Most excellent video. This will be my next science day project for when my Grandson comes over. I'm going to tell him he is going to build his own gaming console. I'll do the RetroPi and update to eliminate the black border. I'm going to have him do the assembly and the mandatory stickers. Keep broadcasting!!

@@kiwi9402 It's been awhile but I never got around to doing this with the Raspberry Pi. Instead, I learned how to solder and started modding Gameboy Advance's instead :P. If I want to emulate something, I usually just do it on my phone. I do think the project could still be viable, but I'm sure there are newer/better ways to do this.
As if I don't already have enough RPi3 projects on my to-do list... Thanks for this, ETA Prime!

Youre very inspiring. Youve opened the world of Raspberry Pi to me. Thanks to you, Im going to get father into this as well and hopefully we can do some projects together. We used to play NES together back in the 80's and this will get that nostalgic feeling going.
Everytime I have some weird idea I find out a video on your channel that explains to me how to do... More useful channel ever! Thanks
Have a few raspberry pi’s laying around. So just ordered everything I need to build this baby. Can’t wait.
I’ve been using mine as a console and I’m ready to take it on the go!
Totally going to do this over the weekend! It's perfect for dummies such as myself. I can barely boil spaghetti without screwing it up.
This has to be the greatest gaming DIY of all time
Missed out this video of yours, damn.. this is really awesome !
Super helpful! I have everything already around the house, but the screen. Getting my first Pi in a few days so I will look into something like this. Thanks!
I was just watching your videos on this last night lol. Im getting my first raspberry pi tomorrow lol. Im very excitef

Nice! Just played Blazing Star on my Pi that's hooked up to my tv. :D
This was fun to build.
Awesome m8!!! I was just thinking you could put your Switch on the FC30 with that clip mount thingy though the screens you've got are heaps better sized for it. Might have to purchase one of those screens just for the hell of it! Nice vid!! :)
I will probably stick to Retroflag Gpi when it comes out but it’s certainly a good video to show what you can do if you enterprising enough and are not bothered to try.

Really cool project!!! What do u think, will make the portable version much smaller in height??? Would be RP Zero a good choice??? And to control it via the controller to make it easier.
Very tempted to do his, is there a solution to do the exact same thing with the 5 inch screen or is it only possible with having to solder?
this is awsome :)
Does the screen come with the HDMI "U" adapter? You didn't specify. Excellent video.

Word of caution though, there were a batch of the sn30 pros & sf30 pros that would suddenly freeze after a minute of use. Just request a replacement immediately if you experience freezing, don't try flashing the firmware it may get bricked.

I saw where you won the referral contest for the GameShell. I hope they give you an early one for review.

Loved the video but I just have one question for you. Do the games come pre installed to the retro pi or do I have to install them?
cool video. i know its an old one and may not get a reply but have you thought of doing one of these with the Pisugar2 Pro Portable . I believe i saw on your channel you used something like it for the pie 4
I'm curious about the way you record your videos. Is the audio recorded at the time, or are you redubbing over it later? For that matter, do you even talk while you're filming, or do you just silently gesture and point at things, knowing your script ahead of time?
@SheepyIsSleepy
6 жыл бұрын
now that you say that im curious as well
@BrainSlugs83
6 жыл бұрын
My assumption was always that it was the latter (redubbing) -- but I don't actually know. -- It just seems like the most obvious choice. -- I bet he mumbles through the script or something similar while recording to help with timing, but then redubbs it after. -- Again though, I don't actually know.
@pass6749

I think he talks while doing it so he knows the timing and then mute it and redub while editing
So here we are, it’s nearly 2022, any thoughts on using a raspberry pi4 with this screen? I am seeing on the Amazon page for the waveshare screen, a number of reviews that are claiming difficulty with the newer versions of the pi.
I see a gamesir g3, I've had one sitting around for awhile and haven't tested it yet!
Got this setup exact screen kit, battery, and controller 👍 my question though is does it matter where I put the file in config.txt. Does it go on a certain line or can I add it at the bottom of everything?
Super love you, can you say how much tall is the raspberry + the screen attached?
I have the 8Bitdo sf30 pro too ;)
I think they make loud speakers that are powered by the 3.5mm out. I remember searching for one years back for an iPod touch snes emulator or something.

Cool video, Do you know what the native resolution of the display is? it says it does 320x240 up to 1920x1080. Just curious if it's actually 1080 or if it's just scaling 1080 to whatever the native res is. 1080 at 3.5" would be a high pixel density and would be awesome if that is what it truly is.
best bet for speakers is to take headphones, take em apart, and 3d print places to put them and if u shape the area right it will will amplify the sound
use the speaker and circuitry from a wii controller great for tight spaces
I'd like to see this modded to use the PiJuice Hat... That would be sweet.
Was the other video ever released? I'd like to see the cell battery method.
Great video! Any thoughts on moving the battery down to the controller to balance out the weight? I find my hands getting tired the more mass I clip onto the end of the 8bitdo, which is the controller's only flaw imo.

Hey man, any chance you can do a video on Dolphin running on the shield k1 tablet?
I was looking in the description, and I was wondering if we should by the eBay screen with the Amazon or should we buy only one of the items? I simply must know to do this before I buy everything
would be interested in the lighter battery version, is it possible to show how to use a display not through hdmi but through some serial connector? so that it makes connecting to a tv easier without removing hdmi dual connector
Hi ETA Prime. Thanks for the video on this. I'm about to build this. My 3.5" screen did not come with a backplate, though. Maybe I can find one on Amazon... As for the speakers, I am going to try the INTSUN mini portable speaker 3W from Amazon and see if there's room for it to fit, and how it sounds. Take care!

How did the speaker turn out?
@jerrysmith8694
2 жыл бұрын
@@artemisfowl577 The speaker worked out good for what I was needing. No wires to get in the way, and I could easily point the speaker toward me since it plugged directly into the audio jack. It has a rechargable battery, seems like the battery life was good too. I can recommend it if the speaker is still for sale. I found it on Amazon.
Since the Pi 3 has Bluetooth built in could you use a Bluetooth Speaker for the external sound?

i definitely want to do this, if i plug in the micro sd cable from my wireless controler to the pie will it work without having to use the bluetooth fucncion?
Cant find any battery banks that have high enough amps. All give me the lightning?
How usable would raspbian be on that screen? A dual boot with one of those keyboard/controllers would be kinda cool.
Hi could you recommend on cheaper screens that would work? Can I use a 5' display?
Im gonna use the ipega knight and 5inch screen for good looks on it Ill call mine the game box
How bright is the backlight on the display? Would you say that it’s bright enough to play outdoors?
Hello so were can I find a hdmi u adapter
You do know that if you wanted to play street fighter with some one else you could buy USB controllers from Amazon and take the one that's on it off so you can play street fighter.
I love u. U r the best. Now I gonna try to make it. Can u tell me the estimated cost?
GBA replacement speaker is small and retro :)
I have the 8Bitdo SFC30 & Xtander Clip. I need the NES30 Pro Controller, the battery, & the Raspberry Pi 3.
I would just recommend a $30-50 prepaid android phone. It will out-perform this and be way less bulky. I have been doing this with an LG Tribute 5 for years. Actually super nice because the resolution of the screen is only 480p which means integer scaling on NES/SNES (2x) -and- more importantly GBA (3x).
For the sound could you use wireless headphones through bluetooth?
If I’m using the larger display, do I have to use the extendable spider controller or will the clip on the G3S expand large enough to hold it?
tactile transducer would work
Hi! The screening is plug & play or Need install driver's for raspberry pi?
How many GPIO pins are still available after using this display? (does it only use the GPIO header for power?) And as a sidenote; instead of buying an 18650 cell, holder, charging circuit, etc... for my build i picked up a 3 cell battery for $15, and removed it from the case, distributing the cells inside of my Lynx... It works great and lasts for hours!

I've found that using a cheap android tablet and a Bluetooth controller to be a high quality and cheap portable gaming solution.... Compact and powerful and less expensive.
This is cool and DIY and all, but if you have an Android phone, you already have what you need. It's my go-to emulation solution right now. Besides the pi.
