttered for my liking, i also found the characters rather bland, but these things are each to there own and perhaps i should give it another go at some point.

Hi Andy. Ive gotta say mate, i reckon you've done an absolutely cracking job on your land of the rising sun builds! 👏👌 Extremely ambituous even for a seasoned modeller, let alone a novice in a midlife crisis! 🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though mate, congratulations on a really fantastic 10-12 days of building, ive really enjoyed every minute (also the unboxing vids too dont forget!) Always fun, entertaining, at times hilarious, but never boring! I think your builds are pretty impressive too, can't believe how good they all look. Ive said before, i cant buikd one in 4 weeks, never mind one a day! Hopefully the stress of it wont put you off as I would definitely miss your craziness! Anyhoo...... thanks for all your vids and hard work, appreciate the time you put in, and really enjoyed your series. I hope work isn't too much of a struggle when you go back. Take care mate, see you soon....... or ....... be seeing you! 😉👊

Cheers Bobby was fun to try to get a few builds under my belt, though i dont think i'll be attempting ten in a row again, It'll be nice to go back to work tonight for a bit of a rest LOL. Will be trying to get these finished off on my next 4 days off, and luckily i still have a stash of Japanese beer and snacks to see me through. Will be trying to get a WITB review done on each of the next fours days, but am going to change tack and do a few 1/35 land based, if aircraft are your thing i'll be back on to them next week Thanks for watching Be seeing you.

@@TheNoviceModelleryes work might be less stressful! 😂 The Japanese snacks and drinks were definitely something new and different and to be honest, made your vids different from the normal! You've got to have a snack or two to keep you going. I love the 1/35 armour stuff and built a load of Tamiya kits (some of them you have bought!) so will definitely be watching your unboxings and builds. I love most stuff to be honest, anything military, even cars and have built the odd big rig too, so whatever you do I'm sure I'll be interested. Take it easy mate and I'll catch ya later. 👍👊

Awesome job Andy, the entire series has been very cool, interesting, enjoyable, and entertaining. :) Cheers! If I may add, when doing camo or paint with brush make sure to still thin it so it's like a milky smooth base. This will help with the strokes you do so it looks smooth but still like it had been done in the field. Honestly, when you get down to brass tax, most camo patterns were done in the field whether they had paint guns or brushes or mops. :) You're doing excellent Andy!

You've really pushed yourself Andy. Apart from Tora Tora Tora and Midway, and your Suntory whisky, get hold of some Kurosawa films to get into the spirit-Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Rashomon, Hidden Fortress (a Star Wars inspiration) and Throne of Blood are good ones. Look forward to seeing the end results🙂

Very good movie selection, Andy. Pearl Harbor is more visual candy but still a good watch, Torax3 is more instructive, like a book made into a movie, which is a style I like but not very popular these days (a recent such movie is Deepwater Horizon). Also Torax3 gives much more of the Jpanese perspective, similar to Midway (Modern). Midway (Modern) was made with cooperation of US Navy, great watch, The Doolittle Raid was better portrayed in Pearl Harbor I think, but no harm watching a second time in Midway (Modern). Of course, 1976 Midway is still great, containing a lot of info not in Midway (Modern).

Andy , I'm envious, you're marching right along and doing a great job. I did like the hand painted scheme up front , it was something completely different .plus the Japanese " booze " looks interesting as well. Haven't figured out the candy yet :-) I'm taking a couple of days off till the weekend to step away from my road block. Then tackle these Spitfires again. If I can't get them going I am setting them aside and move on to something else. Oh, good movies. Pearl Harbor takes a lot of historical liberty but its still good.. Watch for the mistake in the carrier crash in Midway with Charleton Heston Cheers, Bob

Hi Bob not sure what the cause of your roadblock is with your Spits, but perhaps the best thing to do is to start something else and then revisit them a little later with a fresh mind. For myself personally i think in future well when i am a bit better at this malarkey i think i will have a couple of similar things on the go at the same time. i kinda cheated with this vid and worked all three together, all three cockpits were assembled and then painted in one session, and like i have hinted they are all the same colourings so will be an easy quick process as far as painting is concerned.

@@TheNoviceModeller Thanks Andy, sorry about my rant, I also did the cockpits at the same time - that really helps, its these darn little " pip squeaks " of pilots driving me crazy I am thinking about getting one of my stash kits out and start fresh for a bit. Over all ,it sounds odd, my big road block is I've been watching some of these videos where modelers are using tons of mixed paints, spraying multiple layers and using washes and panel liners and super detailing. I was primarily a box build kind of guy and quite satisfied with my results. But I'm feeling pressure to change and burning up kits and supplies trying to change my style I was satisfied with. Kind of lost my mojo as they say. I've really enjoyed your videos, they are steering me back to " Bob's " style of building which was fun, not trying to reproduce a Smithsonian Air Museum piece. Kind of like that old movie Fantastic Voyage but without Rachel Welch :-) Hope I didn't interfere with your enthusiasm, you're my number one model channel bringing the fun back to modeling. I appreciate the help Cheers, Bob

WOW thanks, i will be having a go at washes and all the other special effects but only once i am reasonably satisfied with my basic painting. there is a hell of a lot of faffing around with kits on some channels like you say doing perfection, for me perfection by comparison is just not going to be attainable, and if it is it will be a long way down the road, if i get there fine if not, i am really not that bothered as the reality is i just don't think i have that level of extreme patience. regarding pilots i bought some after market resin ones of ebay about 8 for 10 pounds, they aren't great but definitely usable, and more than adequate for practicing.
