This heartwarming video was captured by our partners, YIARI in September last year.
It’s clips like these that remind us just how similar orangutans are to humans. We share 97% of our DNA with orangutans, as well as a curiosity for the world around us. Just like us, orangutans feel a range of emotions, learn by imitation, and can even use tools!
Last month, through the combined efforts of the BKSDA, TNBBBR, and with YIARI's support, Budi was successfully released into a protected national park where he can freely explore and satisfy his natural curiosity. Budi!! I am so happy for this young fella. The video of his rescue as a baby was so heartbreaking. I followed his progress and watched him grow and learn how to be an orangutan. He looks a little underwhelmed but if he could speak he would say to his rescuers and caretakers how grateful he is for all they've done. Good luck Budi!

Awesome to see Budi all grown up, and thriving. He was so tiny, frail, and in so much pain, when he was brought to the sanctuary. ❤
What a champion! What a warrior!
It's amazing how he started off so terrified as a baby and look at him now. Bless💚

Wow i can't believe that's budi, time flies he looks so relaxed, thank god for all the caring people that look out for our brothers, the ones who have no voice.
I hope he doesn’t remember his pain when he was first rescued as a baby 😢….. the BOSF have done a truly magnificent job of nurturing him and bringing him back from the brink Thank you 🙏🏻 all for everything you’ve done and for making sure we don’t loose this beautiful intelligent species to the stupidity and greed of mankind….. they are more worthy of a place on this earth 🌍 than some humans 💜
