Most excellent video. This will be my next science day project for when my Grandson comes over. I'm going to tell him he is going to build his own gaming console. I'll do the RetroPi and update to eliminate the black border. I'm going to have him do the assembly and the mandatory stickers. Keep broadcasting!!

@@kiwi9402 It's been awhile but I never got around to doing this with the Raspberry Pi. Instead, I learned how to solder and started modding Gameboy Advance's instead :P. If I want to emulate something, I usually just do it on my phone. I do think the project could still be viable, but I'm sure there are newer/better ways to do this.

I'm curious about the way you record your videos. Is the audio recorded at the time, or are you redubbing over it later? For that matter, do you even talk while you're filming, or do you just silently gesture and point at things, knowing your script ahead of time?

My assumption was always that it was the latter (redubbing) -- but I don't actually know. -- It just seems like the most obvious choice. -- I bet he mumbles through the script or something similar while recording to help with timing, but then redubbs it after. -- Again though, I don't actually know.

Cool video, Do you know what the native resolution of the display is? it says it does 320x240 up to 1920x1080. Just curious if it's actually 1080 or if it's just scaling 1080 to whatever the native res is. 1080 at 3.5" would be a high pixel density and would be awesome if that is what it truly is.

Actually super nice because the resolution of the screen is only 480p which means integer scaling on NES/SNES (2x) -and- more importantly GBA (3x).

How many GPIO pins are still available after using this display? (does it only use the GPIO header for power?) And as a sidenote; instead of buying an 18650 cell, holder, charging circuit, etc... for my build i picked up a 3 cell battery for $15, and removed it from the case, distributing the cells inside of my Lynx... It works great and lasts for hours!

I've found that using a cheap android tablet and a Bluetooth controller to be a high quality and cheap portable gaming solution.... Compact and powerful and less expensive.

This is cool and DIY and all, but if you have an Android phone, you already have what you need. It's my go-to emulation solution right now. Besides the pi.
