Buen Vivir: Alternative Visions to Development (Rethinking Economics Festival 2020)

A session from the second day of the Rethinking Economics Festival 2020.
In this webinar, Miriam Lang (Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Ecuador) and Leire Iriarte (Founder, El Buen Vivir) explore what role Buen Vivir can play in improving vital social and ecological outcomes around the world.
Buen Vivir (Good Living) is more than an economic term, it is a broad philosophy with roots in indigenous cultures in Latin America. It has been described as a notion of wellbeing, creating harmony between social and ecological systems Buen Vivir challenges classical views of development.
Buen Vivir challenges the commodification of nature through ecosystem services and the classification of natural capital. Many municipalities and even some nations are beginning to incorporate the principles of Buen Vivir in their institutions and goals. This session will explore what role Buen Vivir can play in improving vital social and ecological outcomes around the world.
