In this video we run through CPU, RAM and GPU choices, working out which one perform optimally at a range of budgets and settings.
We've done all of our testing in live play, benchmarking at least 2 minutes of segments for each run to get consistent, reliable numbers. We've got tests from AMD Zen 3 CPUs, the 5600G, 5600X, 5800X and the Intel i3, i5 and i7 Alder lake CPUs. For GPUs there's both AMD and Nvidia represented from the 6500XT up to the RTX 3080Ti.
We've tested RAM from 2400Mhz to 4400MHz speeds, as well as capacity to see if that makes a difference.

Update: If you're experiencing problems with AMD GPUs in Fortnite: 1) Update to 22.6.1 Drivers via adrenaline, they note performance issues being fixed in Fortnite 2) Try running with 'multi threaded rendering' OFF - this is apparently the cause of the problem - but it may also reduce performance.

I find it off-putting with the KZread algorithm considering your channel is (as I now know) more than a year old and not once have you ever been "recommended" to me by YT. I've watched two of your videos and found them both more informative than Gamers Nexus or JayzTwoCents, significantly more than Linus and yet you've never been recommended once. I've remedied that by subscribing, of course.

can you test H610 motherboards ? low end motherboards are in high demend in india. We cant find any type of testing of i3s or i5s on those motherboards. For reference. B660 cost almost double of H610 over here, so most prefer to buy expensive cpu with cheap mobo. Many people are suggesting B660-A MSI but that motherboard costs almost as same as i5-12400. Thanks for reading.

I'd say it's not really a big enough leap forwards, unless you're experiencing very specific issues with single thread performance limitations. I'd run the 3700X for another generation or two to get the value out of it. It's still perfectly capable for Fortnite and general use/gaming.

I think you're talking about the 6600XT? It's a Sapphire Nitro+ that I've tested and reviewed really well for a bunch of other games. I don't dislike it at all overall, and it benches well, but for some reason it just wasn't doing the job in Fortnite despite a lot of tweaking and trying different drivers.

Fortnite has a multi-threaded rendering engine. FS2020 err... doesn't. They have been working to parallelise some processes, the hope is MSFS2020 will improve it's core usage with time.

@@PilotChris06FW It's using the FSX Core Sim engine. It's really that old. Asobo developed the AI world generation tech, Microsoft bought them and bolted the flight sim engine into it. It's very, very old code, and it would be a ground up rewrite to break it apart and have it better utilise more cores.

I badly need your suggestion. My laptop is almost dead and i am thinking to upgrade.. 1. Mac mini M1 8gb 256gb SSD 2. Custom built pc: i7 12th gen, 36gb ram, 500ssd, no graphics card Mac mini costs me $900 and the high-end custom built pc costs me $1400 which is exactly $500 higher than M1 Mac baseline. I am completely confused to choose between these especially with tight budget. I can just go with M1 Mac mini for now without burning my wallet but I wanted a future proof machine for the next 5 years for development. Please suggest.

Hi there, could you please offer some advice for my younger brother's pc build? I posted it on Reddit but haven't had any responses yet. Would love get your expert opinion on i. So my younger brother is planning to build a PC rig of his own for the first time and I'm helping him build it. I have an idea of what the build is going to look like and comprise of, however, I would like your expert opinions and recommendations for getting the best possible build within the budget of $1k-1.2k max. He's mostly going to use the pc for gaming, but also some light photoshop, coding, etc., which aren't very intensive. The specs I've settled on so far: CPU: i5 12400f/12400 (also looking at 12500. Not sure about 12600k) MOBO: MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK DDR4 Cooler: CM Hyper 212 (won't probably add if stock cooler is efficient) RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 MHz 16 gb (2x8) Casing: Lian Li Lancool 215 PSU: Deepcool DQ750 Wh 80+ gold fully modular GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3060 ti gaming oc pro (already have the card, so that's fixed) Let me know what you guys think of the above build and how it would handle 1080p gaming for the next 4-5 years. Also, your thoughts on the CPU choice... My brother doesn't really plan on overclocking his CPU. Would getting the 12600k with the above mobo be worth it? Will there be an impact in gaming performance compared to 12400/12500? Which one would be the better option for his use case? Also, if he were to take Z690 mobo, how is the MSI PRO A Z690 MOBO? He's open to advice and build suggestions. Thanks. Here's a pcpartpicker list: pcpartpicker.com/list/m7mTPX

Looks great to me, I'd get the i5-12500 is it's close to the 12400F in price, no need to go up to the i5-12600K or Z690 board. Just be cautious with RAM: We haven't experienced any problems at 3600Mhz on Non K CPUs, but some have - so be prepared either to swap it out for 3200MHz kit, or down clock it a little manually to get it stable. It will be a great PC.

@@BuildPicker Thanks, mate! Some more questions regarding the build. If he were to get the 12600k, it wouldn't be an issue if he were to pair with a B660 mobo, right? Like the MSI Pro A mobo or the Asus Prime B660 Plus? They're both cheaper than the Tomahawk motherboard. That is, if he gets the 12600k with no plans of overclocking yet, since the 12600 non-k isn't available here. What would your advice be on that? Also, keep up the good work. Love your in-depth videos. Would be really helpful if guys you make a video on the best PC casings to buy in different budgets. Thanks and have a good day.
