Hi Curtis, I turn on the misters to first soak the plants & release the ladybugs after sunset. If the weather stays cool & cloudy for a week or so I've then had mating & egg laying followed by lots of ladybug larva appearing & they're real chow hounds eating lots of aphids repeating the cycle. When the weather turns sunny & hot the adults fly off so I'm going to try the netting which will also limit bugs like thrips & aphids gaining entrance in the first place. Thanks for the netting source! Bill
Great vid. We have that lack of dormancy issue here. Winters have been very light in the UK, so the aphid populations get going early on. I MUST get around to buy some ladybirds to tackle my issue. Can net the window and also have some drop fabric across the door. Thanks for the idea!
Tomato flowers are wind pollinated, you can get the job done by simply shaking the strings of the tomato plants (when you are pruning for example).
amazing work
Really enjoyed this video
Nature always finds a way.
Really cool. Great innovating.
Much like your greenhouse im having issues with pests since I live in north Florida and none of the pest especially soil born insects ever die off. I need to build a year around ladybug nest. key to Florida is crop rotation and cover crops. its only way to deal with bugs effectively. if I grow tomatoes in same place as year before they do horrible so.....just thought id share
Tomatoes are wind pollinated, just a little airflow is all that's needed.
Thank you! That was helpful
Great idea! Good video!
Ladybugs are omnivorous so they would likely benefit from having a few types of flowers around for pollen and nectar. Buying new bugs is cheap but putting a few hanging baskets of flowers in the greenhouse would be even cheaper!
Anyone know if this would hold in too much heat during mid-summer or is there enough ventilation through the side nets.
Where do you get bug getting? I'm in Hawaii and don't recall ever seeing it here.
Hi Curtis, a bit off topic but do you know anyone biointensively growing blackberries or raspberries, like you grow tomatoes? i would love to learn more about it if you know anyone. thanks man.
Where can you get that insect netting the link is gone that you have posted from 2016
Do you remember having problem venting your greenhouse with the addition of the protecknet on the sides? Do you think it would be a problem in a small hoophouse with no electric ventilation? Thank you for your help!
Yea thats the problem I have in here in tropical warm weather
Have you tried heat treatment?
Use banker plants to ensure the ladies don't run out of food supply!

Ce Holmes I ordered 1500 on amazon for $10 yesterday and they already shipped. Can't speak about the quality yet as I haven't seen them but the reviews were good. I have the same issue with aphids in my greenhouse, they are damaging everything that sprouts.
Quoting Jurassic Park; awesome!
Do you greenhouse can keep locusts away? In africa people have problem with locusts eating their crops. But it doesnt seem anyone know the benefits of greenhouse.
Available size of net and price
Excuse me, sir...... the website for the netting is no longer available. What words should we put in the search to look for this same netting? Thanks.
If people have issues with pollinating toms or any other fruit setting plant, just use a small soft brush like a make up brush and do it yourself, just takes a second and guarantees pollination.

Or just flick the flower trusses with your finger. High pollination.
What are your thoughts on hydroponics and aquaponics agriculture?

Curtis, do you inflate your rollup sidewall when you have it rolled down? I am building mine now, but not sure which is the best option. Also, do you ever drop your roll bar below the chanellock on the ground and wiggle wire it down?
@offgridcurtisstone

No. But in the winter they get secured with channel lock then they get the blower.
would you consider using another nematode called encarsia formosa its a very small version of a yellow jacket (wasp) they are unfertile so can't reproduce and die after a certain length of time. they are used extensively here in Europe in polyhouses and glasshouses for the control of aphids.

I consider everything! So far, lady bugs are working great.

wheelock - if they are infertile they are probably lab engineered. That's another subject.

karen l Smith I was wrong they are not infertile. when the temperature drops to below 18°C the eggs can't develop. The wasp then slowly dies out over the winter/cold period. they have been used to great effect since the 1920's but people later decided to use pesticides instead. not genetically modified in any way.

Hey man they're not a nematode. They're a parasitoid. Hope life been well buddy.
Surely once your ladybugs have finished eating the aphids they will resort to eat your plants to keep themselves alive?
is there any good brand of insect netting that is also shade cloth?

Do you ever spray any organic pesticides such as Neem oil for pests?
@pseudobeanmachine9770

Tried that on my weed plants but was too late I think although it didnt seem to put them off... Anyway I don't think you'd want neem oil on your lettuces that stuff smells and tastes nasty

I was surprised at how sick aphids can make plants though, I think its the viral diseases they introduce, really not good.

Not really. We tried Safer soap a couple months ago. Didn't really do much.

Me too! Though I think they could snuck in through the entrance? It’s their survival meals anyway, they would sacrifice themselves :))))? I think it’s like asking “Why do my house have cockroaches?! It was supposed to keep it OUT!!! While they crawl UNDER the door...”
Geez man too long I have a plastic green house
