    my 100 would be 20 dollar gymnastics ring 80 dollar spent towards homedepot making sand bags verying in weight. i make a 200 pound bag use it for front loaded carries and lifts I would buy prebagged sanded tape the outside with duck tape for lighter objects. I then would use my education to do calisthenics and general fitness to be fit and with duct tape you can make anything. i mean anything. I watched myth busters get a car to run so i would be able to do curls and over head extensions. single arm rows.

    Another approach is to start by learning and doing a variety of no-equipment bodyweight exercises. As you gradually figure out what kinds of strength and fitness are hard for you to achieve without equipment, you can add items like the ones Coop mentioned. In my case, I went bodyweight-only for a while about ten years ago. It worked pretty well and was fun-especially animal flow-but I felt I wasn’t doing enough pulling moves. I then added a suspension trainer, which resolved that issue. (Rings will also work.) Nowadays I use more equipment, but I’m glad I went through that bodyweight-only stage. I learned a lot about how I can exercise better.

    I wish I knew where to buy some more of that . . . constantly falling off and getting back on sucks, but I know that I have to keep trying. I have a deep love of running and the worst is when I end up with a few weeks off for some reason, building back up to 10+ mile runs is NOT fun

    I have watched a lot of your videos, but you nailed this one Coop. I am so glad to see you recommending gym rings. Wooden gym rings (yes they can do legs - single leg pistols, cossacks, etc), (eva foam) running shoes, jump rope, (fitness reality) power rack, olympic barbell, cast iron plates, (amazon) bench. That's my preference, and in that order, it's not too hard on the wallet. Buy the expensive stuff 2nd hand or during black friday, concentrate on the rings, jump rope and running in the interim.

    The gymnastic rings was an excellent recommendation. On a budget my first thought was a weighted vest for calisthenics exercises and a jump rope. The rings were a pleasant surprise; makes perfect sense. Great work Coop.

    Loved this cheaper home gym build! My thoughts were the Titan gymnastic rings, a pair of Canway resistance bands set that Gluck from Gluck's Gym swears by for about $30 and either an Amazon basics flat bench for $50 or there is a wall pull up bar from Titan for $34 which would be a great place to attach the bands and rings.

    Great choices, I might have gone with a DIY adjustable sandbag but that's a personal preference. I hope you continue the series. My personal home gym has grown and shrank many times over the years but two pieces that seem to be a constant are my Powerbock dumbbells and a bench, currently the ironmaster super bench and my fan bike. I would like to see you do a video as part of this series on home gyms that are in a small space or a shared space where equipment can be put to the side when not in use. I'm sure I'm not the only person whose weight training area used for other things, like hitting a heavy bag or kids play area.

    Great video as always. for conditioning I needed to save up for a cycling machine, the environment I live in has temperatures that goes up to 50C(122F) so going outside is pretty much death. keep up the good work brother, proud to see someone so enthusiastic when it comes to things they love.

    You are basically describing my current gym except I have a few more items. Mainly because I can’t ask for more space in our current 1.5 car garage that I have to share with my husband’s work-in-progress old Porsche. I have a land mine with a couple of weights Instead of the sled. All in maybe $200. Currently measuring the space to see if I can put a prx foldable rack

    When I was in my early 20s I was given a workout book for Christmas. It had work outs you could do at home and nutrition tips, talked about rep ranges, sets, everything you need to know as a beginner. With that book and body weight exercises I build a good foundation. That book was only $20-$30 so I would through in resistance bands too.

    Hmm…I’d go a different route. I’d make DIY dumbbells with laundry detergent bottles with rocks or metal inside, resistance bands off Amazon, a bench to do rows/presses, jump rope, maybe a duffle bag with walmart waterproof rollable bags filled with sand as an adjustable sandbag..a lot of weightlifting is just getting weight. People can use car rotors as weights for barbells, rocks/sand in a bag for heavy pulls. Even a diy pulley to do lat pulldowns or tricep pulldowns could work! Although resistance bands are probably the most versatile of them all. So many body parts are able to be hit, and they’re cheap online!

    I started with a $100 home gym. It was 1x 15 lbs dumbbell 1x 25 lbs dumbbell 1x 40 lbs dumbbell Resistance cables: 150 lbs with handle attachment, ankle attachment, door anchor ($20) I started just before the pandemic, today you would have to get used dumbbells for the $1/lbs price

    I got a cheap bar and cast some concrete plates to go with it, i was lucky enough to find a set of adjustable dumbbells in a skip and i've got gymnastics rings for body weight. I was happy with my basic set up, and the concrete plates are still going strong even after 5 years

    exactly, which is why my build would definitely be rings + wall/ceiling mounted pull up bar first. That already takes care of your entire upper body. As a beginner you can do legs pretty well with bodyweight alone, so the build could literally stop right there, but you could also get a heavy kettlebell for squats and deadlifts. Alternatively use the rest of the budget for accessories such as a training mat, bands etc. Also, sleds are useless. What was he thinking? Did he forget the $100 budget or does he just assume people already have weight plates just lying around their homes? And who has a $100 budget but enough space to put something as big and unwieldy, not to mention use it. And all of that for an extremely suboptimal leg workout, any full ROM loaded squat will be much better for building muscle. He already had the jump rope for conditioning.

    I guess it depends on what sort of gym you are looking to build. Mine would be focused on strength, and focus on Used products on OfferUp , I just did a 5 minute search and found the following in my area: $30 old, slightly bent, olympic barbell $20 pair of rusted out iron 45 lb plates $50 pair of old 25 lb plates This allows someone to get started - at least at a lower weight - with: Deadlift (hinge/legs) , Barbell rows (pull), RDLs (hinge), Clean and jerk (pull and push), front squat (legs), floor press (push), bicep curls (pull) No equipment needed: Pushups (push); Pull ups at a playground (okay this is not at home but is reasonable for many), gradually work doing on sissy squat (legs) or single leg bodyweight squats So with just $100 , one could potentially do a serious novice strength program: --- Monday - assisted Sissy squat / single leg body squat (hard), RDL light, Clean and jerk heavy, floor press light, pushups, barbell rows heavy, pull ups RPE 8 barbell curls heavy. Conditioning: Sprints Wednesday - Deadlift heavy, clean and jerk light, Floor press heavy, pull ups hard (RPE 10), Barbell rows light. Conditioning: slow jog 10-20 minutes, increasing. Friday - assisted Sissy squat / single leg body squat (hard), RDL light, Clean and jerk heavy, floor press light, pushups, barbell rows heavy, Pullups RPE 8, barbell curls heavy. Conditioning: Sprints.

    I'm in the situation of 100$ gym build, I don't have anywhere to put rings so I just spend 20 dollars on a doorway pull up bar, 20 dollars on a pair of screw on dumbbell handles, and then 60 dollars on plates to put on said dumbbells which cost a dollar for each pound. Just do calisthenics exercises and use the dumbbells for curls, you can go up to 60 by putting all the weight on one dumbbell handle. The weights are extremely useful for advanced progression or in between steps where calisthenics has big jumps in difficulty.

    I've got gymnastics rings sitting in a box in the corner of my gym. I tried using them a little from time to time the first few years I've had them. Since they've sat in a box undisturbed for 5 years now, this was a great reminder for me to put those things on FB marketplace and clear out some of my clutter.

    Similar. They definitely have their place but if you're a certain size/weight/proportion, they're not a particularly easy piece of kit to use without already having a lot of grip and upper body strength. Likewise, if you have any injuries they're not a great way to work around those (too many body parts involved). A simple door frame chinup bar with some chocks to rest it on at the top and midway up the door gets you some easier pullup/row variations.

    My favorite part was Coop talking about gymnastic rings and how muscular gymnasts are but then a picture of female gymnasts were used when they don't have gymnastics rings as an event and likely don't train regularly if at all with them as a result... It's a men's event

    Love the low budget options. I just invested in the new Freak Athlete Wheelbarrow Sled and would love to see a review of the that! It was a much more budget friendly alternative to the magnetic sleds; and has an impressive set of features. Incidentally the Reverse Hyper is coming tomorrow as well. FA has been killing the budget equipment game lately. I’m probably going to use the sled mostly on a strip of lawn on my .5 acre yard that the dog hasn’t shredded too much yet. I do have a nice driveway but I am weary of the noise even with the plastic strips on the bottom. Keep up the great work and definitely keep working with the Arnold the legend!

    Great recommendations. I would add a diy plyo box on there to. Most of the time you can find people giving away scrap wood you could use to build one. Also yes would love to see an Arnold home gym walkthrough

    Just buy a pull-up/dip station, which you can buy used for less than $100. On it, you can do pull-ups, chin-ups, knee raises, leg raises, calf raises, sissy squats, inverted bodyweight rows, and dips. You don't need any equipment whatsoever to do bodyweight squats, pushups, burpees, crunches, and sit-ups. You can get very strong and muscular doing these exercises. Prison inmates do, and in many prisons, prison inmates don't have access to free weights.

    @@shiwakuseven5859what he is saying is that when you are doing inverted rows, you can adjust the angle you are performing them at and that’s why it is more scaleable. For push-ups you can do the same thing. Do pushing where you are only going down to a 45 degree angle, then 35 degrees, all the way down to 0, where you are finally doing a full body weight push-up. Your stabilizers get worked as well. The instability is where people begin to learn how to control their body throughout movement. One leg squats can be a little difficult, but a person can always do lunges and use the rings to help pull themselves up. The rings will also move with their body so when they finally need assistance it’s right there in their hands.

    @@meisdetermined I have 2 sets of rings. I rarely use them because they make the exercises I like to do much more difficult. To work your upper body, all you really need to do is chin-ups and dips. These two exercises are best done on a pull-up/dip station. I have several types of exercise equipment on which I do pull-ups and chin-ups on. The one that I recommend is the Stamina PT 1690 Power Tower, which is inexpensive and which you can buy used for less than $100. I have one on my outside patio, which I have been using for three years now. I have another in my basement gym. The one I use outside I put rubber shrink tubes over the foam grips that come with Stamina PT 1690 to protect them from the elements. I had to paint it twice (on two separate occasions) with black spray paint because of the snow and rain. The elements made the stickers peel off, but I just removed them when they started to peel off because doing so doesn't keep the power tower from being functional. So far, my outdoor Stamina PT 1690 Power Tower has held up for three years now. Using it, I went from being able to do 3 consecutive pull-ups to being able to do 40 consecutive pull-ups. The only other piece of exercise equipment that I recommend, is to buy a heavy slam ball, which you can hold between your knees when you do pull-ups, chin-ups, and dips. When you get tired, just release it, which will enable you to grind out more reps. It is much better than using a weight vest, which you can't take off unless you stop doing pull-ups, chin-ups, or dips. I recommend starting with a 20 pound slam-ball, but I have Titan Fitness slam balls from 10 to 100 pounds and a single Titan Fitness 150 pound slam ball, but I have yet to do pull-ups, chin-ups, or dips with any slam ball heavier than 50 pounds. The best way to do inverted bodyweight rows on a Stamina PT 1690 Power Tower is to put a bar,.metal tube, or even a tool handle in the space above the connectors that join the tubular steel together, even though you can also use the dip handles. I prefer using an old hoe wood handle. The metal part of the hoe broke off long ago from gardening, but the wood handle works great for doing inverted bodyweight rows on my Stamina PT 1690 Power Tower, which is meant to be used indoors, but when can also be used outside if you don't mind having the elements peel off the stickers that come with it and having to spray paint it once every year or so.

It doesn’t change my belief in strengthening the stabilizers but being able to do an actual “drop set” with the pull-ups is genius. A person can always just buy a pipe like what Jocko did as well. So many ways to skin a cat.

    I'll add a top from experience with the rings, there's a lot I can bang on about but to keep this is the $100 ball park then consider buying a paint pen (I used white on black straps). When using gymnastic rings for fitness, you'll want to measure your progress. It's a body weight workout so you'll know your weight, you'll record your reps and sets but how about intensity? For consistency I used to have the length of my straps in inches so I could have them at a set height every time... push ups on rings are a greater intensity than without them (same goes for dips). If you're wanting higher volume you'll want to adjust the angle of your body or do partial reps or negatives (if you don't have a great deal of strength)

    Solid recommendations. The only thing is these devices all need space. You need something mounted on the wall/ceiling to attach the rings to (or, y'know, a squat rack). The rope - you can do it outside, but again, not great if you live in an apartment or otherwise can't make a lot of noise. Same with the sled and slam ball.

    Off the top of my head my list would be: Rings 20lb dumbells Shoe strap (lets you strap dumbbell to foot) DIY pull up bar Yoga mat The dumbells can be used as parallettes too. My thinking is that lighter dumbells can be simulated with objects you might already own or scrap pipe or something. You don’t need a 5 lb dumbbell. There is something small enough in your house that weighs 5 lbs. probably. People who haven’t used rings don’t understand how powerful they are. By the time you get yourself to 20lb weighted pull up’s and ring dips. And turned out support holds and false grip and muscle ups you’ll be prett y dang fit. Add the yoga mat in because many people aren’t mobile enough since all we do is sit all day. Get the pistol squat and be able to touch your toes with straight legs etc. then get lean and you’re fitter than 99% of the population for $100. I have a bunch of rogue stuff but at the end of the day my current setup is two rogue racks. And one has rings on it and the other has a climbing rope. I have 55lb adjustable dumbbells, a power bar and 500lbs of plates. But the way I currently train is how I described above. I haven’t touched the barbell for a while now as I’m basically training for like a gymnast now (without the acrobatics).

    Before I got my squat rack and barbell, I had 2 sets of dumbbells, one resistant band, a step, and a pull up bar. It doesn’t take a lot, we just like a lot. Gym rings are great,got mine for $15 on offerup, I attached my mine to my squat rack.

    I made a homemade isobow - Cost of materials- (1) two small lengths of plastic plumbing pipe -£ 50 pence (2) piece of web strapping - £ 20 pence . (3) cobbler to sew the strapping - £ 50 pence . Entire lot £1.20 . I use it daily .

    For me, I would find a cheap 45lb play with handles, some rope, and maybe a DIY cable set up. Or TRX ropes as well.

    I would go with a pull-up bar that I can bolt on the floor, a TRX kit and jump rope. Can work every single muscle with that with added conditioning from the jump rope.

    One item I might add but might blow the budget is an ab wheel maybe an ab wheel that can strap to your feet like the lifeline power wheel so you can work hamstrings / lower back. Maybe you can do additions to $100 gym step one, two, three.

    When I was a diesel mechanic i would hit up the metal dumpster for brake drums and flywheels. Literally got over 800lbs of round balanced cast iron to make all kinds of creative lifty stuff.

    If you want to train compound lifts on a mega budget, an old USGI canvas duffel bag, black trash bags, gaffers tape, and rubber mulch/rubber pellets (whatever’s cheapest per lb). I get more utility and variety in a single workout, in less time, out of my diy 80lb sandbag than my Rogue barbell and bumper plates. Easily

    I'd consider a heavy enough kettlebell. There are so many good exercises that work the whole body and also is good for cardio

    I would buy a used bullworker. Or maybe a kettlebell. Maybe some gymnastic rings and an ab sling. Then I would do calisthenics in the park. For that matter 1 set of adjustable dumbbells that are 25-30 lbs is enough to build good muscle doing rows and lunges etc. If you have no money you can still lift rocks or logs. Or you could try and build your own dumbbells using cement.

    I would do gymnastic rings. Parallette bars. Jump rope. And squat wedges. Maybe a kettle bell if there is money left over

    Even the rings can be DIY'd pretty easily, especially if you go for a more TRX-style flat handle rather than an actual ring. Just a couple of sections of PVC and some rope, really.

    Ok, I bought this second hand: Adjustable bench: €20, 2 x 15kg dumbbells: €20, Home barbell 30mm with 50 kg weights for: €15, Slam ball 10kg: €5, Suspension trainer with anchor: €€2.5, 3 iron Kettlebells 12kg, 16kg and 20kg: €35 Total: €97.5 Use your money wisely and don't necessarily buy new things.

    Even in my 3rd world country $100 ain't getting you anywhere. You need at least $400 to have a decent home gym - cheapo rack, cheapo barbells, and 200lbs of plates. My home gym cost around $800 and it's ugly.😂 But definitely better than nothing. I love it so much. It improved my life in so many ways.
