Pests Have Moved Into The Greenhouse 😩 What To Do About Garden Bugs and Rodents
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Winter gardening is supposed to be easier than the summer garden, but what if you have snails, slugs, earwigs or even RATS in your greenhouse? I polled the community and we came up with tons of ways to prevent and repel pests in your garden...and what to do if they've already moved in. What garden pests have you dealt with?

keep learning and don't give up! one day you will know more than the people who are currently advising you
I harvest and dry lavender from my lavender bushes then put bunches of them in my storage tent. Granted there is no food in there, but no more pests x5 years in my storage tent…no bugs, no rodents
I appreciate your consideration of our fellow mammals. Many years ago, I caught Georgia Tree rats in my attic with havahart traps then released them in a forest far away from any homes. I hope they survived the transplant. As a child I had pet mice, gerbils, hamsters. It’s really difficult for me to consider killing them, though I know in some situations it’s a necessity
Irish Spring soap repels pretty well. I used to shower with it, but it's too much for me and so I've avoided it for decades. 🐀🐀🐁

Deer hate the smell of Irish Spring soap. That soap is awfully hard on the skin. You are better off getting an antibacterial soap that uses Rosemary or lavender oil in it instead.
Do you think one strategy that would work would be to build a small concrete wall as a foundation of sorts and secure the tarp to the foundation? I’m not sure how much this would increase costs

I think they may just dig under it unless the concrete extended a foot down into the soil
For the insects I tend to sprinkle diatomaceous earth all around the plants, it's organic and good for the soil

I need to give this a try. The cayenne seems to be working though!
As a vegan I appreciate you not resorting to the chemical killers and considering the animals.

We are all a part of the ecosystem 🌱💚
unless your cats are ratters, rats will not be deterred by the presence of cats unfortunately. i grew up in the welsh countryside and we had five cats, none ratters, we still had rat issues lol.

and thanks for sharing this. ive been gearing up to start my greenhouse and ive a river behind the property that brings the rats every winter. So now i know i have to consider this before i start. You can get rat mesh btw, supposed to be rat chew proof. I think i might invest in some to go over the entirety of the greenhouse and sandwich the plastic cover between the cattle paneling and the rat mesh. might have less risk of the wind affecting the cover too as a bonus...hmmmm.

Yeah the cayenne pepper seems to be working pretty well for me, but if I was starting over I’d definitely do hardware cloth!

@@thecottagepeach ahh I feel silly, I've only heard of it being called rat mesh, I didn't realise that's the same stuff 🙈.
