I got one for like $80 off of Amazon, one of the best additions that I've made. Came with three cables, two pulleys, a wide lat bar, a pull rope, fly handles, the plate holder pin, and a bunch of carabiners, some short lengths of chain and a few other things. It takes extra time to reconfigure it for different exercises but it's a lot cheaper than a cable machine and I put so many anchor points on the basement ceiling joists that I can move it just about anywhere around my bench so that I can use it while sitting on the bench or standing.

My old gym consisted of a towel bar for pullups a bunk for dips water bags and pillow cases full of magazines for dumbells a floor for pushups, supplements were peanut butter and tuna fish and sometimes mechanically separated chicken product, it only takes heart to get big and strong.

I'd like to make a quick plug for plate-loaded cable towers. The ONLY major capability gyms have over garage gyms is cables and these new towers are a game changer. Bells of Steel and Valor Fitness have plate-loaded single cable towers for $3-500. Their footprint is 30 inches square so they barely take up any room too. You just need to screw them to a wallstud. Worth every penny.

@deuce222x I have the Valor Fitness plate-loaded single tower. It was $500. Weight stacks aren't very cost-effective compared to plates. Cables feel a little sticky honestly. There might be better options out there I'm not aware of but I have no complaints.

For kroc rows and heavier presses, get a piece of 1.5” iron pipe. Cut a rubber pipe coupling in half to set the space for your hands; wrap the hose clamps w/ duct tape. Use another coupling as the collars. This’ll cost around $25.

All good points. I have an issue with enjoying the hunt for good used deals, so this helps me scratch that itch while getting great deals. I have to admit I really like my cable home gym. Tons of those cheap used in my area. I am a weirdo so I run standard plates. Cheap and work fine on my spinlock dumbbells. Tons of good deals on squat racks too. Don't forget that you can get buy with less. If you have a barbell and some form of weights and some room most lifts have variants that are doable. Like zercher deadlifts into zercher squats, anderson squats, floor press's, etc.

I was looking at this one. I don't like the non straight pullup bar, but it is a good deal when compared to the other brands. My only caveat is the customization. While the extra attachments can fit due to hole and upright size, adding extensions may not fit as well. I'm considering getting a rep rack and using the signature safeties and other attachments, they're less than half the price for the same function. Also from what I've seen rep turns out to be the best balance of cost and customization capabilities. Titan as well but the hole sizes are a weird 11/16" in the t3 and x3, which is slightly larger than the 5/8 that most others use, which might make attachments from other brands not stable.

I’m contrast now that I’m on vacations I went to a public gym and immediately realized the advantages of having my own home gym (starting with no wait to use benches, barbells, dumbbells), honestly I’m at the point I’ll only go to a public gym if and only if I’m not at home

I bought the cheapest set of barbell and weights set I could get. It came with an EZ bar too. It's about 90Kg in weights but for me as (re)begginerit's pretty much all i need for 1-2 years. I already had 2 20 kg adjustable dumbells and used that. The bench was cheap too and it's adjustable. Also and eliptical and a ministepper to get cardio in. Nothing fancy. Lots of elastic bands and even a suspension trainer. Did I mention a pull-up bar? I can do anything at home. All these under 1000$ together and over time. You don;t even need all these, but they added up over time.

Been training in my garage since roughly 2004. My gym is a little over the top, but my cousin closed his public powerlifting gym and sold me everything (thousands of Dallas worth of equipment) for $800 if I would agree to move it all out within couple of days. I moved it all in one afternoon. Personally, I wouldn't skimp on a good power bar, you don't need a Texas Power Bar or Rogue Ohio Power Bar, but you can find a good power bar for around $200. Also, go to Tractor Supply and buy stall mats, those puzzle piece mats tend to be much too soft and get pretty funky smelling after a while. I actually prefer the 2x3 to 3x3 racks and have had both. Narrower bars, like several of the specialty bars fit much better in the 2x3 style. Also, I don't get all the hate for Titan, I have never had a single issue with them. Perhaps I just got lucky.

Good stuff, I love my home gym. My 2 cents. Safety is everything, so get a real power rack, and good safeties. Not soem squat stand. Theres likely nobody around to help you when you get stuck, which will likely happen eventually. Also theres lots of awesome rack attachments you can add on later. Thing 2. You ae more likely to want to workout in your home gym, if the equipment is actually nice. So I differ from Bromley on this one, and vote to buy fairly decent new equipment. It doesnt need to be top end. I also have a lot of titan stuff, which is usually good value. I use my gym almost every day, so I'm glad that my stuff is actually nice. I've used crap home gym equipment before and to me it really does make a difference. Also on specialty bars. My view on them is to give more variety. At a commercial gym theres lots of machines, bars, etc. In a home gym you usually lack that. so some specialty bars and stuff help give more options. Which isnt truly needed. But can be used to give your home gym a more premium feel, and can give more options to rotate lifts.

Love your content and the information you put out. You are absolutely right that finding equipment that may not be top of the line is not going to get you any stronger. I'm really a value for money type of person. Even if I can make the higher end equipment work I'm still looking at the money I'm putting out. Is whatever I buy going to pay me back, and paying it back is very much a personal choice. Building a home gym the right way, with safety in mind for all compound lifts, doesn't balance with using a gym membership. Gym memberships at planet fitness will always make more since for the money, having a home gym is a luxury that I appreciate because it's my music, my time, no sharing all the time. That being said, home gym is access, friction reduction to better health, maybe I will make up the cost in medical bills as I get older. Hard to say. You brought up adjustable dumbbells, right now I'm between Snode AD80's (the luxury spend) and power blocks (the value deal) , Power blocks are proven and go up to 90 pounds (95 pounds with magnets). Snode AD80's look like they beat nuobell because snode uses a metal guide for their slide and nuobell uses a plastic guide that will break, so noubells are out until they fix that. It's a good problem to have. Thanks for all the information - you are a help to my life - keep up the great work.

Very nice mate! It's gotta be done, a decent amount of reasonably cheap equipment for times you can't get to the gym or even so you could have days at your home gym instead of the gym (or crap like Lockdowns) Or if you just want to train hassle free at home? Thats what i do having got annoyed at all the waiting, gross sweat covered equipment, weights and dumbells that are never put back. I've got a decent selection of weights, dumbbells, barbells, dip bars, bench, squat rack/bench rack with safeties (ive not got the room currently for a power cage) so i can train Squats and Bench Press without killing myself haha! I even got a doorway chin up bar, excercise bands to do assisted chins/pull ups, an excercise ball for ab work and I can even do lower back hyperextensions which are normally only possible with a big bench that holds your legs. I'm nearly 49 so got back into serious training 3 years ago for mood improvement, fitness and just to look and feel better and more able to deal with running round after my kids. Best thing I ever did! I started a year before those bloody Lockdowns so none of that affected me one bit, I just carried on hassle free. I bodybuild and have put ALL the muscle I had in my 30s back on and more besides! Plus due to my lack of machines I think I've built a better body this time round by sticking mainly with barbell/dumbbell compounds. Even the band assisted (due to elbow pain but also great for ensuring perfect form and enough reps) chins/pull ups I do instead of pull-downs have worked wonders, with my back appearing wider and thicker. All in all I've put roughly 50lb of muscle on in 3 or so years, not bad for someone that's nigh on 50 years old haha!

I do still want a Power Rack with a pulley system just to finish things off (there are SO many excercises that you can do with pulleys!) The problem is the prices are so much more expensive here in the UK but I will do it eventually. I am really hoping that I can eventually get my son and maybe even daughters into weight training so I'm thinking that at least it will all get lots of use and not be a waste of money.

I wont lie. I have an SSB as my first specialty bar too.... and I love it so damn much. I think it's a fair bar to have as a first specialty one but it's definitely not as versatile as a multi purpose bar

I lucked out right at the start of covid before everything sold out or got inflated and got a brand new Weider bar and plate set for 190 at a Play It Again Sports. Never saw those prices again. A chain from Lowe's and a pair of cable d-handles in a tree for pullups and dips, squat stands from Amazon, some cinderblocks to use as a bench, an olympic dumbbell, and resistance bands, and my backyard was pretty much a whole gym at that point. The total probably ended up around 500 for the stuff i used daily.

inspire body lift bl1 is most times like training on a pro gym machine, you can get it up to 200 kg/440lbs resistance and cost just a little over $1000 USD now. if youre light weight, you can add extra weights to the seat or footrest to max it out. dont think ive seen it ever tested either but reviews on it on amazon ranks it high, i also have it and im glad i got it. Its much safer than freeweights, freeweights at home is dangerous and an accident waiting to happen in my view other than a few sets of adjustable dumbbells and a bench which go well with body lift bl1. then add a rowing machine or cycle, a situp bench and youre done.

Bent bars is why I switched from commercial gyms to home gym. I knew I could get better bars for myself. Most gyms are not built for strength athletes.

for people who like to craft, buff dudes has a few videos on how to build a bench, how to build a rack. I ended up building the power rack and its been fine but the cost of wood made me wonder if I was really saving much money lol

If you can't find/afford the nuobells, you can make your own adjustable dumbbells out of 1" all thread, 5" long 1" black iron pipe, some standard plates, and a few 1" nuts. You slide the black iron pipe on the 1" all thread and use that as the handle, then sandwich the pipe with your standard plates, then secure it all with the 1" nuts on either side. You can gut the all thread with a cheap hacksaw to whatever length you want. I've loaded one dumbbell up to 200lbs before with no problems. You can also buy the standard plates as you need them.

Great video. I am always confused why everybody says craiglist. In my area there is barley anything posted on craigslist from private owners. I find Facebook Market Place for my location has a much better inventory from private owners.

Will the Titan t-2 and t-3 not tip over/sway if you’re doing dips and/or have heavy weight in the front of the rack even if you don’t have spare plates on the sides (like you did in the video) ?

I found an airdyne just like yours for $35 on Facebook. It was gross and rusty, so I took it apart and cleaned and repainted it. I probably have like $70 total into it and I have a super intense cardio machine at my house now 👍🏻

Awesome video. I couldn't agree more with your minimal approach. Ive seen plenty of elite athletes who train with the bare minimum equipment (like you showed) that are A LOT stronger and workout much harder than your home gym warrior who has a full shop filled with all the new age crap and put in weak workout.

I know it all about presences and goals but I think for many people instead of getting a cardio machine - swimming, running or cycling outdoors is a much better option and give you a lot of space for other equipment.

if there's one thing that I can call a blessing in disguise from the lockdowns, it's that there's more love for building a home gym than ever before! for cardio machine though, I say calorie rower is another good option.
