So sick of these retired 35 year old independently wealthy jokers with some horse manure 80k$ rig with all the luxurious crap. Good job! I wanna see more adventures with this old rig. See how far it'll go and post it!

The 4.3 V6 is rugged, reliable, dependable engine, and the later Vortec headed version makes respectable power. I've ran a couple of them to over 300,000 miles. Nice baby Blazer!

I just bought my 3rd. #1 was a 1995 LT 4DR 2WD and I got 268K+ out of her before she ruptured a fuel line and was deemed too expensive to repair. #2 Is a 2003 LT 4DR 4WD and currently has 285K+ and needs an entire new front end and body mounts but again, value for $$. #3 I just brought home. She is a 2002 LS 4DR 4WD and she has 127K on the odometer. I can't wait to see how she shakes out. I wish Chevy still made these. Everyone though me nuts to buy a 20 year old car but I love them and nothing on the market comes close. I see you have a hatchback, I prefer the Tailgate myself and those are very hard to find. I'm not an overlander, but I do drive 200 to 400 miles every time I go out I cover lots of miles and although this is not the most fuel-efficient car in the world, if you drive it sanely, you will get good fuel mileage around 20 mpg. The seats in back fold down completely FLAT making the cargo area perfect like the bed of a truck. I work out of mine, camp out of mine, transport dogs for rescue in mine and move gear that is too big to fit in any car. I love them. Bring back S-10 Blazer! Thanks for your video and highlighting your Blazer. Currently this video is 4 years old. Any recent news on your Blazer? Still runnning? Miles?

I have to say that I love these Blazers. I currently own 3 of them. I'm in the process of building two of them for overlanding while keeping the other one as a daily. The 4.3 liter engine is a bulletproof engine if you keep up on all of the maintenance.

This video may be old but I am so happy to have found it! Overlanding doesn't have to be an expensive activity and I have taken my old beater sedan further than a lot of sane people with built rigs would go. Haha. It's all about having fun and getting yourself unstuck every now and then.

Years ago I owned a 2 door S10 Blazer4X4 with a 4.3 Liter V6 and used it to travel and camp across CA, NV, AX, and UT on trails and on the highways. It was a solid platform for two people to enjoy long camping trips in a surprisingly capable SUV. The only concern I have about owning one today is the crashworthiness of this platform compared to a modern Toyota. All in all wonderful memories and I wish you the best.

Coil springs may be superior but when doing a budget build, leaf springs in the rear mean that you can do half your lift for free (or very cheap). Just swap the axle down below the leaf springs, swap the shackles from one side to the other and you've got a decent lift in the rear. You might need a longer stabilizer but a good measurement and a trip to the junkyard can take car of that pretty cheap. That torsion bar front suspension, on the other hand...

Have some nice A/T tires on it now. Would like to add a 2 inch body lift with some 31 inch tires in the future. I think I will try it like it is now and see if I enjoy the overlanding experience. Thanks for reminding me I don't need an expensive rig to enjoy the outdoors.

Just a observation you need to replace the rear differential cover gasket its gotta small leak. You don't wanna have rear end failure that limited slip diff wont tolerate being under lubricated. Also you can add coil over rear shocks and airbags on the rear.

Good video on a practical rig! If you don't mind, we've had several of these (1986, 1994, 2000, and a 2008 Trailblazer) and I'd like to offer you some tips. -The one thing we couldn't repair ourselves was a starter swap on the 1994. I couldn't get it out and had to take it to a shop to get them to lift the engine. It only needs a tiny bit more room, I'm not sure they even unbolted it. -Watch your front suspension and steering components for wear. I'd also keep an eye on the actual 4wd selector. -I never got above 20-22mpg with heavy highway usage. It's a powerful enough engine for that size vehicle but it's a little bit of a guzzler. -If you have your gear and everything in it, I'd suggest an alarm of some sort. -Don't mess around with any IFS lift. The 2" Superlifts and the like aren't worth the hassle and the taller lifts have the torsion bar drop and don't improve your capabilities beyond fitting slightly bigger tires. 30's with as needed trimming and a rear locker will likely do you just fine. If you want to go further, look into solid axle swaps; if you can find a wrecked Jeep Rubicon those axles would be a perfect fit- driver side differential, correct width, 4.10 gears and dual lockers. There are some -sweet- Jeep axle swapped Blazers online. Rear leaf springs (with a swap to over the axle) are so much simpler than coil springs so I'd stick with those. They also help with stability. A locker and perhaps some axle upgrades for that 10 bolt can really up your capabilities with everything else stock. I might also suggest taking a welding class or two (in the summer?) so you can experiment with bumpers and side protection. Good luck! When you graduate and get a good job, if this thing is in decent enough condition you might consider keeping it as a dedicated travel/mild off-road rig. There's a pretty big culture around modding them.

Nice video and nice rig! I have a 02 Suburban that I usually travel in but now want to start using my 98 4x4 Blazer due to the cost of fuel. Just performed a valve job and all the maintenance on her so It's ready! I like your roof basket, is that custom or can I purchase that? I want the same setup for the roof, that looks like a ton of storage space with those lockers up top, any Ideas for securing those from all the thieving a-holes out there? I usually keep my mountain bike upright in the back of Suburban and still have room to sleep next to it but can only lay it down in the Blazer or get a hitch rack for it so not sure what to do there. I wanna hit the road come Sept so let me know about the rack and if you have any suggestions for me. Thanks! Jimmy

When I owned my blazer, the 4wd didn’t work a lot of the time and I still explored thousands of miles of forest roads with no problem at all. If you’re going to go a true off road trail, as opposed to maintained forest roads, you might struggle, but for camping and explore forest land, 2wd and some decent clearance is just fine.

@@TheFraziers I own a 06 lifted fwd highlander with 265/70/16 bfg km3 mud tires. traction control is really good on most unelivated roads. You get traction on both sides of the wheels... 80% of the time. I rely on traction control because I don't have an lsd. In snow and mud Its kind of useful depending how deep it is... Times when traction control can't take you any further because of the abs slowing you down. I'd back up and then turn off the traction control and rely on momentum till I feel like the traction control works well on the road again.
